Workshop 3 will focus on how educational games and digital resources can be integrated into primary and secondary curricula to improve school success. The workshop aims to provide teachers with skills for selecting and using open educational resources and game-based learning to engage students in rich learning experiences.

EFQUEL Innovation Forum 201: Presentation ENGAGE -Workshop 3
1. The 4th EFQUEL Innovation Forum will take
place in Lisbon, Portugal in collaboration with
the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) and
the National Institute for Public

wellfare through better equipping citizens
with necessary skills.

2. The conference takes place at the Instituto
Nacional de Administração (INA), situated
in the gardens of the old Palace de
Marqueses de Pombal in Oeiras, close to
Lisbon, in Portugal.
The Forum will start on September 8th
with a pre-conference day, followed by the
main conference SEPT 9-10, 2010.
3. Contrary to a research based conference,
the EFQUEL Innovation Forum 2010 is
bridging the gap by opening debates
between different educational
stakeholders from Primary & Secondary
Education, to Higher Education,
Vocational Education & Training and
Adult Learning.

4. In line with the "European Year for Combating
Poverty and Social Inclusion", the Lisbon Innovation
Forum is commonly answering fundamental
questions about the purpose of quality education for
individual, organizational and society level.
Open educational resources (OER) are high on the
agenda of social inclusion policies and supported by
many stakeholders of the educational sphere. User
Generated Content is more relevant than ever, and
co- and peer-production increasingly at the heart of
content development.

5. On September 8th you can take part in
the Workshop 3:
“Jogos Educativos e Recursos
Educativos Digitais no Ensino: novos
conceitos em contexto curricular para
uma escola de sucesso…? “
“We have been consistently impressed and
surprised at how leading educationalists have
been adapting off the shelf video games
to engage their students in rich leaning
experiences“.
David Yarnton, 2010, Nintendo UK
6. Nowadays pupils are digital natives: They are
growing up with internet, mobile devices and
computer games. On the other hand,
teachers are still basing their lessons on
textbooks and traditional learning material -
often because they are knowing rather little
about new technologies and how to use them
in the classroom.
The European Network for Growing Activity in
Game-based learning (GBL) in Education sees
the high potential of computer games in
particular to engage pupils in the school
lessons.
The objective of the workshop 3 is to train
teachers in introducing innovative technology
based ways of teaching such as OER and GBL
in order to improve the quality of Primary and
Secondary Education.
7. The workshop 3 is partly held in Portuguese and
English. Participants will get necessary skills to select
and use OER and GBL in their own environment.
Beside practical examples and showcases, the process
of embedding OER and GBL by convincing rectors,
colleagues and technical administrators is part of the
discussions as well.
In the end of the workshop 3, the participants are
drafting an individual roadmap how to progress using
technology for education.
Participants are getting a presence certification for the
attendance of the workshop.
