 Iran is one of the most disaster prone countries in the world
 Students are more vulnerable than others
 Tehran has 4000 schools
 Less than 10 % of Tehran schools are completely safe
 Our budget is limited
So what should we do?
1. Renovate schools

Preparing and Implementing Risk
Reduction Program
Based on risk profile, schools divided to 3 levels:
1-Green: low risk
2- Yellow: medium risk
3- red: high risk
 Based on risk profile, Risk Reduction Program also divided to 3 levels:
1- short term program
2- Medium term program
3- long term program

School rescue box has these equipment:
 Rescue equipment
 first aid kit
 Communication Tools
 Food and Water
 Other tools

 Public training for students in schools (30 min by DAWAM members)
 Half day camp for students in disaster management headquarters (for
elementary schools)
 Two days camp for high school student
 Printing Educational brochures and books (for students and their
families).

Public training of students in schools
 This training will be done by DAWAM members in each class
 It includes 2 parts and each part take 15 minutes
 Introduction to disasters (especially for high school students)
 Rescue bag (mutual part)
 Sheltering in earthquake (especially for elementary school students)

 In camp with Overnight accommodation
 16 hours training almost practical
 First Aid
 Fire Fighting
 Camping
 Incident reporting
 Emergency Evacuation

Finally prepared school symbol goes to school

1. All steps of project has been occurred in
2. Risk Profile shows that school stay on green
level (low risk)

 TDMMO and Ministry of Education started this project from March 2015
 The Prepared School Project has implemented in 1000 primary/secondary
schools in Tehran in two Steps:
1- first step in 400 schools
2- second step in 600 schools
Measures

 Training 400 schools managers (400 persons);
 Training 400 schools staff(8600 persons);
 Formation of 400 school disaster group
 Holding camp for 4800 high school students;
 Identification and preparing risk profile of 712 schools;
 Preparing 712 Risk Reduction Program
