Pakistan’s problems are its opportunities! Most people in the West believe that Pakistan is an unstable country
on the verge of imminent collapse or an explosion of violence. It is consistently portrayed—by politicians,
policymakers, and the media—as the most volatile and dysfunctional state in the world.
And yet, Pakistan is included on Goldman Sachs’ list of the next eleven (N-11) most important emerging
markets. Although it has (along with Nigeria and Bangladesh) “broad and systematic issues across a range of
areas” that will prevent it from fully delivering on its growth potential, the country’s large population (it
currently has 180 million people) assures its inclusion. Indeed, within a generation, Pakistan will have the
fourth largest number of people in the world, behind only India, China, and the United States, and be a market
too significant to ignore.
The population growth rate of Pakistan is above those of western developed economies, which indicates a
greater consumer market potential over the medium term. Large and further-growing populations show a
bigger potential pool of consumers for businesses to target.

At the risk of sounding clichéd, Pakistan’s greatest asset is its people. The population is proportionately one of
the youngest in the world. The youth predominately feel passionate about their country and are determined

Mr. Atiq-ur-Rehman is an environment transformer & innovator,
believing strongly in out-of-the-box thinking and value innovation
strategies. He is a creative thought leader in business management and
marketing. His over 20 years of experience in Pakistan consists of
conceptualizing, founding leading and turning around organizations
including Pakistan’s first Internet Company, Pakistan No. 1 Yellow
pages, and Pakistan No. 1 event organizers through which he has led
start-up and launched E-Commerce & Web through Direct and
Database Marketing.
He was instrumental in initiating IT Policy for Pakistan. He was a select
member of Sindh Information Technology Board and an active Member
of Pakistan Software Houses Society.
He has led Start-up and Managed Pakistan’s largest trade events and Conferences in IT, Engineering, Health,
Building, Agriculture and thus brought Dot Com events and culture in Pakistan. All these activities made Karachi
city come back as a hub of activities and made the nation proud.
As a change manager and business transformer, Mr. Atiq pioneered the Quality Certification and Technology

“Bridging the Gap” initiatives will provide competencies to regional for-profits and not-for-profits to establish sound
