This document compares transportation and communication metrics between 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 in Pakistan. It notes that Pakistan's road network grew slightly to around 260,000 km and the National Highway Authority completed 12 projects costing Rs. 19.6 billion. Railway freight traffic grew 17.7% but passenger traffic fell 17.6%. PIA earned more revenue in 2011 than 2010, and signed a purchase agreement for 5 Boeing 777 aircraft. Both Karachi Port and Port Qasim handled significantly more cargo in 2011-2012 than in 2010-2011. Gwadar Port handled 120 ships since its start and earned Rs. 53.4 million in total revenue. Cellular subscribers in Pakistan grew to over 102 million in 2010

In 2010-11, Pakistan has road network
covering 259,463 km including
180,866 km and 78,597 km low type
roads.
Pakistan current road network is
about 260,000 km which cater services
to 11 M vehicles of all type.
Since March 2008, NHA has
launched/Awarded 36 development
projects covering a length of above
1000 km inclusive the no. of bridges,
flyovers and interchanges.
NHA has completed 12 projects of
flyovers, bridges, interchanges and
road up gradation during the last one
year at the cost of Rs. 19,6 billion
During 2010-11 (July-March), in
railway, there has been a fall in
growth rate of passenger traffic by
17.6 % but freight traffic growth by
17.7%
Ministry of railway also adopted the
“track access policy” for private sector
participation to operate freight and
passengers operation on PR
infrastructure.

During the calendar year 2010, PIA
earned a revenue around Rs.107
billion as compared to last year of
Rs.94.6 billion.
PIA earned increased revenue
amounting Rs.116.02 billion in year
2011 as compared to Rs.107 billion in
last year. A purchase agreement of 5
Boeing 777 has been signed.

First ever largest ship of Pakistan
having 63,000 M ton wheat was
berthed at Gwadar Port in March
2008, Since up to Jan 2011, 120 ships
have been handled to Gwadar Port.

Total cellular subscribers at the end of
2010, crossed the 102.8 M mark, with
over 97% prepaid and 3% postpaid
subscription in the mobile market.
Teledensity of country has increased
by 68.3% in April 2012, showing 6,7%
growth as compared to last year.
