The Most Important Discussion on the Planet
Dear Readers,
We would like to thank you for taking the time to look at Green Self Reliance's first newsletter.
Through this publication, we have one central goal, to spread information about practical
ways that we may work together to make a significant difference in the world. Problems seem to
constantly plague our world. Entrepreneurs and pioneers actually look for ways to circumvent
these problems, making life more manageable for the rest of us. Those folks understand that,
behind every problem lies a business opportunity.
The bigger the problem, the more compelling the opportunity. A massive business opportunity is
staring us in the face, of potential systemic global economic collapse. Engineering a solution to
this dilemma constitutes a business opportunity of such unprecedented scale and profitability,
that it may be hard to comprehend what is the first step towards a prosperous and secure future. It
may require us to take a long hard look at our own lives.
Green Self Reliance, Inc.’s breathtakingly simple solution to these apparently insurmountable
global problems begins in communities – particularly small rural communities. Global economic
problems tend to hit hardest in rural communities in developing countries. This is the “first step”
GSR focuses on for systemic economic invigoration. Our team helps rural communities transform
themselves into “social corporations” and enter into deep partnership with these social
corporations to develop the local economy – in effect making it possible for the people in those
communities to lift themselves out of the poverty trap and secure a respectable and happy
lifestyle.
This business opportunity is long-term and envisions setting in motion a development process
that will continue long after our lifetimes. The investor profile that is required is a new form of
impact investing that invests in a process and a foundation for such process rather than a
specified outcome. This is the next generation of impact investing that purposely engages in
social engineering.
We look forward to entering into a dialogue with you, our reader and hear what you have to
contribute to this ongoing very important discussion. Please follow us on Twitter at @gsr_inc, and
help us engage in groundbreaking systemic innovation.

India’s Ambitious Five Year Rural Development Initiative
In a report published in early January 2013, India’s Minister of Rural Development, Jairam
Ramesh stated that the Indian government has created new ambitious Five Year Plan goals that
the government hopes will solve underlying problems such as poverty, resource mismanagement,
and land degradation. India is a largely agricultural economy, which means the success of the
country is deeply tied to how people effectively manage the land making rural development
planning perfect economic sense. Minister Ramesh with the support of the United Nations
Development Program (UNDP) went on to further declare that a drastic paradigm shift in rural
development will help India meet these goals in rural development:
To improve quality and carrying of ecosystems including, water in surface bodies, aquifers
and soil profile and arresting degradation of natural resources
To enable sustainable livelihoods, based on sustainable use of natural resources
To strengthen ecosystem resilience to enable them to recover from extreme weather events
and cope with climate change
To reduce the ecological footprint of interventions through efficient use of energy, material,
natural resources and increased use of renewable materials
These goals not only make economic and environmental sense but nicely complement the
principles of self reliance as well. In fact, GSR is in the process of negotiating an agreement with
ANGRAU, the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University in Hyderabad to combine ANGRAU’s
Adopt-a Village Program, which has been running for 30 years. The GSR Village Empowerment
model seeks to take advantage of funding opportunities from a program run by India’s Ministry of
Agriculture called Public Private Partnership for Agricultural Development (PPPIAD) whose
ultimate objective is to encourage the private sector to invest in India’s rural economy.
If negotiations go well we could see a GSR project set up in India within the year.
3. Green Self Reliance on The Aegean? It Could Happen, Here's
How
What does a company like Green Self Reliance, Inc. have to offer as a solution to Greece’s
current debt crisis? After all GSR is focused on building village economies in the developing
world. And Greece is part of the European Union, one of the most highly developed economic
blocs in the world. We believe methods that prove highly effective in the “developed world’ can
bring about positive results even in the “developing world” therefore, why not try the reverse?
Especially when said developed world nation is undergoing an economic crisis.
What is the root cause of problems in Greece? Some economists claim that the basic problem
that Europe suffered was that many countries were impacted by the backlash of the housing bust
in the US back in 2008 due to the subprime mortgage loans (of which many EU nations had
invested in), and this was further exacerbated by an inflation of their assets.
Also, borrowing millions of dollars to fund the 2004 Athens Olympics nearly drove Greece into
debt. By doing this, they dug themselves into a deep hole where they found themselves unable to
pay back the debts that they had with other foreign investors (and countries). This resulted in
downgrading of the debt of Greece (leading to a ripple effect with other members of the EU bloc),
which tells investors how likely it will be for them to get an ROI for any investment with. The only
difference is that in this situation the investors are countries and international banks instead of
individuals.
GSR’s solution in villages might actually work in Greece and other countries experiencing debt
crisis:
1. Get everyone working
2. Train workers to increase productivity
3. Build incentives for local consumption
4. Focus on green agricultural methods which steadily improve soil productivity (see the GSR
website for more details)
5. Reduce energy consumption by focus on green renewable energy
Many people might feel that these methods are too simplistic, but GSR strongly asserts that
communities taking active steps towards self reliance will demonstrate strong economic growth.
GSR intends to help Africa achieve prosperity, and then introduce these community
empowerment methods in countries like Greece.
