New Delhi: PM Nar-
endra Modi has nomi-
nated WB Governor
Jagdeep Dhankhar as
India’s next Vice Pres-
idential candidate
from the National
Democratic Alliance
(NDA) in a political
move that also helped
stave off a political
war in West Bengal.
Confirming this a
senior BJP leader
said, “Assam CM Him-
anta Biswa Sarma,
who played right hand
man right through
HM Shah’s political
gambit to topple MVA
govt in Maharashtra
was at it again over
last 3 days, this time to
oblige Mamata Ban-
nerji led TMC in WB.
Dhankhar, who has
been at loggerheads
with TMC govt in WB
for a while Biswah,
met with Bannerjee
and Biswa over the
last three days where
Assam CM, playing
emissary to PM Modi,
informed Didi of Gov-
ernor being relieved
of his charge of WB.”
Jagdeep
Dhankhar Ji has
excellent knowl-
edge of our Constitution.
He is also well-versed
with legislative affairs. I
am sure that he will be an
outstanding Chair in the
Rajya Sabha & guide the
proceedings of the House

While the united op-

of former BJP leader
Yashwant Sinha as
their nominee for the
presidential elections
slated for July 18, Mur-
mu’s candidature took
the wind out of their
sails. Even Trinamool
Congress chief Mamata
Bannerjee was forced to
backtrack, was the first
to state that she would
have positively consid-
ered the BJP nominee,
had the party an-
nounced Murmu’s can-
didature earlier.

Mumbai: The secular political coalition comprising Shiv
Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress
is over. This development has risen amid Congress’
claims of contesting civic body polls in Mumbai, Pune
and Nagpur alone. A senior Congress leader said, “The
Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was specifically created to
keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power
in Maharashtra. It was not a ‘forever’ alliance. In fact,
during the Democratic Front (DF) alliance with NCP
(1999 to 2014), the Congress fought local body elections
separately.” According to sources, the Congress party’s
view on the forthcoming civic elections to 23 major
municipal corporations in Maha does not reconcile an
MVA alliance.

BJP's central leader-
ship of imposing
their ideology on
state governments
run by non-BJP par-
ties. If these govern-
ments do not toe the

Pawar said.
Last month, the

gress coalition gov-
ernment in Maha-

ty's MLAs.
Pawar said, earlier
in Madhya Pradesh
and Karnataka, non-
BJP governments

tions, and the BJP
cametopowerinboth
the states.
In the same way,
“Those in power in
Delhi decided to take
away power from a
government that was
running well in Ma-
harashtra,” the NCP
supremo said.
The message was
“Do as we tell you and
accept our ideology
or we would not let a
democratic govern-
ment function. But
such things do not
last....wherever au-
tocracy took over in
the world, it did not

.
Deshmukh, who has
been voicing for crea-
tion of a separate Vid-

each should have aver-
age of 4.90 crore people.
 Many states formed
next to Maharashtra are
progressing rapidly,
while a prosperous re-
gion like Vidharbha
struggles for basic
amenities. The neigh-
bouring states are wit-
nessing all around pro-
gress such as doubling

creased irrigation, bet-
ter health facilities, edu-
cation, law and order,
roads, living standards,

, al-
ternative employment,
he said.

mukh said, “Since BJP
hassupportedformation
of smaller states, it is a
humble request that the
concept of 75@75 should
be started with the for-
mation of Vidarbha as
the 30th state and you
(the PM), should an-
nounce it in his speech/
address to the nation on
this 15th August.”
Mumbai (PTI): The
Eknath Shinde-led
government in Maha-
rashtra on Saturday
granted cabinet ap-
proval to rename Au-
rangabad and Os-
manabad cities as
Chhatrapati Samb-
hajinagar and Dhar-
ashiv respectively.
The decision to re-
name these cities was
taken in the previous
Maha Vikas Aghadi
(MVA) government’s
last cabinet meeting
chaired by then Chief
Minister Uddhav
Thackeray on June 29,
just before he resigned.
However, incumbent
CM Shinde and Deputy
Chief Minister Deven-
dra Fadnavis, who were
sworn in on June 30,
had said the Thackeray-
led dispensation’s deci-
sion to rename these
places was illegal. They
had reasoned that it
was taken after the gov-
ernor had asked it to
prove majority in the
state Legislative As-
sembly
.
During the cabinet
meeting chaired by
Thackeray last month,
Aurangabad was re-
named as Sambhajina-
gar, but the Shinde gov-
ernment on Saturday
added the ‘Chhatrapati’
prefix to it.
Currently, Shinde
and Fadnavis are the
only two members in
the cabinet as its expan-
sion is still pending.
A statement from
the Chief Minister’s
Office (CMO) said,
“The fresh proposal
approved by the cabi-
net will be sent to the
Centre, after which the
renaming of both the
cities will be done at
the divisional, district,
taluka, municipal cor-
poration as well as
council levels.”
Meanwhile, the Shiv
Sena held a protest in
Aurangabad saying
that the Shinde gov-
ernment’s move of giv-
ing a cabinet approval
to the decision that
was already taken by
the Thackeray-led dis-
pensation was only
meant for taking the
credit.
Further, Maharash-
tra Legislative Council
member Ambadas
Danve, part of the
Thackeray group in the
Sena, said that the
Eknath Shinde govern-
ment in Maharashtra
wanted to lengthen the
process of renaming
Aurangabad.
“The addition to the
name would require
more and fresh nods
from the Centre and
these would take time,”
he stated.

