Also known as the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination (USASLE), the Series 63
securities exam and license allows individuals to solicit the purchase or sale of securities such as
stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and variable annuities. Those who are interested in selling securities are
required to acquire a Series 63 license, as well as Series 7 and Series 6 licenses. The Series 63
license exam, which was recently updated to account for the new 2018 tax code, measures not only
the agents’ knowledge of state securities regulations and fiduciary obligations but also their
understanding of the ethical practices involved with the sale of various investment products.
