Dance movement therapy uses movement and dance to address emotional, cognitive, physical, and social needs. It helps individuals express themselves nonverbally and release suppressed feelings. This allows negative feelings to be released rather than stored in the body, bringing a sense of healing. The therapy can be used preventatively or for destressing, and in group settings helps with opening up, sharing, understanding others, and building confidence. It provides a safe and nonjudgmental space for individuals to move in their own unique ways. The document focuses on using dance movement therapy to help women, who often neglect their own needs while caring for their families, restore self-esteem and engage in simple self-care activities.
3. What is DMT is all about
Dance Movement Therapy or DMT as it is widely known as ,
is all about movement of our body according to our
thinking. Body and Mind are inseparable & Interconnected.
Our body translates what our mind says i.e. our emotions are
expressed through our body movements. So this therapy works
as healing when we are sad or in sorrow or in any state of
emotion and through our facilitation we help in creating your
own movements.
Once the suppressed feeling is let out, no negative feelings
are stored within us.
This state of mind brings about healing.
4. DMT is a HEALING ART
Therapy is not necessarily for people who are sick or
undergone trauma.
It can be used as a preventive measure and for
De- stressing too.
As a group therapy DMT helps in opening up,
sharing, understanding each other.
The gain is self improvement ,gaining confidence and
becoming more social.
5. NON VERBAL
Each individual has a Rhythm of own and moves in
one's own unique way.
So as a group there is a variety of creative
movements complementing each other. There is
mutual trust also. Basically the space Is safe and
non judgmental.
Most importantly every one is not able to verbalize their
emotions or what they are going through
6. BACK GROUND WHY DMT FOR
WOMEN
Now coming to today's special session on
the occasion of "International Women's
Day", we shall concentrate specially on
healing for women.
Women as we all know are the pillar of
a family. Whether in city or in villages
they take up on themselves of household,
go out and work ( whether field or offices)
take care of children, manage expenses
etc etc.
7. What ails women
Actually women's routine is endless to the extent
that she neglect self. A woman should understand
unless she take care of herself and keep fit
physically and mentally, one cannot take good
care of family.
Self care is an important aspect for anyone
especially for women.
They keep slogging and completely forget as a pillar of
family they should be very strong.
8. Reason behind low self esteem
Unfulfilled ambitions, suppressed feelings, low
self esteem, not taking good care of self all takes
its toll. Some face depression, some lose
interest in anything, fed up of monotony and
various phases of life ( post delivery moods)
creates complications and they are never
attended to. Generally unless there is a severity
of illness physical or mental is seen not taken
seriously. Neglected as mood swings. There is
no stigma if you see a counsellor, Psychiatrist or
a Therapist.
9. SELF CARE
What is exactly self care? women has been
for ages been told, you should keep self last,
take care of family and so on. In the
process, they have no self value or take out
time for self.
So firstly self importance and esteem is to be
restored.
10. IMPORTANCE OF SELF CARE
Healthy selfishness is a way of thinking and
acting in which there is a deep appreciation
and concern for yourself. It includes a
willingness to respect your own feelings,
desires, and needs as well as to trust your
knowledge, ability, and experience. … In a
practical sense, it means doing such things as
resting when you’re tired or asking for
emotional support without apology.

12. Working women’s predicamnet
• Minimizing visibility in order to create
work/life balance, though, came at the cost of
making big career moves for some women.
• For example, one woman said she scaled back
her ambitions at work when one of her
children was diagnosed with a medical
condition that required more adult
supervision. She changed from an upper-level
role to a less stressful and less visible job.
13. Real reason as per Research
why women avoid spotlight
“Women in our study chose this strategy from
a limited set of options,” said Fielding-Singh.
“Because there was no clear path to having it
all, many chose to prioritize authenticity and
conflict reduction at work and home.”

15. Activities women can do with
little time and in small groups
• One need not go to a dance class or any class
spending money. Just get together a few women
Do simple movements with hands, fingers for a
start.
• Making faces is a good idea for facial movements.
• Expressions of emotions.
• However for a proper healing session one needs a
facilitator to take through from start to end in a
proper way.
