Employment History – Sales & Management
Taplin Group of Companies – As Managing Director of Taplin Glenelg and Taplin Adelaide
undertook Valuations for 20 years in residential and commercial, as well as being sales
manager of teams upto 18 people for both companies.
Sallmanns – Appointed Director of Valuations 1995 and part owner, but company merged
with Hooker Corporate 1996.
Hooker Corporate – Became of Valuation team for some 2 years, but then company merged
with Ballieu Knight Frank.
Knight Frank – Worked full time in Valuation Division for some 5 years, assisting sales team
in major transactions.
Brock Commercial – Appointed commercial salesman in 2001, and become top salesperson
after two years. Sales included shopping centres, industrial complexes, subdivisions, private
hospitals, commercial and specialised properties.
Hooker Commercial/Stanley Thompson/Propell National Valuers – Undertook a joint sales,
management and valuation roles for these entities for some 5 years.
Taplin Consultancy – Commenced operations as a sole trader April 2011. Specialising in
Valuations and general Consultancy work whilst pursuing Commercial Real Estate sales,
leasing, and management for various commercial and individual clients.
Sales Experience
Gary has undertaken a wide range of sales and leasing for a variety of purposes. These include:
Commercial, industrial and retail properties of all types and sizes.
Lease negotiations. For all categories and property
Consultancy and Project Management.
Residential, including large projects, and community plans.
Land subdivisions for residential and industrial.
Feasibility Studies, for most types of development projects.
Gary has had nearly 50 years’ experience in selling and valuing all types of real property, equipping
him with a broader understanding of the essence of real estate and the drivers behind decision
making of purchasers, developers and funders.

Court Experience
Gary has been instructed on many occasions as an expert for court appearances, and has given
evidence, and supplied advice to lawyers and barristers for the Supreme Court, the Family Court, the
Magistrates Court and the Land and Valuation Court.
Other Activities
Gary was appointed President of the Prince Alfred College Old Collegians Association.
After seven years of Board representation, Gary was appointed as the youngest President of the Real
Estate Institute of South Australia in 1984, from where he became the Treasurer and ultimately only
the second South Australian to be appointed President of the Real Estate Institute of Australia in 1995.
All these involved considerable committee work and chairmanship in a wide range of real estate
activities.
Gary was awarded life member of REISA in 2010 for his services.
