5. Chitral (Urdu: Chitral,
Khowar: Chetrar) is the
capital of Chitral District,
situated on the north
western part of
KPK.Having total area of
about 14850 kmsquare.

It also served as the capital of
the former princely state of
Chitral until 1969. The town is
at the foot of Tirich Mir, (The
highest peak of the Hindu
Kush).

5 lac.

The people of Chitral wear simple dress
consisting of Shirt, trousers during summer
season.

Girwan Bazuri (Traditional women dress)

14. Pandir (Cheese)
Pandir Muzhi : Cheese and crushed walnuts kernel
sandwiched between the layers of wheat dough and
cooked in a mini size steel oven in low heat.
Zholai: Same as Pandir Muzhi but only crushed
walnuts are used.
Pushur Tiki: Pieces of fatrich mutton sandwiched
between the layer of wheat dough and cooked in
ashes after cover it with frying pan.
Kali: A variety of cour prepared from minced meat,
wheat flour and number of delectable local spices.
Kawirogh: Flowers of local wild plant are collected
and processed in the heat of sun dried which is then
cooked with meat without any other seasoning but
salt. It is said to remedy for many diseases.
Lazhek: Fat rich mutton is cooked formely in large
clay pots with crushed wheat grain, Nutrious,
delicious and Wholesome (Favourable to health)
Chaklapostak: make up of dry fruits
Shoshp: a traditional halwa

15. Majority of festive are related to agricultural
calendar and animal husbandry which shows the
importance of agriculture
and livestock in the lives of the local community.

16. Shandoor Polo Festival
• This is celebrated in summer annually. Polo matches are oraganised
between the polo teams of chitral and gilgit..height 12000
• Jashn-e-Broghil
• Celebrated in summer in Broghil which is the last village of Chitral
District. Buzz Kashi is played in this festival.. height about 13000 ft
above level.
• Jashn-e-Qaqlasht;
• It is annualy celebrated in spring season.height 6000 ft above sea level

23. The Kalash are often referred to as 'polytheist',
most Kalash claim that they are monotheist,
worshiping one creator god, ‘Dezau‘.
They are also known as
“The Black Fakirs”.

24. The Kalash People celebrate three main
festivals in year.
JOSHI celebrated in May to welcome the
spring.
Uchaw: celebrated in august to ensure good
crops and wheat.
Chaumos: Observed in December for more
than two weeks, it is the grand festival and
celebrated to welcome the new year.

25. The Kalash people are famous for their festivals.
There are much dancing, Singing and Music. Drum is the
only instrument
They use during their festivals.

26. Kalash people have a unique and colorful dress that serves as the most
obvious symbol of identity for the Kalash community,
Their women usually wear long black robes, often embroidered with
cowrie shells. For this reason, they are
known in Chitral as
“The Black Kafirs”
