Tong Eng Group is formed by two brothers, Teo Thye Chor and Thye
Hong, from Fujian, China. They set up shop in Singapore in the 1940s
under their founded company Tong Eng Brothers Pte Ltd trading
electrolytic tinplates for the manufacture of can and bottle cap. Their
business grew tremendously to make them become an important steel
trader in the region.
In the following decade, their vision led them into developing
properties. A 5.5 acre industrial estate in Paya Lebar and Little Road
was developed by the Tong Eng Brothers. Many sites were also sold to
major oil refining firms Mobil, Shell and Esso and thus earning the

brothers tidy sums.
In the next ensuing decade, a great number of apartments and landed
houses were constructed in Changi Grove and Tong Eng Heights (called
Changi Heights now) for rental to British Armed Forces. Over a hundred
acres of land were owned and developed by the company comprising
retail, office, apartments and landed houses.
Today, a tall and gleaming office of 26 storeys high in Cecil Street,
known as the Tong Eng Building, belongs to the group. With clear
foresight, the company continues to forge ahead and develop many
residential and commercial new launches in the Singapore property
