3. Advantages of sourcing images this way:
The advantages of sourcing images this way are that there is a lot more variety
of specific and older/ more historic images than if you were to look on google for
them. Another advantage is that within the books it will tell you the name of the
photographer that has taken the images so that you can go and find out what its
copyright licence is to see if you can use it free of charge or not
Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:
The disadvantages to this is that you have to go out of your way to actually find
a book that has relevant images in that you can use meaning that it can be quite
time consuming. Another disadvantage could be that the images can sometimes
be of a lower quality. For example if you are having to get them off a print based
format (either by taking a picture of the book or by scanning it in)
5. Advantages of sourcing images this way:
There are many advantages to sourcing images this way, the main one being
that they are quick and easy to get a hold of meaning that you can pretty much
find an image of anything you want as well as them being free for the public.
Another advantage is that with google images there is a tool menu which allows
you to refine your searches by things such as size, copyright, and the type of
image (e.g. clipart, cartoon, real life) which makes it easier for you to find the
exact image you're looking for.
Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:
Some of the disadvantages may be that their can sometimes be copyright
infringement issues meaning that you will not be able to use a certain image
you find for whatever reason you are wanting it for due to copyright reasons.
The image you are wanting to use could be pixelated, or could become
pixelated if you are wanting to increase the size of the image.
7. Advantages of sourcing images this way:
An advantage of sourcing images via an image stock library is that because you
will have to pay for the image means that you won't have to deal with the legal
copyright issues which results in you being able to use the images however and
wherever you like. Another advantage is that all of the images you buy will be of
a high quality. Finally there is also a wide variety of images in which you can
find that will fit your brief and/or product almost perfectly.
Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:
The disadvantages of sourcing images via an image stock library is that they
can be quite expensive to buy and it makes it hard to only screenshot or
preview the images because they usually have watermarks all over them so that
you cannot use them without purchasing the image(these watermarks are also
difficult to edit and photoshop out). Another disadvantage is that even if you
have purchased the image it will not be exclusive to your product as anybody
else can also purchase it and use it for their products too. If you are caught
using a stock image photo without paying for it then there is a solid chance that
you could receive a fine, it can also cause legal difficulties if the fine is not paid.
9. Advantages of sourcing images this way:
An advantage for this would be that because you have taken the images
yourself (meaning you are the photographer/commissioner) it will obviously be
copyright free meaning you are able to use it however and wherever you would
like. Another advantage is that all the images you take will be original as you
have complete control over how your image should look and what it should be
of. Moving on from this another factor is that due to the fact that using your
images is copyright free it enables you to edit all of your images however you
would like without breaching the laws of copyright. Furthermore by using your
own images means that you can add a commission price to them and sell them
on for other people to use if you wanted too.
Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:
Some of the disadvantages are that it can be relatively time consuming. If you
are needing images that require being photographed further away than where
you currently are it can make it difficult to achieve this and in some cases if you
pursue with this can also make it expensive (with travel costs). Another factor is
that you might not have the professional ability or skill to take your own images
or you may not have the right equipment and purchasing all of these
professional pieces of equipment can be extremely costly however if you do not
already own these pieces of equipment it can reduce the quality in your image
drastically. You will also need editing software (such as Photoshop) to edit your
photos which will make them look even better and more professional however
15. Advantages of different resolutions:
The advantages of using different resolutions are that it can reduce the file size
by a significant amount which means it will be quicker to download, whilst also
remaining a good enough picture quality for you to use.
Disadvantages of different resolutions:
Some of the disadvantages are that if you are wanting a smaller resolution size
it can as a result make your image become blurry. Another disadvantage of
different resolutions is that if you have an image with a much higher resolution it
can take a while to process and load because of its high quality.
17. Explain the changes you made to the image and explain why you made
those changes:
With this image I decided to make a few changes. The first thing in which I
decided to do was alter the brightness and contrast of the overall image I did
this by clicking 'adjustments > Brightness/Contrast, I then made the image
brighter (+65) I also added a little bit of contrast so that the image would stay
blended together nicely (+10). Next I clicked on the quick selection tool and
highlighted over the lake section of the image. Once I had clicked on all of the
lake I right clicked and chose 'layer via copy'. This then cut out the lake section
of the image and made it a separate layer compared too the rest of the photo. I
then decided that I wanted the lake to be in black and white as I felt that this
enhanced how the water was reflecting the scenery behind it. To do this I
clicked on my new layer and went to 'Image>Adjustments> Black and White'
Once I had reached this stage I altered a few of the colours which as a result
made my image a bit of a darker black and white than what it was previously
set too. Next I thought that seeing as the bottom half of my image was a lot
darker I should make the rest of the image slightly more coloured so that it
further stands out. To do this I clicked on my original layer, then went to
adjustments and clicked on 'Hue/ Saturation' and slightly adjusted the hue (+4)
which made my original image a slightly brighter blue which correlated with the
dark black and white a lot better than what it originally did.