Mumbai: Shiv Sena
President and former
Chief Minister, Ud-
dhav Thackeray, is
planning to under-
take a whirlwind tour
of Maharashtra to
meet party workers,
and visit units across
the state soon, said
party sources on Sat-
urday
.
Over the next few
days, Thackeray will
tour several districts to
rebuild the party from
the ground up after the
recent split within its
ranks. “The exact dates
and his itinerary are
still being worked out at
the moment but, he will
hit the streets as he
showed on Friday (re-
ferring to Thackeray’s
visit to Sena’s Byculla
branch),” said a Sena
leader.
Uddhav’s son and for-
mer state Environment
Minister, Aaditya
Thackeray, is also ex-
pected to travel with
him.
The former CM—who
was repeatedly accused
of running the govern-
ment without visiting
the Mantralaya (state
secretariat)—attempted
to seemingly overturn
that assessment by pay-
ing a visit to the Sena’s
shakha number 208 in
Byculla on Friday, after
two party activists were
attacked by unidenti-
fied people. Thackeray
not only mingled with
party workers, but also
slammed local police for
not being able to protect
Sena workers.
“If you are not able to
protect our workers,
then tell us. Shiv sainiks
willprotectthem.Youdo
not meddle in politics,
we will handle that,” he
told local police officials
sternly
. He also asked
them to record the state-
ments of suspects point-
ed out by the workers
who were attacked.
The vertical split in
the Shiv Sena has left
the Uddhav camp with
just 15 MLAs while 41
MLAs have joined the
Eknath Shinde’s group
of rebels. The split has
also substantially cost
the faction its strength
of elected councillors in
most of the municipal
corporations in Mum-
bai Metropolitan Re-
gion (MMR).
It is also playing out
in rural regions of Ma-
harashtra and will have
an impact on the rural
and semi-urban local
bodies which are sched-
uled to go to polls later
this month.

This comes after
heavy showers were
witnessed in Konkan,
parts of western Maha-

the bigger reservoirs
registered an increase
in water stock, many
smaller water reser-

July witnessed heavy
rain showers across the
state leading to increase
in the water supply in
the dams, the data
pointed out, because of
which, the water stock
jumped as high as 16%
during the fortnight.
“A comparison be-

T
ndia’s strategic
importance for
the United States
and its allies was
never rated as
high as it is now. Earlier, the
US was busy strengthening
Pakistan with financial and
military aid until 9/11 hap-
pened. The collapse of the
twin towers jolted White
House of its reverie to realise
that Pakistan was, and is, a
cradle of terrorists who were
not averse to striking at the
heart of America. Once this
realization dawned and the
China-Pakistan axis came
into focus, the US turned its
attention towards India
which was emerging as an
economic power in the sub-
continent. India’s huge un-
tapped market, relatively
high ease of doing business
and receding threat of terror-
ism became New Delhi’s USP
.
China also played a role in
this change of attitude. Bei-
jing’s expansionist designs
in the South China Sea, on
Taiwan, its encircling of
Australia and the threat
posed to Japan, eventually
led to the formation of QUAD
which would have remained
incomplete without India. In-
dia’s compulsion to maintain
healthy ties with the West
were also driven by China’s
greedy eyes on its territory
.
The stumbling block in In-
dia’stieswiththeWestwasits
dependence on Russia for its
weapons supply, although it
did not restrict its purchases
from Moscow as it has been
buying weapons from France,
UK and US as well. After the
Ukraine war when Washing-
tonimposedsanctionsonRus-
sia, doubts arose over India’s
deal for the S-400 Russian mis-
sile system. However, the US
House of Representatives cit-
ed the “China threat” to allow
sanctions waiver. The legisla-
tion now goes to the Senate.

