2. THEATRICAL
The social realism film Fish Tank was shown at Barbican cinema,Arnolfini centre in
Bristle, the national film centre in London and Manchester cornerhouse. Social
realism films are more shown in art house cinemas which are more attracted to
artistica"y minded, higher educated , and more cultura"y developed people. However,
in my film i am trying to break away #om being pigeon holed only in art house
cinemas, however my primary audience is sti" the inte"ectual audience. But I want to
have a bi%er choice of audience as my film is not just aimed at people who are
familiar with social realism. I have made my film more open to the theatrical
audience by adding in a young, attractive, male to my film who does running for a
sport, this wi" attract my audience because a lot of young people are interested in
sports. This is much like whatAndreaArnold did with the social realism film Fish
Tank.

There are a number of different sites people can watch films on such as; IMDb,
LOVEFILM, MUBI etc. Members of these sites can comment and review and film they
want to watch, there is also message boards where people can discuss and ask questions for
other users to answer. These websites are usua"y aimed at people of who are familiar with
the term social realism; however some new members may come across these films and dislike
them because they are not use to them. People who are familiar with the genre use key terms
such as; ‘Gritty and Grim’, and o(en refer to other social realism films: ‘Having seen
Tyrannosaur’. This te"s us that the audience are serious, interested n specific films and wi"

7. TARGET AUDIENCE
RESEARCH
My own target audience research has taught me that more people that are familiar
with the genre of social realism would most likely consume my film. To gain that
result I had asked a sma" group of 13 teenagers in my school to see their honest opinion,
half of them said that they were familiar with the genre but half said they wasn’t.
However, the people that did not have a clue what social realism was then said that
they was prepared to watch a social realism film a(er I explained to them what the
genre rea"y meant.Another result was that people at the age range of 16-18 years old
as they could resemble themselves with my film.
