1. Casting Old Nancy Moore
Georgi Honnor
Again without access to actors from agencies casting can be a difficult process,
due to finding actors of the right look, age, ability and availability for the role.
With old Nancy needed to be portrayed with someone of an acting age of
roughly 60-70+ this lead our casting directions to Grandma's of our own and
friends.
We first decided that our Grandma Barbara was good for the role, however,
after a 'screen test' it became evident that her age made it difficult for her to...
Follow instruction (let alone hear them)
Understand the storyline and what was being asked of her
Look natural on camera
This left us in a difficult position as we needed to find an 'old Nancy Moore'
quickly.
We then thought that we should ask Bette, a lady, although 70 who still rides
horses. Not only was she still physically and mentally capable of playing the
role of old Nancy, she looked just right too.
After asking if she'd like to be in our film she soon agreed.
This means that we know have an Old Nancy cast for our opening title
sequence.
