630 mining plots to be auctioned from Dec 6
E-AUCTION ON PORTAL OF CENTRAL GOVERNMENT

Jaipur: The Depart-
ment of Mines has
started the e-auction
process of mining plots
at 35 places in 21 dis-
tricts of Rajasthan. Ad-
ditional Chief Secre-
tary (Mines) Dr Sub-
odh Agarwal informed
that the e-auction of
630 mining plots will
take place from Decem-
ber 6 to February 17,
2023, through the e-
platform of the Gov-
ernment of India.
“The Mines Depart-
ment has earmarked
630 plots for auction of
minor minerals like
granite, quartz, feld-
spar, sandstone, silica
sand, masonry stone,
china clay, and marble
among others. As per
the directions of CM
Ashok Gehlot, legal
mining is being pro-
moted by auctioning
mining plots in large
numbers,” said ACS Dr
Subodh Agarwal.
“To maintain trans-
parency & competition
in auction, Mines Min
Pramod Jain Bhaya
has given instructions
for large-scale publici-
ty of e-auctioning pro-

was signed between
JDA and JMRC on
Thursday to resolve the
long-pending dispute of
Metro Enclave located
on B2 Bypass.

signed the agreement in
presence of Principal
Secretary of UDH, Kun-
ji Lal Meena.
The agreement was
finally executed after a
series of deliberations
were held over terms &
conditions between the
two govt bodies. Offi-
cials informed that
JMRC will soon trans-
fer the land of JDA, fol-
lowing which, lease
deeds will be issued to
investors. “JDA will
pay Rs 318 cr to JMRC
in lieu of transfer of
land. JMRC was allot-
ted 1.48 L sqmtrs,” in-
formed an official.

Two brothers were at-

died. Police put up

linked to the Adarsh Ta-
padia murder case. In-

After the death of Ibrahim, his family mem-
bers and other people created ruckus at the
hospital. The mob started vandalizing. Police
tried to calm them. The protesters demanded
Rs 50 lakh for the family of the deceased and
government job and Rs 10 lakh to the injured.
After an uproar for about half-an-hour, the po-
lice chased them out of the hospital. After the
firing, there has been an atmosphere of tension
in Bhilwara. Police force has been deployed
across the city.

Thursday due to a gravel-laden tractor running uncontrolla-

the auto died on the spot. At the same time, a woman died
during treatment at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. After the in-

Assam and Meghalaya were to
start their second round of talks
to resolve their boundary dis-
pute when six people were killed
in firing by the Assam police.
Five of those killed belonged to
Meghalaya. Assam Chief Minis-
ter Himanta Biswa Sarma de-
nied the incident had anything
to do with the dispute over 12
stretches of their long border.
The dispute had been resolved
in six of these areas in March.

SPOTLIGHT ON QATAR,
BUT ALSO BRINGS ATTENTION TO ITS
HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD AND POLITICS
ith the start of the World Cup
on November 20, 2022, soccer
teams from 32 countries and
tens of thousands of fans
have converged on Qatar, a
tiny Arab country on a pen-
insula in the Persian Gulf.
But search “Qatar 2022” on-
line, and the first nonsport
results are about the coun-
try’s human rights issues.
Like its fellow oil-rich Arab
countries, Qatar has enjoyed
immense wealth that nur-
tured grand ambitions of eco-
nomic growth among rulers
and citizens alike. Qatar and
its neighbors, including Bah-
rain and the United Arab
Emirates,havebroughtinmil-
lions of workers from other
countriestosupporttheirfast-
growing cities and businesses
over the past few decades.
In particular, about 30,000
workers came from Bangla-
desh, India and Nepal to con-
struct the World Cup stadi-
ums. At least 37 died, accord-
ing to official Qatari counts,
while building the US$220
billion infrastructure for the
games.
I am a political scientist
and legal scholar of the Mid-
dle East who has lived and
worked in Qatar. Given the
sudden media focus on the
country, I think it helpful for
both World Cup fans and peo-
ple who don’t know a soccer
ball from a hockey puck to
understand four aspects of
Qatar’s politics that relate to
its human rights challenges.
1. QATAR IS RULED BY
A POPULAR KING
A sparsely populated country
in a desert, Qatar gained inde-
pendence from Great Britain
in 1971. With its large oil and
natural gas reserves, Qatar
has the highest income per
citizen in the world. Qatar’s
ruler is popular among citi-
zens.SheikhTamimbinHam-
ad Al Thani is part a family
dynasty that has run the ar-
ea’s politics since the 1800s,
even under Ottoman and Brit-
ish control. This makes Qatar
one of eight Arab countries
governedbyhereditarykings.
2. YES – WORKERS’
RIGHTS HAVE BEEN A
PROBLEM
Doha, the capital of Qatar,
has become a major media,
educational, diplomatic and
recreational hub over the
past few decades. Its break-
neck development also re-
quired workers from all over
the world. As a result, foreign
workers make up about 85%
of the country’s total popula-
tion, but they do not have the
same rights as Qatari citi-
zens. Qatari natives have
been reluctant to share their
extraordinary social welfare
benefits, like free medical
care, with millions of work-
ers from abroad. This makes
for a system that gives many
more rights to Qatari nation-
als than the millions of oth-
ers who live there.
3. YET QATAR HAS
MADE MAJOR REFORMS
While workers’ rights have
received appropriate West-
ern media attention, Qatar’s
direct efforts to respond to
local and international activ-
ism are less known. Qatar
enacted the most significant
labor rights reforms in the
Arab world in 2021.
4. AND WESTERN
CRITIQUES MAY
CONCEAL OTHER
AGENDAS
Qatari officials have suggest-
ed that international atten-
tion to foreign workers’ con-
ditions is part of a broader
pattern of Westerners belit-
tling Arabs and Muslims.
One blatant example is an
October issue of the French
right-wing satirical maga-
zine “Le Canard enchaîné,”
which depicted Qatari soccer
players as terrorists.
Calls in some parts of Eu-
rope for a widespread World
Cup boycott add fuel to this
and other arguments that the
European and American im-
pressionof Qatarishypocriti-
calandpossiblyIslamophobic.
Though hardly a neutral ob-
server, Gianni Infantino, the
president of FIFA, which car-
riesouttheWorldCup,reflect-
ed many Gulf Arabs’ views
when he argued that Europe’s
history of exploiting Middle
Easterners and others gives it
little moral high ground on is-
sues of non-Western rights.

