15. Challenges & burning issues
Let’s talk about them
• For achievement of the ambitious European energy efficiency goals, there is still a lack of reliable
and precise indicators for identifying changes and deviations in energy performance in existing
buildings. Some reasons:
• There is a huge diversity of legacy HVAC systems (manufacturer, type) limiting or even
hindering cost-efficient integration with automated optimization processes
• A complex and regulated division of roles in the value chains of energy and real estate
management for providing heating to the end-user – all roles having different projections of
risk, opportunity and added-value, making it difficult to allow tenants, for example, to benefit
from energy savings
• Manifold influences on a building’s specific energy performance requiring a multitude of actions
and measures which might have minor effects individually, but collectively become significant
Short presentation EN_v5 | 04.10.2013
15
16. Challenges & burning issues
Let’s talk about them
“How can we refinance our investment in
an energy management system as quickly
as possible?”
“How can we organize the best way that our
tenants can benefit from the achieved energy
savings?”
“How do we solve classical conflicts of interest,
e.g. that our district heating partner wants to sell
as much as possible and we want to continuously
reduce the amount of purchased energy?”
Diagram: http://www.ecofective.com/index.php/en/services
“How can we motivate the government and
the EU to optimize the framework for
energy efficiency projects that are not only
focusing on traditional refurbishment?”
