THE PORTFOLIO
• Collection of evidence to demonstrate skills, knowledge and
behaviours against the totality of the Apprenticeship Standard
• Enables the apprentice to showcase their best work
• Presented electronically
• Video, audio and photographic evidence encouraged
• Clearly referenced against the learning outcomes within the
Standard
• Provides an opportunity for the apprentice to reflect on their
learning and demonstrate how they have applied their
acquired knowledge in their workplace
• 15 days prior to assessment day
THE PORTFOLIO
CONTENTS (15-20* PIECES):
• Individual Learning Plan
• The work-based project
• Any performance reviews and work appraisals (including 360
degree feedback)
• CPD record/activities log
• A range of work based evidence
• A statement of authenticity
• Expert witness signatures (from peers and line manager)
* Recommended IFA quantity
WORK BASED PROJECT
• The project will be set and completed during the latter part of
the Apprenticeship
• Mapped to the Apprenticeship Standards (in the Portfolio) and
demonstrate knowledge, skills and behaviours
• Based on a business problem that is part of the apprentice’s
role
• Use of assumptions and consequences to demonstrate
understanding of commercial pressures and the application of
the apprentice’s thinking and problem solving skills
• University to support apprentice in liaison with their employer
• Suitable time should be set aside by the employer to enable
the apprentice to plan, undertake and write up the project

INTERVIEW
• Panel:
 Independent Apprenticeship Assessor (Chair)
 Representative* from employing organisation
 Representative* from university
(* each should have some prior knowledge of the apprentice, their project and the portfolio).
• 45 minutes (maximum)
• Designed to offer the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate
knowledge, skills and behaviours against the Standard
• Opportunity to showcase the portfolio and work-based project
and demonstrate impact on the business
• Apprentice to be supported in advance by the university and
should be encouraged to access mock questions and resources
i.e. STAR techniques in advance
QUESTIONS
• The IAA will have prepared questions using CMI’s question bank
• Example: Give an example of when you have effectively delivered an
operational plan?

 Provide information without probing and answer all questions with relevant

 Demonstrate consistent depth and breadth of knowledge of the operational plan,
relation and impact to the company’s strategic plan and evidence of effective
delivery
CMDA PRESENTATION
• 15 -25 minutes
• Focus:
 outcomes of the project
 demonstration of appropriate interpersonal and
behavioural skills
• Should describe the objectives and outputs and
demonstrate:
 what they set out to achieve
 what they have produced in the project
 how they have approached the work and dealt with any
issues
PRESENTATION ASSESSMENT
• 25 to 40 minutes Q&A following the presentation
• Questions will be structured and provided by the IAA (in
advance) based on their assessment of the work-based
project
• Panel members may ask pre-agreed questions or prepare
their own probing questions
• IAA to determine outcome, which will then be moderated by
Lead IAA within CMI before results are released
• Apprentices will also be
assessed for Chartered
Manager status
• CMI is the only End Point

THE PORTFOLIO • Collection of evidence to demonstrate skills, knowledge and behaviours against the totality of the Apprenticeship Standard • Enables the apprentice to showcase their best work • Presented electronically • Video, audio and photographic evidence encouraged • Clearly referenced against the learning outcomes within the Standard • Provides an opportunity for the apprentice to reflect on their learning and demonstrate how they have applied their acquired knowledge in their workplace • 15 days prior to assessment day

THE PORTFOLIO CONTENTS (15-20* PIECES): • Individual Learning Plan • The work-based project • Any performance reviews and work appraisals (including 360 degree feedback) • CPD record/activities log • A range of work based evidence • A statement of authenticity • Expert witness signatures (from peers and line manager) * Recommended IFA quantity

WORK BASED PROJECT • The project will be set and completed during the latter part of the Apprenticeship • Mapped to the Apprenticeship Standards (in the Portfolio) and demonstrate knowledge, skills and behaviours • Based on a business problem that is part of the apprentice’s role • Use of assumptions and consequences to demonstrate understanding of commercial pressures and the application of the apprentice’s thinking and problem solving skills • University to support apprentice in liaison with their employer • Suitable time should be set aside by the employer to enable the apprentice to plan, undertake and write up the project

COMPETENCY-BASED INTERVIEW • Panel:  Independent Apprenticeship Assessor (Chair)  Representative* from employing organisation  Representative* from university (* each should have some prior knowledge of the apprentice, their project and the portfolio). • 45 minutes (maximum) • Designed to offer the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge, skills and behaviours against the Standard • Opportunity to showcase the portfolio and work-based project and demonstrate impact on the business • Apprentice to be supported in advance by the university and should be encouraged to access mock questions and resources i.e. STAR techniques in advance

QUESTIONS • The IAA will have prepared questions using CMI’s question bank • Example: Give an example of when you have effectively delivered an operational plan? ◦ FAIL  Unable to comment ◦ PASS  Provide example of delivery on the plan  Ability to describe the plan  Clear explanation of role ◦ MERIT  Provide information without probing and answer all questions with relevant examples ◦ DISTINCTION  Demonstrate consistent depth and breadth of knowledge of the operational plan, relation and impact to the company’s strategic plan and evidence of effective delivery

CMDA PRESENTATION • 15 -25 minutes • Focus:  outcomes of the project  demonstration of appropriate interpersonal and behavioural skills • Should describe the objectives and outputs and demonstrate:  what they set out to achieve  what they have produced in the project  how they have approached the work and dealt with any issues
  • 15. PRESENTATION ASSESSMENT • 25 to 40 minutes Q&A following the presentation • Questions will be structured and provided by the IAA (in advance) based on their assessment of the work-based project • Panel members may ask pre-agreed questions or prepare their own probing questions • IAA to determine outcome, which will then be moderated by Lead IAA within CMI before results are released
  • 16. • Apprentices will also be assessed for Chartered Manager status • CMI is the only End Point Assessment Organisation who can award the CMgr acolade • Apprentice must have three years work experienceCHARTERED MANAGER
