Mangrove provides foods, nesting and
nursery areas for many animals which
includes: 220 fish species, 24 reptile and
amphibian species, 18 mammal species,
181 bird species
Acting as wave breaks that stop coastal
erosion and protect the shoreline from
tsunamis and hurricanes.
Removes mangroves and many of these
species might driven to extinction,
invariable affecting us as source of food
and water.
MANGROVE: Are various kind of trees up to
medium height and shrubs that grow in
saline coastal sediment habitats

Extremely important for supporting the
fisheries industry which generates high
amount of revenue
Rich source of timber which can be
harvested on sustainable basis and
harvesting of mangrove plants for a
wide range of medicinal uses
Mangrove retain, concentrate, and
recycle nutrients

in extending sustainability
projects with communities:
We develop the ESD for a sustainable
rehabilitation program of mangrove forests at
Merbok Mangrove Forest Reserve, Kedah
-The forest is made up of 18 compartment with
total area of 4,176 ha,-Kedah Forestry Department
Aims to develop mangrove restoration sites
& establish a centre for education and
research

Wisdom of Mangrove
This program provides
communities with collaboration
opportunities by sharing and
exchanging ideas on education
on the mangrove ecosystem.
Mangrove reforestation
activities as an educational tool
for the local school children,
universities and the public to
learn about mangrove
ecosystem and conservation.
