The seminar was held on September 12th, 2014 in Uppsala, Sweden to train coaches and experts on coordinating a game about human rights and democracy in Sweden. The game has been developed as part of a project and is presented in 5 languages. Over 30 participants attended the training, which the project coordinator deemed was crucial and done properly. The overall goal of the "Human Rights in Practice" project is to help prevent violence and strengthen human rights for newly arrived immigrants, especially women, through education and dialogue conducted by bilingual coaches from immigrant organizations.

‘HUMAN RIGHTS IN PRACTICE’ TRAINING SEMINAR FOR COACHES AND EXPERTS TOOK PLACE 12TH
OF SEPTEMBER 2014 IN UPPSALA, SWEDEN
The seminar was dedicated to teaching coaches and experts, who
work with human rights and empowerment, to coordinate the
game, which has been developed within the project. ‘Human
rights and Democracy in Sweden’ game is presented in 5
languages and distributed to organizations, working with
immigrants in Sweden.
“Training the trainers is a crucial activity, which determines the final impact of the project. And I
think we’ve managed to do it properly. I’m extremely grateful to all the participants”, - says
Yevgeniya Averhed, the deputy director of the Department for International Cooperation of
Folkuniversitetet.
The project "Human rights in practice" has the overall objectives to help streamline efforts to prevent
violence and to strengthen the newly arrived third-country nationals, especially women,
opportunities to exercise their human rights. The project will develop a training package for human
rights education and learning for intercultural dialogue in which questions about traditions in honor
cultures are in conflict with the values that form the basis of human rights conventions and Swedish
legislation. The work is done in conjunction with experts from the Police, UN Women and
representatives of immigrant organizations. Education and dialogue will be conducted by bilingual
coaches from the participating immigrant associations. Coach training is part of the project.
Participants in the test program are recruited from participating immigrant associations from the
group of newly arrived third country nationals.
