in an email.
Prerequisites: You’ll also need an Internet connection.
Basic computer knowledge is helpful.

Before Shooting a Photo
1. Make sure a memory card is inserted.
2. Make sure there is adequate room available on the memory card to take photos.
3. Make sure your batteries are charged. Having extra batteries or a charger is a good idea.

Taking a Photo
1. Turn on the digital camera. For most digital cameras the on/off switch is located on the top of the camera.
2. Make sure the camera is in “picture mode”. This is usually indicated by a little camera icon.
3. While keeping hands and arms steady, press the Shutter button down half-way to allow any automatic
features (zoom or flash) to adjust, then push the Shutter button down completely to take your photo.

Reviewing Photos
1. Press the Display button (small triangle, like a “play” button) to review your photos.
2. Delete any photos you don’t want to save.

Connecting Your Memory Card to Your Computer
You can connect your memory card to your computer using one of these methods:
1. Connect the camera to the computer using a USB cable, or
2. Remove the memory card from the camera and insert it directly into the computer’s memory card reader.

If the memory card requires a USB attachment, connect the card to the attachment and insert it directly into
the computer’s USB drive. When the computer recognizes the memory card, a window will open requesting
further action. This is where photos can be imported, viewed, or opened in the program of your choice.
Save Photos Onto Your Computer
The computer may automatically create a dated folder in My Pictures folder and import the photos into it.
Afterwards, the computer may also ask if you want to delete the photos from the memory card. Deleting
photos from the memory card creates space for more pictures; however, be sure the photos have been
imported to the computer before deleting them.

1. Click the Start Menu.
2. Click Computer.
3. Click the drive where the memory card is located (usually marked Removable in the drive name).
4. Select the photos from the memory card window and copy them.
5. Click on the Drive and folders to navigate where you want your pictures.
6. Paste your pictures. If you copy and paste, the pictures will be in both locations. If cut and paste is used,
the photos will only be in Pictures folder.

Emailing Photos from Gmail™ Account
1. Open your Gmail™ account at http://www.gmail.com. You will need a user name and password to do this.
2. Click the Compose Mail link.
3. Click the Attach a file link.
4. Click the Browse button and find the image to attach.
5. Click OK.
6. Enter the email address of the recipient. Enter a subject. Enter text in the body of the email. Type in your
name and contact information at the bottom.
7. Click Send.
Emailing Photos from Outlook®
1. Open Microsoft Outlook®.
2. Compose a new e-mail by clicking on the New icon in the top left portion of the window.
3. In the e-mail, click on the Attach File icon (in some versions it will appear as a small paperclip), or click
on Insert at the top of the window and click Attach File.
4. Browse to the location that contains the image and double-click the image to insert it.
5. Enter the email address of the recipient. Type in a subject line. Enter text in the body of the email. Include
    your name and contact information.
6. Click Send.

Creating a Zip File (compressed file)
1. Click the photo(s) you want to zip and email. (To select more than one picture, hold down the keyboard
Ctrl key and click on each file until they are all selected.)
2. Right click on one of the selected files. Click Send to Compressed (zipped) folder. Rename the folder.
3. When choosing a file to email, click the new zipped folder.
Using a Zipped File
1. If you receive an email with a zipped file as an attachment, double click on the attachment.
2. Save the file when prompted, and note its location.
3. Navigate to the zipped file and double click on it. This will open up your zip window.
4. Choose “Extract to”. This will open up a window to chose where to extract to. It’s similar to a Save As
window. The zipped file can be deleted after extracting the files from it.

Opening an Email With Photo Attachment
1. When you receive an email with an attachment, double click on the attachment to open it.
2. Once the file has been opened, save it onto the computer. If the original email message is not needed, it
    can be deleted.

Tips & Reminders
It is wise to have two electronic copies of your photos and keep them in two different locations. (One copy on
the computer and one copy on an external device)

Get out there and Shoot, Shoot, Shoot! Don’t be afraid to try different angles, different lighting, different
camera settings. There’s no cost in taking a few extra photos and you’ll be amazed at what you will discover
when you get back to your computer.
