2. My Question
‘Why do people
wear designer
brands?’
Are we trying to show off…or just following the
crowd?
3. My Topic
• I have been looking into doing a Fashion documentary on designer brands, but I will
also incorporate some psychology of why people follow trends and end up wearing
these designer clothes.
• I will be focusing on the industry of fashion and the rise of designers, brands and
labels – mainly focusing on London and Paris (as they are 2 out of the 4 Fashion
Capitals of the world).
• I have found inspiration for this topic from other documentaries already made such
as ‘Absolutely Fashion: Inside British Vogue’, I found this documentary very
interesting and engaging and so would like to make my documentary on a similar
topic with a similar aesthetic and feel
4. My Talent
• I haven’t got a specific person to be my talent as the topic and nature of my
question will need to include a wide range of people (to look at who does and
doesn’t wear designer brands).
• My documentary will be more focused on looking at the general public and
interviewing people within the public to gain an insight of their views of designer
brands.
• However, I will use a specialist in Psychology (Miss D’Auria) to interview on the
psychology of people following trends and patterns with regards to Fashion.
5. Filming
Locations
• I would like to film in both London and Paris, I will
be planning day trips to both these places to get my
footage and as they are fairly easy to get to I can
always go back to get more footage if needed.
• In London I plan to film at; Oxford Street, Bond
Street, Covent Garden and maybe Regent Street as
these locations are where a lot of designer shops are
located.
• This includes Chanel, Dior and Christian
Louboutin etc.
• In Paris I plan to film at; Rue Saint Honoré, Sèvres
Babylone, Saint Germain des Prés, Triangle d’Or
and L’Avenue des Champs Élysées as they are also
locations where a lot of designer shops are located.
• This includes Hermes, Chanel, Dior and Louis
Vuitton etc.
6. Equipment and Sound
• The equipment I will need to use to film my footage is:
– Iphone 6S camera
– Fujifilm Finepix Digital Camera
– Tripod
– Selfie Stick
• For the sound of my documentary I will:
– Use a voice over to narrate
– I will record some interviews at my locations and so will record the sound with the
camera
– Also, I am thinking of using some music in the background of some shots (but I’m not
sure what music yet)
7. Documentaries I
take inspiration
from

8. What TV Channel?
• The Inside Vogue documentary was screened on BBC2,
as I am looking to take inspiration from this
documentary I think that mine will also be appropriate
to be screened on this channel.
9. Problems or Difficulties I Could Face
• Not getting enough footage in each location
– To overcome this I will make sure I organise more than one trip to film in my locations and
also film as much as I can (even if I feel it is unnecessary shots)
• Not being able to get enough interviews
– I could always interview friends or family members
• Language barriers whilst interviewing in Paris
– I could use a specialist (teacher from school) to translate and then use subtitles in the
documentary
• Sound of interviews not being loud enough
– Test the camera before to make sure it is picking up the sound
• Not having enough storage on my phone/camera
– Clear my storage on both devices before I go to my filming locations
