Kelsey Pennington - Visual Pedagogy Project: Science/Art Integration

  • 1. Science/Art Integration Kelsey Pennington
  • 2. Process Researched Art and Content Integration Planned a lesson based on Indiana content standards Created a sample for use in the classroom
  • 3. Research Marshall: Depiction-Having students depict a subject from observation. Allows students to see how artists observe and record the world around them. Making connections across subjects enhances learning. –Marshall Goldburg Art allows for the exploration of a subject in a deep, meaningful way. Students learn about, with, and through the arts.
  • 4. Research Smith Focuses on drawing, but can be applied to other art forms Observation-learning to look Composition-placement of objects Oreck: Art allows students to explore and make discoveries. Art should be a part of every subject, not something separate.
  • 5. Models Use of models Integration of art and science Compare and contrast object and model Use of models to develop learning
  • 6. Standards 1.6.1 Observe and describe that models, such as toys, are like the real things in some ways but different in others. 2.1.5 Demonstrate the ability to work with a team but still reach and communicate one’s own conclusions about findings. 2.1.7 Recognize and describe ways that some materials — such as recycled paper, cans, and plastic jugs — can be used over again. 2.6.2 Observe and explain that models may not be the same size, may be missing some details, or may not be able to do all of the same things as the real things. 3.6.3 Explain how a model of something is different from the real thing but can be used to learn something about the real thing.
