MUSIC IN THE NORTH EAST- VOICE OVER
Sam Fender is a British singer songwriter with a unique voice
and a talent for writing meaningful lyrics. His music is a
blend of rock and indie pop ad he is well known for his
powerful live performances and his Geordie accent.
After spending many years on benefits throughout his
childhood, Sam Fender has went from supporting small bands in
his local pub to playing Leeds festival in 2021 and
headlining it in 2023.
Sam quit sixth from to help provide for his mother and work
his 2 jobs as she had to end her 40 year career as a nurse,
due to a mental illness that deemed her unfit to work.
While studying for his A levels Sam held up 2 jobs they were
working in a restaurant and the pub which was the Low Lights
Tavern.
In the area of North Shields where Sam grew up drugs were
very prominent and after the social pressure of trying drugs
Sam realized he needed to be independent quick.
Sam studied at Whitley Bay Highschool where he was studying
for his A levels, he studied for A level English Language and
literature. This is where he met Joe Atkinson one of his new
band mates who he'd soon travel the world with.
With his mother being a nurse and his dad being an
electrician, they were a very working class family that lived
in terrace house in the suburbs of North Shields. His father
was also a singer songwriter he was a guitarist and a pianist
as well.
Behind Sam's lyrics is all meaningful events from his
childhood and how it was like to be brought up in North
Shields in Tynemouth, while also living in poverty at the
time.
