Why we are
1.2. Vision: Article 1. Name and vision (from charter
draft)
Deepening our understanding of disasters and finding
implementable solutions to achieve a disaster resilient
world by integrating knowledge and technologies from
around the world.
Why we are
Article 2. Purpose
2.1 GADRI seeks to contribute to enhancing disaster risk
reduction and disaster resilience in close collaboration
among organizations around the world through sharing
of information, knowledge, experiences, ideas and
initiatives on relevant research.
Why we are
2.2 GADRI Objectives
To achieve the above purpose, GADRI has the following objectives:
(a) to establish a global research network that promotes and engages
disaster research
(b) to provide a research road map, with plans that help facilitate the
organization of disaster research groups.
(c) to promote capacity building and development of disaster research
institutes and enhances researcher and student exchange.
(d) to promote exchange and sharing of data and information for
scientific research across the globe.
(e) to serve as an advocacy organization presenting evidence-based
approaches that influence decision-making processes.
What we do
GADRI will engage in the following activities:
 Planning and organization of collaborative disaster risk research
initiatives
 Formation of international research groups to investigate current
global disasters, and implement new research methodologies for
disaster risk reduction and implementation
 Establishment of an international network for timely
communication related to research on disasters
 Organization of conferences, workshops and meetings
 Dissemination and sharing of information, publications, reports,
data and other research outputs
 Facilitation of rapid reconnaissance field surveys following
disasters
 Preparation of GADRI news releases, policy recommendations,
news bulletins, research reports, and other publications.
11.1. GADRI shall welcome funds and / or other forms of
support necessary for its work through direct or indirect
contributions, donations, grants and legacies, provided these
are in line with the vision, purpose and objectives of GADRI.
11.2. The Secretariat will prepare a budget with the available
resources for approval by the Board of Directors.

Thematic Areas
We have four thematic areas in which we have based
our projects and activities:
 Integrated Disaster Risk Management
 Atmospheric and Water Related Disasters
 Earthquake and Volcanic Disasters
 Geo‐Hazards
What we do – GADRI Projects
(1) Flagship/Cross-Cutting Projects
Projects which aims at development of methodologies, information platforms and
materials which can be shared among GADRI members.
…e.g. GADRI Disaster Effects Portal (GDEP), Risk Assessment Platform, DRR-
IMPASE “Disaster Risk Reduction Implementation Assessment”, Identification of
Standardization Need for Capacity Building in Disaster Risk Management
(2) Thematic Projects
Projects which deal with research topics to enhance collaboration between
members of GADRI who share interest in a same thematic research field.
…e.g. Natech Research, Geohazard Risk Reduction, Climate Change
Adaptation
(3) Trans-disciplinary/area-specific projects
Projects deals with case studies to solve real world problems in a specific case
study area.
…e.g. flash flood and water resource management in the Arabic region

  • 16. What we do – GADRI Projects (1) Flagship/Cross-Cutting Projects Projects which aims at development of methodologies, information platforms and materials which can be shared among GADRI members. …e.g. GADRI Disaster Effects Portal (GDEP), Risk Assessment Platform, DRR- IMPASE “Disaster Risk Reduction Implementation Assessment”, Identification of Standardization Need for Capacity Building in Disaster Risk Management (2) Thematic Projects Projects which deal with research topics to enhance collaboration between members of GADRI who share interest in a same thematic research field. …e.g. Natech Research, Geohazard Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation (3) Trans-disciplinary/area-specific projects Projects deals with case studies to solve real world problems in a specific case study area. …e.g. flash flood and water resource management in the Arabic region
