 A city is a relatively large and permanent human
settlement.
 Nowadays is becoming the main environment we
experience, spending most of our lives on them.
 Population growth and industrial development
create a series of problems:
 Pollution
 Congestion
 Security
 …

4. But is crafted by evolution!
 The concept of the city is evolving into a “Global”
center for trade, finance, innovation and markets.
 This evolution is triggered by the technology and
cultural movements in our society.

 Green is the key!
 The integration of the city back into the
nature is a movement that we are already
experiencing. The inclusion of open spaces
as the city grow is fundamental for the
health of the city itself and its inhabitants.
 A emission free, quiet and efficient
transportation network is a must in
the future cities.
 Finally a renewable energy system
that give independence is necessary
to assure the city’s life.

 Sustainable
 Is the key of a controlled growth. The expansion of a city
should be organic, and in the process it should not become
overcrowded.
 New high efficiency developments will continue to emerge and
substitute old structures with conventional heating and AC
systems.
 Technology will keep evolving boosting connectivity and
entertaining features

 R&D focused
 The cities will be hubs of R&D facilities, leaving the old
industrial cores to separated areas.
 Transportation
 A clean and fast transport system will be necessary for the
development and to avoid collapsing of the great urban areas.
The future technology will help developing this new methods of
transportation.

 Organic Growth
 As the cities grow absorbing suburban areas, the need of more
and more open areas will be key on the future design. This will
mean that parks and other open areas will have a fundamental
role on the lives of the inhabitants of such cities.

 Cities of the World, not countries
 With the current trends of globalization, information
technologies and travel developments, the cultural mix on the
great cities will make them become real world cities.
 We are already experiencing this phenomena on cities like New
York, London, Berlin, Rio, Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, etc.
