The Advanced 8th grade group chose an article
about Anne Frank to discuss this semester since
last semester.
For this unit, students;
•Read the chosen article
•Watched an assigned movie
•Watched related interviews
•Wrote a personal reflection
4. Movie: “The Diary of Anne Frank”
Before discussion,
the students
watched the 2009
movie "The Diary of
Anne Frank"
provided by the
teacher using
Netflix.
5. Even thought many students were
familiar with the character of Anne
Frank, they didn't understand the
reality of her situation. Some
thought she was a fictional
character. And none knew how her
story ended....
6. After the movie:
It took two classes to watch the whole movie.
And when the movie ended, many students
were in tears because of the ending.
Students were assigned to write a reflection
about the movie regarding certain themes from
which they were allowed to choose from;
Search of self, Hatred, and Courage.

11. In class:
The students were presented with a PPP about
the historical events of World War II and the
Holocaust. They saw photos of the Holocaust
Museum in Washington D.C. and of
concentration camps in Holand. They expressed
their personal opinions regarding the war and
what was done to the Jewish community.
12. Interviews
Students were able to watch two interviews;
one made to Otto Frank (Anne’s father) and one
made to one of Anne’s childhood friend.
14. This was my first class with my 8th graders and
it was a wonderful experience.
My students were deeply interested in the life
story of Anne Frank. They were brought to tears
by the movie. And wrote thoughtful and analytic
reflections about the movie.
15. I believe this lesson plan is an evidence of the
Planning principle because even thought it
wasn’t my first lesson plan ever, it was the first
one I had to the chance to perform with my
practicum students.
I was able to complete all my activities and
complete my whole lesson plan in the required
time.
