! Regional Centre's of Expertise on ESD (RCEs)
were introduced as a multistakeholder
initiative of learning for change, with
higher education and school communities as
the lead actors

4. What has been the issue?
1. RCE was introduced in a personalized manner
2. University leaders have not grasped its origin
and importance
3. Faculty members lack of interest – need for
advocacy/awareness drive
4. Strategies to penetrate government relevant
agencies to buy in are slow/stagnating

5. What has been the issue Cont’d?
! Integration of analysis and planning between national,
subnational, regional levels of government and
international processes
! The current state of practice in Africa with
respect to integrated planning and analysis
through vertical alignment and partnerships shows
very limited good examples in the region.
! National, regional and international coordination
activities in crosscutting sectors is limited

6. Possibilities to continue engaging?
! Re-introduce RCE to university/community
leaders
! Adopt a school or a community based
organization
! Conduct project based advocacy
