THE KYAMULENDU PRIMARY SCHOOL TISSUE CULTURE
BANANA PROJECT REPORT-JAN/FEB 2015
INTRODUTION AND BACKGROUND
Kyamulendu primary schoolwas funded by AFEW- GIRRAFECENTRE on
24th feb 2014 to carry out the project mentioned above. Herein after the Tissue
Culture Horticulture Project from the funds (70,000),we managed to purchase
drip irrigation pipes, seedlings, paid supportservices and indeed we have
successfully initiated a classic Tissue Culture Banana that has successfully
catched up with 600 potential Bananas that are currently being sold by the
Project Management Committee as at 2015.We also bought Polythene paper for
arrowroots and the seedlings .We dug the trench and bought manure using the
same amount. We harvested and realised 4800 within three months and the
green added to the children’s lunch.
OUR KEY PROJECTIONS
 We intend to sell part of the produceto raise ksh50,000 to purchase crisps
cutting machine that costs 150,000.These will have banana value change
capacity building to teachers and community.
 We anticipate that the value change formalization will adequately
strengthen the school, that is teachers ,Board of Management(BOM)
community to perform their mandate with support from AFEW thereby
stimulating commercialization and improvement of Banana value change
in the schooland its environs.
SOCIAL ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY
 Formalised marketing structures and linkages will ensure long term socio
economics benefits to the communities ,the orphaned and vulnerable in
the school. Same for greater involvement of our community partners and
stakeholders.
 To date we have trained Katwanyaa Primary Schoolon SchoolGreening,
Horticulture and Environment Conservation.
 We have also started Aloe vera and hibiscus that we intend to sell as
herbal (medicinal plants.)
 In 2015 ,we have Projected and started work plan to carry out a Mega
vegetable Garden that will be utilised as a learning Centre on Education
for Sustainable Development.
 In 2015 we focus to expand our leaners Eco Tour to facilitate the leaning
on practical Based Approachwith the supportof AFEW.
 Our parents and BOM are a key stakeholders we have successfully
organised for them an integrated program on community participation on
schoolEnvironment Conservation.
THE BANANA SALES UPDATE
To date we havesold our Tissues Culture Banana at least 22,000 of which it is a
eighth of our projected sales. The sales are managed by the project
management committee that is composed of three selected three children
representative, the patron and the headteacher .As at January the project
committee had 8 members.
The sales are clearly recorded with fully transparency and accountability where
the head teacher certifies the collections of the Banana sales for the purposeof
the checks and balances.
 The cash is supervised by the patron as the custody of the fund.
 The children are to motivated yet through schoolfeeding program after
the crips project picks up
 Our Financial records are purely open for anybody to study the
proceedings.
N/B All the weekly sales of the bananas are read to the children at the parade
ground on Fridays.
OUR KEY CHALLENGES
 Theft of the bananas by the community.
 Lack of fence hence the need for fencing the Horticultural field.
 Expensive pesticides.
 Lack for community information on the value of the project to the school.
 Destruction of the vegetables by birds

CONCLUTION
The Kyamulendu Primary SchoolTissue Culture Project thus aims at realising
Crips cutting machine and the provision to schools and the greater expanded
market for consumption ,thus realise funds for schoolfeeding program.
We urgently need Crips cutting machine to kick start the project. We
further hope that the continuing supportof the AFEW-Giraffe Centre as our
pillar to fully implement the 2015 Activity Road Map.

THE KYAMULENDU PRIMARY SCHOOL TISSUE CULTURE BANANA PROJECT REPORT-JAN/FEB 2015 INTRODUTION AND BACKGROUND Kyamulendu primary schoolwas funded by AFEW- GIRRAFECENTRE on 24th feb 2014 to carry out the project mentioned above. Herein after the Tissue Culture Horticulture Project from the funds (70,000),we managed to purchase drip irrigation pipes, seedlings, paid supportservices and indeed we have successfully initiated a classic Tissue Culture Banana that has successfully catched up with 600 potential Bananas that are currently being sold by the Project Management Committee as at 2015.We also bought Polythene paper for arrowroots and the seedlings .We dug the trench and bought manure using the same amount. We harvested and realised 4800 within three months and the green added to the children’s lunch. OUR KEY PROJECTIONS  We intend to sell part of the produceto raise ksh50,000 to purchase crisps cutting machine that costs 150,000.These will have banana value change capacity building to teachers and community.  We anticipate that the value change formalization will adequately strengthen the school, that is teachers ,Board of Management(BOM) community to perform their mandate with support from AFEW thereby stimulating commercialization and improvement of Banana value change in the schooland its environs. SOCIAL ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY  Formalised marketing structures and linkages will ensure long term socio economics benefits to the communities ,the orphaned and vulnerable in the school. Same for greater involvement of our community partners and stakeholders.  To date we have trained Katwanyaa Primary Schoolon SchoolGreening, Horticulture and Environment Conservation.
  • 2.  We have also started Aloe vera and hibiscus that we intend to sell as herbal (medicinal plants.)  In 2015 ,we have Projected and started work plan to carry out a Mega vegetable Garden that will be utilised as a learning Centre on Education for Sustainable Development.  In 2015 we focus to expand our leaners Eco Tour to facilitate the leaning on practical Based Approachwith the supportof AFEW.  Our parents and BOM are a key stakeholders we have successfully organised for them an integrated program on community participation on schoolEnvironment Conservation. THE BANANA SALES UPDATE To date we havesold our Tissues Culture Banana at least 22,000 of which it is a eighth of our projected sales. The sales are managed by the project management committee that is composed of three selected three children representative, the patron and the headteacher .As at January the project committee had 8 members. The sales are clearly recorded with fully transparency and accountability where the head teacher certifies the collections of the Banana sales for the purposeof the checks and balances.  The cash is supervised by the patron as the custody of the fund.  The children are to motivated yet through schoolfeeding program after the crips project picks up  Our Financial records are purely open for anybody to study the proceedings. N/B All the weekly sales of the bananas are read to the children at the parade ground on Fridays.

CONCLUTION The Kyamulendu Primary SchoolTissue Culture Project thus aims at realising Crips cutting machine and the provision to schools and the greater expanded market for consumption ,thus realise funds for schoolfeeding program. We urgently need Crips cutting machine to kick start the project. We further hope that the continuing supportof the AFEW-Giraffe Centre as our pillar to fully implement the 2015 Activity Road Map.
