Purpose: Learning the different cards as an environment energizer break
Components: The Foresight Cards
“What’s in the news?"
- Create 2 teams, “Fact” and “Gossip”
- Both teams take 5 random cards, spread
them out open on the table.
The Facts Team
- Create one believable story using all the
cards that you could read in a newspaper.
The Gossips Team
- Create a story using all the cards that you
could read in a tabloid magazine.
Merge the stories using 5 new cards
of the deck

Purpose: Learning the different cards as an environment energizer break
Components: The Foresight Cards
“Designing your own country"
Create 2 teams, “the king” and “the adversary”
The Kings Team
- Take 5 random cards, create your ideal
country using at least 4 of the cards.
- When ready tell your Adversary…
- Take 3 cards, and use one to avoid conquor
or chaos
The Adversary's Team
- Take 3 cards
- Think of a way to conquer/ to create chaos
the Kings country
- Put the remaining cards away and take 3
new ones.

Components: The Foresight Cards
“Got a LINK!”
- Shuffle the cards
- First player turns a card around
- Next player turns a card around
- …
- This continues until someone sees a link
between the last 2 turned cards
- Explain the link
- When everybody agrees take the pile
- When everybody disagrees continue
- Play 50 cards
- The player who has the most; wins the
game.

This analysis tool helps to assess the external macro environment!
The Foresight Cards contains 125 macro forces classified into the STEEP categories
(social, technological, economical, environmental and political). Other known acronyms
derived from STEEP are: PEST, PESTLE, STEP, STEPJE, STEEPLED, DESTEP and LEPEST. The
STEEP acronym is well known and used all over the world as a basis for external analysis.
For example the STEEP cards can be used by individuals and groups to have workshops to:
• create awareness about past, current and future changes;
• stress test a business model;
• create a SWOT analysis;
• energize;
• tell a story;
• discuss certain (strategic) topics;
• think about systems and how external developments connect to each other;
• determine key-uncertainties to create future scenarios (scenario planning);
• etc. etc. etc.
