Course Home Page Options
Course Activity Stream:
Lets users see the most recent activity and interactions for this course.
It is very similar to the recent activity stream in the Dashboard but only
shows content for the specific course.
Pages Front Page:
Allows instructors to design the course homepage and include links,
images, or rich media. Students will be able to interact with the content
added to this page.
Course Modules:
Organizes the course into modules, or sections. Modules helps outline
the course and shows the assignments or tasks required throughout the
course.
Assignments List:
Shows the list of assignments for the course with upcoming and recent
assignments at the top of the page. Users can click the link of the
assignment to view more details.
Syllabus:
May include a description of course expectations or introduce the
course with links, images, or other content. The Syllabus also
automatically populates a calendar view of all assignments and course
events as they are added or modified in the course.

Student View

1. In Course Navigation, select Settings.
2. In the sidebar on the right, select Student View.
3. Once activated, a box appears around your screen as an indication
that you are in student mode.
4. Select Reset Student to clear the history.
5. Select Leave Student View when finished.

Common Canvas Terminology
Activity Stream Displays all recent activity in Canvas. There are two types of Activity Streams - Global and Course.
Announcements Communication tool that allows instructors to post announcements for all users in a course.
Assignments Assessment activities created by the instructor including Assignments, Discussions, and Quizzes.
Calendar Communication tool that shows users all events and assignments in their courses and groups.
Canvas Community External resource that includes documentation/videos, feature ideas, community groups, and more.
Chat Provides synchronous video, audio, and text communication between students enrolled in a course.
Conversations Messaging tool to communicate with a course, a group, or an individual student.
Course Statistics Instructor tool that summarizes overall student participation in the course.
Dashboard Default landing page and provides an overview of all Canvas activity for a user.
Discussions Forum designed to facilitate informal communication between students in a course.
Files File repository for each user, group, and course. Files can be public or private
Grades Stores information about student progress in Canvas.
Groups Groups can be created for students or by students to enable efficient collaboration.
Modules Group course content and assignments into structured units.
Notifications Allow users to determine where and when they will be notified about activity in Canvas.
Outcomes Description of skills, understandings, and attitudes learners will develop during a course or program.
Pages Comprises all pages created in a course. A page allows instructors to create content for a course.
People Displays all users enrolled in a course.
Quizzes Displays all quiz assessment types in a course.
Rich Content Editor Word processor that supports instructors to create content within specific Canvas areas.
Rubrics Assessment tool for communicating expectations of quality.
Settings Customize navigation, add users, import content, and link to external tools.
SpeedGrader Grade assignments using point scale or rubrics. Leave text or audio/video feedback for students.
Student View Tool used by instructors to see how their course appears to students.
Syllabus Add customized course info above an automatically aggregated list of assignments and events.
