  2. 2. Nowadays, the environment is very important in every country. Obtaining energy from flowing water is one of the renewable energy sources and its impact on the environment is much smaller than, for example power plants that burn coal, oil or gas. A number of so-called emerging hydroelectric power plants that are located on the river and use flowing water to generate electricity is bigger and bigger
  3. 3. The principles of the operation of the power plants: Water affects the turbine blades and drives it, that sets in motion, and drives a generator, producing electricity. Then the water is discharged back into the river bed and continues the established electric energy is transferred to the power network

  6. 6. The Three Gorges Hydropower ( China ) :

  8. 8. Dams - required build dams on the rivers
  9. 9. Problems caused by the dam : When a dam is constructed, the destruction of the environment is highly visible. The problems caused by the dam -Increase flood risk -Hamper navigation -Lower groundwater tables -Cause an accumulation of toxic materials -Affect entire ecosystems
  10. 10. Pumped-storage - involves draining the second tank located at a high altitude
  11. 11. Cross section of pumped-storage power plant
  12. 12. Run of the river - do not pile up water and do not require the creation of inundations. Their power is limited by the power of flowing water
  13. 13. Cross section of Run-of-the-river hydroelectricity
  14. 14. Tidal power plants How do they work ? The regularly repeated rise and fall of the water level in the ocean is called the tidal phenomenon, which is caused by the gravitational forces of the Moon and the Sun. It is the new way of producing energy. Also called tidal energy, is a form of hydropower that converts the energy of tides into useful forms of power, mainly electricity.
  15. 15. Where can we find it ? France has opened the world's first tidal power in November in 1966 .
  16. 16. Wave power The first wave power station was established in the United States. But attached permanently subjected to movements of the waves, so that placed in the middle of the float rises and falls by moving the piston. This rotates the generator and so electricity is sent to shore underwater cable.
