On September 8 BENEO Animal Nutrition hosted a virtual conference on “Prebiotic Solutions in Piglets – Natural support for intestinal health”. At first DR IOANNIS MAVROMICHALIS, reputed nutritionist and CEO of Ariston Nutrition Consulting International, shared his long expertise in pig nutrition with some insights on the evolution of gut health control in piglets. • 2000s: Addition of high-fibre ingredients at the expense of lactose – low protein
• 2010s: Normal fibre levels, but still lower lactose and sodium levels – low protein
• 2020s: Low but targeted fibre levels, minimal lactose, even lower protein through
the use of more synthetic AA and refined protein sources
