Participants Excited About Professionalizing Football in Grenada Following
CONCACAF Match Commissioners Workshop
20th
February, 2017-St. George’s-
Participants of the GFA/CONCACAF Match Commissioners Course are excited
about the opportunities to professionalize and raise the standards of organization of
football matches in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The two day
workshop (February 18th and 19th) was attended by a diverse cross section of
participants including football tournament organizers, representatives from football
clubs, and Executive Members and staff of the Grenada Football Association.
CONCACAF Instructor Mario Monterrosa was thorough in his presentations which
covered: the profile, deportment and roles and duties of a match commissioner,
match preparation, field inspection, pre-match protocol, match reports and match
coordination meetings. Monterrosa urged the local FA and participants to begin
gradually implementing what they learnt so that implementation becomes easier.
He said, “I look forward to seeing you all becoming match commissioners in your
country, in the region and for CONCACAF.”
The GFA was happy to have three participants from Carriacou. They are Bobby
Jacobs, Klint Alexander and Devon Matherson. Following the workshop, Jacobs
was excited about moving to professionalize the league played in Carriacou. He
said quote, “Match Commissioners are something that’s needed in football in
Carriacou. It would help get the teams and football to a higher standard.”
Sylvan Chan is a member of the production team for the Waggy T Super Knockout
Tournament and he said, “I think this was a wonderful opportunity given to us as
the production team of the Waggy T Super Knockout to assist in enhancing the
quality of the game. This workshop has given us the drive to get things as perfect as
possible.”
Max Toussaint is one of Grenada’s advanced match commissioners and he says, “I
think the course was a great thing for the potential match commissioners. After
receiving this knowledge it shows us where we can be; that we can lift our
standards in terms of implementing the rules of the GFA and impressing on persons
that they should always aim for higher standards.”
General Secretary Ken-Martin Whiteman said he believes that the workshop met its
objectives when it comes to quality of delivery of the instructor, participation and
content. He further stated, “This is part of the thrust to improve the game of
football and match commissioners have a vital role to play in terms of ensuring the
quality of our games.” More than 25 participants received certificates of
participation at the end of the workshop.