Ahmedabad (PTI): A
total of 167 candidates,
out of 788 contesting the
89 seats in the first
phase of Gujarat As-
sembly elections, have
criminal cases against
them, with 100 of them
facing serious charges
like murder and rape, a
report by the Associa-
tion for Democratic Re-
forms (ADR) said on
Thursday
.
With this, 21 per cent
of the candidates in
fray have criminal cas-
es against them, while
13 per cent are facing
serious charges.
The Aam Aadmi Par-
ty (AAP), which is con-
testing 88 seats out of
the total 89, tops this list
among major political
parties in the fray with
36 per cent of its candi-
dates having criminal
cases. Thirty per cent
of its candidates are
facing serious cases
such as murder, rape,
assault, kidnapping,
among others, the ADR
said in its report. The
number of candidates
having criminal cases
fielded by the AAP is 32.
The Arvind Kejriwal-
led party is followed by
the Congress, which
has fielded 35 per cent
of its candidates with
criminal cases. Twenty
per cent of such candi-
dates are facing serious
cases. The grand old
party is contesting all
89 seats in the first
phase and the number
of candidates with
criminal cases fielded
by it is 31, the ADR re-
port further said.
The ruling BJP,
which is also contesting
all seats in the first
phase of the election,
has fielded 14 candi-
dates with criminal re-
cords. Percentagewise,
such candidates ac-
count for 16 per cent of
its total number and 12
per cent are facing seri-
ous charges, the ADR
said in its report.
The Bharatiya Tribal
Party
, which is contest-
ing14seatsinfirstphase,
has four candidates (29
per cent) with declared
criminal cases. A total
seven per cent of its can-
didates have serious
criminal cases this time.

reason is Pabubha Manek,
an MLA who has not lost a
single election in the last 32
years. BJP has entrusted
Manek, to win the seat
for the party for the third
straight time. Pabubha
Manek, who has never lost
an election since 1990, won

and won the seat in 2002.

has issued new guide-
lines on grooming for
its male and female
cabin crew, including
barring them from
sporting black and reli-
gious thread on the
wrist, neck and ankle.
Among others, the
airline has told the crew
that they should not
have grey hair and must
be regularly coloured in
natural shade.
“Religious rings
with coloured stones
and pearls, nose-pins
and neck jewellery”
along with thumb
rings are not allowed.
“Black and religious
thread on wrist, neck
and ankle are strictly
not permitted,” as per
the guidelines.
According to the air-
line, a bald look is al-
lowed for the crew.
“Crew with deep re-
ceding hairline and
male balding patches
must keep a clean
shaved head/ bald look.
Head must be shaved
daily. Crew cut is not
permitted,” it added.
Further, the airline
said that grey hair is
not permitted and must
be regularly coloured in
a natural shade. “Fash-
ion colours and heena
are not permitted”.
A query sent to Air

A man in Karnataka’s
Davanagere district was ar-
rested on Thursday for al-
legedly killing his 6-month
pregnant wife and burying
her body in the jungle – in
a pit, he had prepared
much earlier, police said.
The accused is identified as
Mohan Kumar, 25, a resi-
dent of Gangondanahalli
near Channagiri town near
Davanagere. Police have
launched a hunt for the
parents of Mohan, who are
on the run. The deceased
woman was identified as
21-year-old Chandrakala
aka Rashmi.

