Job Title: Linux/Cisco Engineer, Consultant
Consulting services, configuration, management on Cisco routers (1700, 2500, 2800 Series) Load Balancer, Cisco
switches (2900, 3750, 5500 Series) VLANs, Voip telecomm systems and network deployment.
Provision Interface cards on Cisco routers to establish WAN links between locations of PCMsystems customers.
Configure the router to handle traffic between the customer main office and customer's remote premises so that
applications could be run from the remote office on the main office servers.
Configure VPN access to the main office server from remote locations that used ADSL connections to the Internet.
Configure VLANs on the Cisco switches to differentiate traffic within the customer network.
Linux Operating system installation, configuration and administration. (Ubuntu/Debian, Red Hat, Centos)
Provide customers with on-site Cloud solutions via virtualization software solutions like VMware, Virtualbox or help
them migrate towards the off-site cloud solution with either Microsoft Azure of which PCM Technologies is a certified

Job Title: Linux/Network Engineer, Consultant
Contractor for Telcel since February 2011
Responsible for providing engineering support for Motorola’s PoC or PTT system to Telcel.
After the sale of their Networks Division to Nokia-Siemens by Motorola, the new company decided to not continue
providing support for the PoC systems to the international customers. As a result Telcel approached me to explore the
possibility of contracting my services directly to continue providing them with support for their PoC platform. Also as the
system was already going into obsolescence, Telcel needed to secure a reliable provider of replacement hardware to
provide spares for their aging system.
The role required to keep the maintain the system in good operational level. The system based on Linux Red Hat, NAS
storage and clustered redundant applications provided high availability and fault tolerance. Monitoring the DHCP, DNS,
NTP time and date synchronization critical for the billing application, also the HTTP/HTPS Apache Tomcat servers
running, needed to provision the customer subscribers and system configuration via web. Java services used to provide
functionality to subscribers mobile cellphone apps.

Contractor for Motorola, Inc. since January 2008
Responsible of providing engineering support, and administration (O&M, Software, Hardware and Network Lan/Wan:
monitoring, upgrade, failure diagnostic/recovery and optimization, hardware replacement) for Motorola’s “PoC” or PTT
system to Motorola's customers for the whole Latin America Region (LAC).
Provide network support, administration, troubleshooting and optimization for the LAN/WAN, VPN, Firewalls and DNS
used to interconnect the PoC System with the mobile operator subscribers (Cell Phones).
Provide also the same support for the LAN/WAN, VPN, Firewalls and DNS used to interconnect different operators from
same or different countries.
With $3 million US dollars in revenue Motorola’s Customers Serviced:
America Moviles (Telcel - Mexico, Claro - Nicaragua, Claro - Guatemala, Claro - Brazil, Claro - Argentina, Claro - Peru,
Comcel – Colombia), IUSACELL – Mexico Movilnet – Venezuela, Telefonica (Movistar - Venezuela, Movistar –
Argentina).
PoC is a service offered to more than 1.6 million subscribers over the regular cell phone platform to provide point to
point and point to multipoint, half duplex calls using voip and a cellular data plan.
Voice data from the cellphone are encoded with an AMR vocoder (GSM) or the EVRC vocoder (CDMA). Packets are
sent via RTP encapsulated over UDP to the other party using GPRS/G3 or better data transport.
The system is comprised of:
Intel Blade 2U Servers, DotHill SANnet II SCSI Array, Force Computers Centellis CO 21000-12U system, Motorola
CPCI-745 CPU Cards, Znyx ZX4500P PICMG Fabric Switch (Running VRRP), MRV In-Reach IR-8040 40 Console
Ports Switch Remote Presence Solution, Cisco 2800 Series Routers (Load Balancing/Fail-over), Cisco WS-5500 Series
Switches running Cisco HSRP redundant.
A proprietary Motorola OS “MoBIOS” derived from Red Hat Enterprise Server Linux solution is used.
Red Hat Clustering (HA) is used to achieve a NEBS compliant, High Availability, 100% Fault Tolerant
software/hardware solution.
The systems uses these protocols: dns, ftp, http, https, ntp, rtp, sctp, sip, smtp, ssh, tcpip, telnet, udp, xml.
It provides a host of applications to manage the operation of the platform: Billing, Media services, call processing and
management, subscriber provisioning, system configuration, system monitoring, logging (error, call flow control, billing
and others), PostgreSQL database and general system maintenance, etc.
Web pages or CLI can be used to monitor, configure and administrate the system, XML can be used to provision the
subscribers by the mobile operator. Also web pages can be used by the subscribers to manage their buddy and group
contact lists. Apache Tomcat servers provided this functionality.

Start up operations in the USA of a subsidiary branch of JyM C.A. with $0.25 million in annual sales.
Drive revenues by actively seeking new markets and opportunities both in the US and abroad, become a qualified and
approved Motorola’s vendor, obtained exclusive distribution of several companies in order to re-sell in the Brazil,
Colombia and Venezuela’s oil field market. Responsible for sourcing products and services for our partners and
customers throughout Latin America.
Projects completed for Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. in their San Tome field to install a wireless network to deploy high
bandwidth high security IP traffic using the Canopy (Motorola’s) system.
Provide Unix SCO/Linux and Windows Server (2003/2007/2008), Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, mail, SQL Server
Support, Installation, Administration and Consulting services.
Obtained a contract with Motorola in order to provide O&M services on a PoC/PTT system installed at Telefonica-USA

Project Management. My last job involved working with a telecomm company that has operations in Mexico, Nicaragua,

responsible for the system installed there and was the focal point or interface between Motorola USA and them. Held this
position from 2008 until 2013 when became independently contracted to provide support as Motorola no longer wished
to support the system.
Sales and new markets acquisition, by working with customers to meet their demands to solve complex IT and Telecomm
industry sector issues.
Other skills and competences
A Ham Radio operator since 1976 (YV6BFL) obtained my first license in Venezuela, subsequently while attending
college in the UK passed the City & Guilds Amateur Radio Certificate (M0GXC) and finally while living in the US
obtained the Extra Class license (W4BFL). Also an avid R/C (Cars, Planes and Helicopter) model builder.
Life Member of the ARRL (US Amateur Radio Relay League). Serve as Technical Specialist for the ARRL South Eastern
Division and as an Extra Class Voluntary Examiner. Also help as mentor and organizer in the activities within the clubs I
belong to.

The systems uses these protocols: dns, ftp, http, https, ntp, rtp, sctp, sip, smtp, ssh, tcpip, telnet, udp, xml.
