Audience Research
By Amid Ojubanire
What is market research and
why is important?
 Market research is a process of gathering information from
target audiences. It is important as the data collected form
market research samples gives the companies and
institutions involved a feel of the audience as the research
can provide things such as opinions, age ranges, gender
sizes and other primary information. The information
gathered will help companies and institutions to gain insight
or support decision making of there products as from the
research gathered they can make there products more
applicable to the target audience.
My questions and
reasons + results
1. Are you male or female?
 Yes, it maybe a very basic question but it this question is
regarded as one of the most important questions in term of
audience focus as the data for this will determine in
demographic you have chosen which gender dominates and
from that you can determine what gender is more like to view
your content and that we chose this question.
What we take from this
survey is the that
gender majority was
male with an average
of 60%.so we can take
from this is that may
have to convey our
content to appal to a
more male audience.
2.How old are you?
 Yes another basic question but like with the other a very
important questions. As the data we will receive for this
question will give us a image of our age demographic. Thus
given us a age group to aim for as well now know with one is
more applicable to us.
What I can take from this is that
the most common age group is
17 year olds as shown by there
44% majority. What we can take
from this is that we may have to
applicable to more young adult
audience as the majority is not
18 but 17.
3.What is your favourite genre
of music?
 This is probably the most important question out the whole
questionnaire as the results will show us what the average
genre or sample listens to will also give us insight into
whatter our genre is popular with the sample in which
represent of the general age group we are aiming for.
What can take form this is that the most
common genre of music that our
sample favours is R’n’B with a 19%
majority. So although it is nit our groups
intended genre what can do consider
included element of R’n’B in our house
music video o make it more applicable
to our audience.
4. How often do you listen to
house/dance music?
 This another important question as the result from this
question will tell us how often people listen to this genre and
from we can also know whether it is popular or not.
What we can take from this is
that the genre is self is not of
regular consumption to
sample so as most of them
ether listen to house/dance
music often or sometimes.so
we can do for this is put facts
in our video so that the video
is more applicable to them.
5.What platform(s) do you
usually watch house/dance
music videos on?
 We choice to put question in our survey as the data from this
will give a average platform of where people consume house
music thus giving us a popular method for presenting our
music video.
In this result there is a very clear
platform in with our sample
consume house/dance music
videos which is YouTube with 70%
more then half of the sample.so
what we can take from this is that
our video has more change of
being consumed on a mass scale
if we post it on the YouTube
platform.
6.Are you more likely to buy or
download a song after watching
its music video?
 We choice to put question in our survey as the data from this
would give us clarity in our aim to make a music video for the
song as it would on average tell whether the presences of
music video actually promotes the song.
What we can take from this data
result is that although the 53% voted
no ,near to half with 47% still voted
yes. So what can take from that the if
video is of higher standard it may tip
the scales into people being more
inclined to buy the song.
7. How do you hear about new
music videos?
 This is another important question as the data that we get
from tell us the most popular promotion of music video which
we could use to promote our music make us have better
chance of gaining more sales, views and feedback.
What I can get from this
that YouTube is the best
platform to promote our
music video. As 60% of
our sample hear about
music videos through this
platform.
8. Which of the following
elements would you expect to
see in a dance/house music
video?
 This is another important question as the data from this will
give us a whole range of popular elements. Element which
we can use in our music video to gain more popularity as
they will be popular features.
What i can get from this data is the
element should seriously considered
using is the element of dance as 47%
of sample all agreed that it is the
element that they expect to is in
music videos.
9. What do you think of the
element of Paranoia in
house/dance music videos?
 This another important question as the data for the results
will help us determine whether or not that the elements that
we are group are aim to present are appropriate to
house/dance music video.
What I can get from this for data is that as
a majority of 39% our sample is on a
50/50 on whether the element of paranoia
will work in dance music video.
so what have consider from this whether
or not we going to drop the element or go
ahead and that the risk and go with it.
10. Are there any elements, techniques or styles that you would like to see in a
music video? If your idea(s) is/are really good, we may incorporate it into our music
video. Insert your name as well below, if you wish to be credited. This is not
obligatory, however, if you do wish to participate, you will be entered into a prize
draw, including: props signed by the band members, a chance to meet the band in
person, with some exclusive, limited edition goodies. Thank You.
 This is another important question as the data from the
results will give us additional qualitative information to
include in our music video.
What we can get form this is qualitative
data which go source of primary
information as we can get a direct source
of idea to add in our music video from this.
For example a stated below ‘a story
through dance'. Which is something we
can defiantly implement.
Conclusion
So what we can conclude from all the
data collected from the survey is that
as whole we had 36 participants in
the sample which gave us get source
of primary information which defiantly
be of good use to our video.
