1. Questionnaire Results
2 females and 3 males between the ages of 17 and 21 and one below the age of
17 received the answers to my questionnaire.
2. My answers for Question 3 have revealed that the psychological thriller is
popular, as all have said they liked it. Several have commented on the level of
excitement in thriller films which means I should aim to create a fast paced
trailer that features a lot of tension in order to keep the audience on the edge of
their seat.
When asked what psychological thrillers were popular a number of films were
mentioned several times, these particularly include Shutter Island and Fight
Club. Both of these films contain dark themes, a strong narrative and plot twists
involving the mind and people’s mental state. From this, we will aim to
incorporate similar themes and ideas in the trailer for our own film.
3. When asked what they would expect to see in a psychological thriller trailer, the
most popular response was on-screen text which will give us the opportunity to
reveal element of the backstory and the struggle that the protagonist will face.
Other options in high demand was key information about the film such as the
release date etc. and reviews of the film which will give us more opportunity to
promote the film and encourage the audience to watch the full movie. They
would also like to see the general outline of the story in the film, which means we
should establish clearly what the film is about in the trailer.
4. When asked about the typical target audience for psychological thrillers the age
range varied from teenagers to adults although most answers said it will appeal
to males over females.
5. Most people associated the colours black and red with psychological thrillers,
which would successfully represent the dark and frightening themes brought up
in the genre. Most people also acknowledged the darkness in the genre and the
evil nature of characters, which means these, should be incorporated into our
trailer.
When asked for feedback about this poster, the answers were 100% positive
which suggests it would be a good idea to base the design of our ancillary
products in a similar style to this.
