The 4-inch GreenGrid Extensive Roof Garden System is
composed of a 4-inch layer of growth media and drought-
tolerant vegetation. The drought-tolerant vegetation is
composed mostly of colorful sedum species and other
dry habitat perennials, requiring little or no supplemental
irrigation, fertilization or maintenance. These roof

gardens are not intended for recreational uses but rather
to act as a visually pleasing and functional roof extensions
wherein the building owner will achieve the benefits
associated with green roofs e.g., reduction of temperature
extremes on the roof, prevention of mechanical damage to
the roof, reduction of noise transmission into the building,
increased energy efficiency and, most importantly, storm
                    water management.

The GreenGrid Extensive Roof Garden System is also lightweight, approximately 15 pounds per square foot (wet),
and weighs just slightly more than a conventional ballasted roof.*

                    GREENGRID
                    INTENSIVE ROOF GARDEN
                                                                                                                ®

The 8-inch GreenGrid Intensive Roof Garden System was
designed for more elaborate rooftop gardens. These
rooftop gardens are generally intended for access and
thus must have the structural capacity for the associated
live loads. The 8-inch depth GreenGrid System allows for
a larger selection of plants, including ornamental

perennials, annuals and small shrubs. With the addition of
paver pathways, edge treatments and other architectural
features, the resulting rooftop garden becomes a beautiful
and dramatic new usable space. Dependent upon plant
selection, a supplemental drip irrigation system,
fertilization and maintenance are generally necessary to
maintain a rooftop garden, just as they would be for a
perennial garden in the backyard. The average weight of
an 8-inch GreenGrid Intensive Roof Garden System is
approximately 28 pounds per square foot (wet).*

GreenGrid Extensive Roof Garden System

  • 1. 4 ” A S S E M B L Y CARLISLE’S G R E E N G R I D GREENGRID EXTENSIVE ROOF GARDEN ® The 4-inch GreenGrid Extensive Roof Garden System is composed of a 4-inch layer of growth media and drought- tolerant vegetation. The drought-tolerant vegetation is composed mostly of colorful sedum species and other dry habitat perennials, requiring little or no supplemental irrigation, fertilization or maintenance. These roof C A R L I S L E gardens are not intended for recreational uses but rather to act as a visually pleasing and functional roof extensions wherein the building owner will achieve the benefits associated with green roofs e.g., reduction of temperature extremes on the roof, prevention of mechanical damage to the roof, reduction of noise transmission into the building, increased energy efficiency and, most importantly, storm water management. The GreenGrid Extensive Roof Garden System is also lightweight, approximately 15 pounds per square foot (wet), and weighs just slightly more than a conventional ballasted roof.* The following are a few suggested plant species (USDA Hardiness Zones 4-8) for use in the 4-inch GreenGrid Extensive Roof Garden System: Species Mature Height (in) Mature Width (in) Flower Color Months in Bloom Allium schoenoprasum ´Forescate` 12-18 18-24 Pink May Sedum acre 2-3 12-18 Yellow June Sedum album 3-6 12-18 White JJ Sedum album ´Coral Carpet` 3-6 12-18 White JJ Sedum ´Bailey’s Gold` 3-6 12-18 Yellow JJA Sedum cauticola ´Lidakense` 8-12 6-8 Pink AS Sedum hybridum ´Immergrunchen` 3-6 18-24 Yellow JJ Sedum kamtschaticum 6-8 12-18 Yellow MJJA Sedum reflexum 6-8 12-18 Yellow July Sedum rupestre ´Forsteranum` 3-7 12-18 Yellow JJ Sedum sexangular 6-8 6-8 Yellow JJ Sedum spurium ´Dragon’s Blood` 3-6 12-18 Rose red JJ Sedum spurium ´Fuldaglut` 3-6 12-12 Ruby red JJ Sedum ternatum 6-8 12-18 White May Sedum X ´Vera Jameson` 8-12 12-18 Magenta August Sempervivum tectorum 3-6 3-6 Red July Sempervivum tomentosum 3-6 3-6 Pink July Note: All standard orders contain a variety of five pre-selected sedum species. • 2. 8 ” A S S E M B L Y CARLISLE’S G R E E N G R I D GREENGRID INTENSIVE ROOF GARDEN ® The 8-inch GreenGrid Intensive Roof Garden System was designed for more elaborate rooftop gardens. These rooftop gardens are generally intended for access and thus must have the structural capacity for the associated live loads. The 8-inch depth GreenGrid System allows for a larger selection of plants, including ornamental C A R L I S L E perennials, annuals and small shrubs. With the addition of paver pathways, edge treatments and other architectural features, the resulting rooftop garden becomes a beautiful and dramatic new usable space. Dependent upon plant selection, a supplemental drip irrigation system, fertilization and maintenance are generally necessary to maintain a rooftop garden, just as they would be for a perennial garden in the backyard. The average weight of an 8-inch GreenGrid Intensive Roof Garden System is approximately 28 pounds per square foot (wet).* The following are a few suggested plant species (USDA Hardiness Zones 4-8) for use in the 8-inch GreenGrid Intensive Roof Garden System: Species Mature Height (in) Mature Width (in) Flower Color Months in Bloom Allium cernuum 12-18 8-12 Pink JJ Allium schoenoprasum ´Forescate` 12-18 18-24 Pink May Allium tanguticum ´Summer Beauty` 12-18 12-18 Purple JA Anemone cylindrica 18-24 8-12 White JJ Aster novae-angliae ´Purple Dome` 15-24 18-24 Purple SO Bouteloua curtipendula 24-36 12-18 N/A N/A Calamagrostis acutiflora ´Karl Foerster` 36-48 36-48 N/A N/A Dalea purpurea 24-36 8-12 Purple AMJJ Geum triflorum 12-18 12-18 Pink MAMJ Heuchera richardsonii 12-18 12-18 White MJ Juniperus horizontalis 6-8 varies N/A N/A Liatris aspera 24-36 12-18 Lavender AS Penstemon digitalis ´Husker Red` 24-36 12-18 White MJJ Phlox paniculata 36-48 18-24 Many JA Rudbeckia fulgida ´Goldsturm` 24-36 18-24 Yellow JJAS Rudbeckia hirta 24-36 12-18 Yellow JA Salvia x superba ´May Night` 18-20 18-24 Purple MJJ Sedum ´Bertram Anderson` 3-6 3-6 Pink JJAS Sedum spectabile ´Autumn Joy` 18-24 18-24 Red AS Sporobolus heterolepis 24-36 36-48 N/A N/A Stachys byzantina ´Big Ears` 12-18 24-36 N/A N/A Tradescantia ohiensis 24-36 12-18 Blue JJASO Note: All standard orders contain a variety of five pre-selected sedum species.
