LECTURE CUM DEMONSTRATION
METHOD
• Lecture cum demonstration method includes the
merit of the lecture method as well as
demonstration method
• The teacher performs the experiment in the class
with the active participation of student .Thus the
student observes the experiment help in taking
down readings as well as assist in setting up of
apparatus etc..
• It is a best method when demonstrations are well
planned by a skillful teacher.
• Here good demonstrators act as good communication
media
• By this method power of observation and reasoning
are also exercised.so the important principle on this
method works is truth is what works
• It is not limited to material objects.it involves the
observation of a skill,a process,phenomenon,and
functioning of a system or a working model.effect of
observation is enhanced by explanation provided.
• A lecture can combain demonstration with
his lecture,so that students through the
observation along with explanation given in
the beginning can comprehend the theme
of the lecture effectively.
• The strategy of using both lecture and
demonstration method is known as lecture
cum demonstration method
• It is the modified form of lecture method
DEMONSTRATION METHOD
• Demonstration is an useful instructional
method employed in teaching.
• It means showing something is to be done
or not to be done.
• Here the role of the student is to observe
and record the information and skill
• It provide clarity to details
• This method is mainly followed by science
teacher
CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD
DEMONSTRATION
• All pupil should be able to observe the
demonstration
• Apparatus,specimen,models etc.. used
should be large enough to see
• Attention must be given to the adequate
lightning of the demonstration table
• Apparatus should be arranged in the proper
order
• Involve students in the demonstration
• Make sure that all materials are nearby
when demonstration begins
• Demonstrated item should be removed
from the vicinity of the pupil when its use is
over
• Prior to demonstration the teacher should
conduct a rehearsal.
• Aids like charts,models,pictures should be
used
• Questions should be ask to students this
will stimulate thinking
• Students should be allowed to come on to
the table
• Demonstration table should be at good
height
• A blackboard behind the table will help to
summarize thebrelated principles and
concepts
COMMON ERRORS IN GOOD
DEMONSTRATION
• the apparatus may not be ready for use
• Language used may be difficult
• The teacher may not be able to link
demonstration with subject matter
• Blackboard may not be properly used
• Teacher may not be able to fix student
attention
• Insufficient time to record data
MERITS
• Least expensive
• Time saving students see the same operation and
technique
• Verbal instructions are concretised for the
students
• This can be used for all type of students
• It improves the observation skill of students
• It is a psychological method and students take
active interest in teaching learning process
LIMITATIONS
• It assumes that all students see same facts but it
does not mean they follow it
• Students are devoid of doing practical which
snatches them from use of laboratory work
• It fails to develop laboratory skills in student
• It provides no scope for learning by doing for the
student as students are only observing the teacher
performing
STEPS NEEDED TO CONDUCT A LECTURE CUM
DEMONSTRATION LESSON
1.PLANNING AND PREPARATION
Great care should be taken by the teacher
while preparing demonstration .it should contain
a. Subject matter
b. Questions to be asked
C. Apparatus required for the experiment
2. INTRODUCTION OF THE LESSON
The lesson should start with a
motivation. It is useful to introduce the lesson in a
problematic way make student's realise the
importance of the topic
3. PRESENTATION
It is very important. A teacher should
present lesson in a interesting manner.Questions
should be arranged as their answers should
complete the taught unit
5. BLACKBOARD SUMMARY
important results and principles should
be written at the blackboard.it is also used for
drawing sketches and diagram.
6.SUPERVISION
Students are asked to take notes of
complete demonstration.this helps for
learning.teacher should raise the interest among
students.

LECTURE CUM DEMONSTRATION METHOD • Lecture cum demonstration method includes the merit of the lecture method as well as demonstration method • The teacher performs the experiment in the class with the active participation of student .Thus the student observes the experiment help in taking down readings as well as assist in setting up of apparatus etc.. • It is a best method when demonstrations are well planned by a skillful teacher.
  • 3. • Here good demonstrators act as good communication media • By this method power of observation and reasoning are also exercised.so the important principle on this method works is truth is what works • It is not limited to material objects.it involves the observation of a skill,a process,phenomenon,and functioning of a system or a working model.effect of observation is enhanced by explanation provided.
  • 4. • A lecture can combain demonstration with his lecture,so that students through the observation along with explanation given in the beginning can comprehend the theme of the lecture effectively. • The strategy of using both lecture and demonstration method is known as lecture cum demonstration method • It is the modified form of lecture method

DEMONSTRATION METHOD • Demonstration is an useful instructional method employed in teaching. • It means showing something is to be done or not to be done. • Here the role of the student is to observe and record the information and skill • It provide clarity to details • This method is mainly followed by science teacher
  • 6. CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD DEMONSTRATION • All pupil should be able to observe the demonstration • Apparatus,specimen,models etc.. used should be large enough to see • Attention must be given to the adequate lightning of the demonstration table • Apparatus should be arranged in the proper order • Involve students in the demonstration
  • 7. • Make sure that all materials are nearby when demonstration begins • Demonstrated item should be removed from the vicinity of the pupil when its use is over • Prior to demonstration the teacher should conduct a rehearsal. • Aids like charts,models,pictures should be used
  • 8. • Questions should be ask to students this will stimulate thinking • Students should be allowed to come on to the table • Demonstration table should be at good height • A blackboard behind the table will help to summarize thebrelated principles and concepts
  • 9. COMMON ERRORS IN GOOD DEMONSTRATION • the apparatus may not be ready for use • Language used may be difficult • The teacher may not be able to link demonstration with subject matter • Blackboard may not be properly used • Teacher may not be able to fix student attention • Insufficient time to record data
  • 10. MERITS • Least expensive • Time saving students see the same operation and technique • Verbal instructions are concretised for the students • This can be used for all type of students • It improves the observation skill of students • It is a psychological method and students take active interest in teaching learning process
  • 11. LIMITATIONS • It assumes that all students see same facts but it does not mean they follow it • Students are devoid of doing practical which snatches them from use of laboratory work • It fails to develop laboratory skills in student • It provides no scope for learning by doing for the student as students are only observing the teacher performing
  • 12. STEPS NEEDED TO CONDUCT A LECTURE CUM DEMONSTRATION LESSON 1.PLANNING AND PREPARATION Great care should be taken by the teacher while preparing demonstration .it should contain a. Subject matter b. Questions to be asked C. Apparatus required for the experiment
  • 13. 2. INTRODUCTION OF THE LESSON The lesson should start with a motivation. It is useful to introduce the lesson in a problematic way make student's realise the importance of the topic 3. PRESENTATION It is very important. A teacher should present lesson in a interesting manner.Questions should be arranged as their answers should complete the taught unit
  • 14. 5. BLACKBOARD SUMMARY important results and principles should be written at the blackboard.it is also used for drawing sketches and diagram. 6.SUPERVISION Students are asked to take notes of complete demonstration.this helps for learning.teacher should raise the interest among students.