Excise teams on Thursday
conducted raids on agri-
cultural farms cultivating
marijuana in Yadgir district.
The raids were conducted
in four locations — three
in Ullesugur village and
one in Evoor village in
Surapura taluq of Yadgir —
and two persons have been
taken into custody in this
connection. The authorities
have also seized three kg of
dry marijuana and another
three kg of fresh marijua-
na. The investigations have
revealed that the accused
used to prepare marijuana
and stored and sold it to

cept Pilot. The high
command will do jus-
tice to Rajasthan. I

high command. It is
necessary for the gov-
ernment to be formed
in Rajasthan. I have
been CM thrice. It is
not necessary for me to
be CM. Get a survey
done that if the gov-
ernment can be formed

then keep them.”
When being asked
about any quarrel with
Sachin Pilot, Gehlot
said, “When Congress
won 20 MPs from Ra-
jasthan in the Lok Sab-
ha elections in 2009, I
was called to Delhi.

held, I was asked about
making a minister
fromRajasthan.Sachin
Pilot is aware, I had rec-
ommended making Pi-
lot a minister at the
Centre. At that time 70
Gurjars were killed in
Vasundhara Raje’s gov-

Gurjar-Meenas. Later I
got a call from Sachin
Pilot to recommend
him, whereas I had al-
ready recommended. A
man who has love in
his heart, only then
will he recommend the
young man.”
The chief minister
further added, “I have
no tensions. There are
slight differences eve-
rywhere. There was no
mutiny on 25 Septem-
ber. There was a rebel-
lion in 2019, we stayed
in hotels for 34 days.
On September 25, 90
people gathered, these
were the people who
helped save the gov-
ernment, otherwise
the government could
not have survived. No
CM can save the gov-
ernment without the
high command.”
Gehlot said that
there is no Chief Min-
ister of the Congress
who would take the
support of the MLAs
without the high com-
mand. How can our
MLAs accept the per-
son who betrayed the
party? “It was spread
that Sachin Pilot is be-
ing made the CM. Pilot
himself behaved as if
he was going to become
the CM. He called
many MLAs that ob-
servers are coming,
and told them what
they had to tell the ob-
servers. In this situa-
tion the MLA got con-
fused that Pilot was
taking oath on the sec-
ond day of the Legisla-
ture Party meeting.
That’s why 90 MLAs
had gathered. They are
all loyal and are with
the high command. The
rebel MLAs had gone
with Pilot in Manesar.
The pro-Pilot MLAs
were stopped in the re-
sort where the Madhya
Pradesh MLAs were ac-
commodated. We could
not expect the then
party president to join
forces with the opposi-
tion to topple his own

when he was the state party
chief. “Still, the Congress
president gave him another
chance to become CM.
Today the priority should be
on how we can again win
the Rajasthan election,” he
said. “Rahul Gandhi is on
Bharat Jodo Yatra and we
all need to jointly make the
yatra successful,” he add-
ed. Reacting to the similar
incident, senior Congress
leader Jairam Ramesh has
also condemned CM Ge-
hlot’s remark and said that
the differences should be
resolved in a manner that
strengthens the Congress.
Sachin Pilot reached Madhya Pradesh on Thursday and joined
the yatra with Rahul Gandhi. Priyanka Gandhi was also seen
with him. All pending issues in Rajasthan will be resolved soon
after the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the former Deputy CM said.

Millets are far more
nutrient dense than
wheat and rice. They
are tasty and easily
available. Since they
are highly under-con-
sumed, we should make
efforts to incorporate
them into our daily
menus in the form of
rotis, bread or other
food preparations.
Millets like sorghum
(jowar), pearl millet
(bajra), or barley have
always been stereo-
typed as grains for
the underprivi-
leged. They are
a s s o c i a t e d
with either
seed given to
birds or thick
rotis to eat for a
rural event or a
dish to be had
occasionally.
Fortunately,
millets are
gradually ac-
quiring impor-
tance. People are
more and more
becoming aware of the
nutritional benefits of
millet. Plus, seeing
them on the racks of
health stores has mo-
tivated many a per-
son to consume mil-
let more frequently.
If we were to draw
a bar graph compar-
ing the nutrient con-
tent of millets and
wheat or rice, the mil-
let bar would tower to
a much greater extent.
For example, the calci-
um content in finger
millet (ragi) is nearly
350mg for 100g whereas
in wheat and rice it is
even below 50mg.
A few millets are eat-
en in the form of grains
but most are pounded
into flour and then
used to make a range of
dishes. Although add-
ing bran and soy flour
to wheat would give it
extra fibre and protein
it will not increase the
content of minerals
and B vitamins. Nutri-
tionists are now
advising their
clients to con-
sume multi-
grain flour rotis
and bread or
switch to millet
because of their
high nutrient den-
sity. Due to the high
fibre content, they also
aid in healthy weight
loss. For example, in-
stead of two wheat
chappatis, one can eas-
ily do with consuming
just one bajra roti or
one multi-flour chapa-
tti with added bran.
Nowadays a range of
bread made from mil-
lets and premixed
flours of jowar, bajra,
wheat, Bengal gram
flour, and soya are also
available. We just need
to know their nutrient
content to motivate
ourselves to consume
them on daily basis.
