ARTIFICIAL PLANT
HORMONES
INTRODUCTION
 Plants have hormones to control and coordinate life activities in
plants.Theyare called “plant growth regulators”.
 These hormones can be synthesised artificially by identifying the
chemical structure of these hormones.called “ artificial plant
hormones”.
 Aixins, Gibberellin,Ethylene,Abscisic acid etc.. Are some of the
examples
 It has contributed a lot to the progress of the agricultural sector.
1. AUXINS
 It is used to prevent the dropping of premature
fruits.
 It is used for the sprouting of roots , it will It
will binds with the hormone receptors in plants
and leads to the Uncontrolled growth.
 Auxins act as a weedicide.
2. GIBBERELLINS
 It is used for increasing fruit size in
grapes and apples.
 It is used for preventing ripening of
fruits to Assist marketing.
3.ETHYLENE
 It is used for the flowering of the pineapple
Plants at the same time.
 Ethylene is used for the ripening of tomato,
Orange,Lemon etc....
 Ethyphon,a chemical liquid is transformed
Into ethylene , is used in rubber tress for
Increasing the production of latex.
4. CYTOKININ
 It improves photosynthesis in rice under
drought stress by modulating the
abundance of proteins related to
Chlorophyll contents of and
ribisco activity.
 It increases leaf and shoot growth,
stimulate growth of auxiliary buds,
Increase leaf primodia number.
Eg: kinetin
5. ABSCISIC ACID
 It is used for harvesting fruits at the same time.
 It regulate gene expression in plants via complex
intracellular signalling.
 It helps plants to tolerate against environmental
stress.
Parthenogenesis
 It is the process of formation of fruit from the
ovary without fertilization.
 Parthenocarpic fruits are seedless
 For parthenogenesis synthetic auxins like NAA,
IBA are used.
CONCLUSION
Plants also have different kinds of natural hormones to regulate and
coordinate their body activities
These hormones are synthesized artificially by identifying their nature ,
These are the artificial plant hormones.
Auxins, Gibberellins, Abscisic acid, Ethylene, cytokinin etc.. Are some of the
Commonly used artificial plant hormones.
It increases the economical status of the agricultural sector.
