SHORT and Sweet.
We like to get information at a glance. Keep your tweets below
100 characters. This makes it easier to read and share and
more likely to be retweeted.
Use NUMBERS.
Whenever it is relevant, use numbers. Tweets with numbers get
more retweets! Also, using “10” instead of “ten” makes it easier
to read and uses less characters.
Use PHOTOS.
Did you know you can upload up to 4 photos in one tweet? Use
this to your advantage! Visual content grabs attention and gets
more retweets.
Use VIDEOS.
Just like photos, videos get more retweets. Get a Twitter video
app, use Vine, or even share YouTube videos to take your content
to the next level.
Use LINKS.
Share webpages. Twitter automatically alters any size link to
22-23 characters. It is beneficial to use link-shortening sites.
They look cleaner and allow you to track link clicks.
EXCLAIM your Enthusiasm!
Use exclamation points! Enthusiastic tweets get more retweets!
Just like with Caps Lock, use exclamation points wisely!
Use HASHTAGS.
Using hashtags lets you gain exposure and engage with more
users. Do not overload your tweet with hashtags, that
makes your tweet difficult to read.
Not all HASHTAGS are Created Equal.
Reseach your hashtag. Ensure it is appropriate for your tweet and
your audience. Try a tool like Topsy to check out how often it is
used and the general sentiment of the tweets using the hashtag.
ASK for a Retweet.
Make a specific request asking users for a retweet. Including a
call-to-action gains more retweets and exposes your tweets to
more users. You can use “Please Retweet” or even “Pls RT”.
Promote your Twitter on your WEBSITE.
Where’s a better place to promote your Twitter account than on
your website? Place a retweet and follow button on your website
to make it easy for visitors to follow and share your content.
MENTION .@username in a public reply.
Mentions help you gain exposure and get retweets. Place a “.”
before “@” at the beginning of a tweet to create a public reply.
Example: ".@TourbillonNews Thanks for the Twitter Guide!"
Check the CLOCK.
Play around with when you tweet and track your engagement.
Figure out when your followers are most active and tweet then!
Use a free tool like Tweriod (www.tweriod.com) to figure this out.
Focus on POP CULTURE.
Utilize trending events, topics, and hashtags to gain exposure.
Popular content gets more retweets. Beware: always research
the trend to ensure you understand it before you tweet about it.
Express your GRATITUDE.
People appreciate being appreciated. Send a personalized
“thank you” tweet when a user retweets or mentions you.
Build RELATIONSHIPS.
Twitter is more than sharing content. People want to know they’re
being heard. Interact with users. Respond to messages. Building
relationships helps gain and keep followers. It creates loyalty.
Use CAPS LOCK.
Twitter does not allow users to bolden or italicize words, so use
Caps Lock to emphasize key words. Use it sparingly, or IT WILL
SOUND LIKE YELLING!
Twitter is your KINGDOM.
Rule the Twitterverse with EPIC content related to your
organization and your brand. Keep reading to discover how to
deliver content that will increase and engage your followers.
Retweet for RETWEET.
Sharing only your content can get boring and seems selfish.
Spruce it up by retweeting others' relevant tweets. Many users
will appreciate the retweet and return the favor.