I
hoosing an education system
is a very important decision
for a parent and a decision
should be made considering
individual’s preferences, a
child’s strengths, a parents
constraints and a school’s
ecosystem.
The national board of
CBSE teaches one of the larg-
est cohorts of students in the
world and provides compre-
hensive education that is af-
fordable. It prepares children
for most competitive exami-
nations that are conducted in
the country and the syllabus
of the national level entrance
examinations are in sync
with CBSE to a great extent.
Students aiming at pursuing
a career in Engineering or
Medicine in India should pre-
fer this board, as the syllabi
and pattern of Indian en-
trance examinations in these
two domains are aligned to
the CBSE curriculum. With
the New National Education
Policy, various options in
subjects combinations, vari-
ety of assessments and a
more hands on approach to
learning have become a part
of the CBSE. With project
based learning and learning
through the arts, the curric-
ula has become quite dynam-
ic and well rounded.
Anothergreatadvantageof
the CBSE is that schools offer-
ing this board are spread
across the breath and length
of the country making it ac-
cessible for one and all. IB
Diploma programme is a bril-
liant combination of breadth,
depth, and flexibility
. It is a
comprehensive and balanced
curriculum which allows stu-
dents to choose subjects from
several different streams-sci-
ence, humanities, commerce,
and fine arts. Students study
six eclectic subjects which
opens more college and ca-
reer choices for them as com-
pared to what they are com-
pelled to choose after having
studied only one stream. But
despite the structured frame-
work of picking subjects from
6 groups, the DP provides a
great deal of flexibility, ac-
commodating and enhancing
student interests and abili-
ties. It allows students to cus-
tomise their subjects as per
their college majors.
The pedagogy and assess-
ment styles are very different
in IB as it assesses more than
just academic skills. While
other curricula focus on facts
and information IB focuses
on knowledge; while in most
exams test technical memory
wherein students regurgitate
crammed facts, IB students
analyse, evaluate and apply
concepts. I have no doubt that
almost all pre-university
courses available to students
in India purvey similar facts,
but while all other curricula
focus on what to learn only
IB teaches how to apply
learning which goes far be-
yond exams and classrooms
and holds students in good
stead not just in colleges and
careers but in lives as well.
The world is changing at an
unbelievablespeedandeduca-
tion needs to revamp itself to
churn out not academicians
but innovators, risk-takers
and problem solvers whose
EQ is as much, if not more,
developed than IQ. That is, in
essence,whattheIBDPdoesto
students. I have always been
usingandhearingthephrases
such as higher order thinking
skills or holistic education,
but I have truly seen them
manifested in IB curriculum.
Along with the academic
subjects, the students study
the IBDP core which for me is
the heart and soul of the pro-
gramme and the biggest fac-
tor that distinguishes IBDP
from other curricula. The
core builds immensely essen-
tial skill and traits in the stu-
dents because through the
Extended Essay they under-
take independent research in
asubjectof theirchoicewhich
gives IB student an edge over
the others when they have to
do college projects and write
research papers in college.
Creativity Activity Service
programme (CAS) gives stu-
dents opportunities to be-
come sensitive and to lean out
of comfort zones as they dis-
cern global problems and pos-
sible solution. These quali-
ties shape students into glob-
ally aware young adults who
have learned to balance aca-
demic, personal and social
responsibilities, who have
the skills to transcend teach-
er-dependent learning which
is common in other curricula
and become independent and
lifelong learners.
Having pursued IBDP
teaches students time man-
agement, teamwork and tech-
nological proficiency all of
which make the transition to
collegemuchsmootherandef-
ficient. Besides these intangi-
ble benefits, IBDP also allows
students to earn college cred-
its or semester hours which
cansavethemtimeandmoney
.
With an ocean of informa-
tion just a mouse click away,
educators have to redefine
pedagogy or become redun-
dant; therefore, dynamism is
the defining trait of not just
IB students but also IB educa-
tors. The quality assurance
and high standards main-
tained by IB ensures that
teachers keep themselves up-
dated through various kinds
of professional development
opportunities so that they
are fully equipped to engage,
enable, and empower the in-
quisitive minds. One can of-
ten see IB educators initiate
discussions and then let the
students take control.
A typical IBDP classroom
has students huddled in
groups instead of the usual
linear seating arrangements.
Collaborative learning, peer-
mentoring,flippedclassrooms
and student-led classes are
some of the invigoratingly dif-
ferent classroom scenarios.
Besides this IB educators rec-
ognise that students have di-
verse learning styles and dif-
ferent strengths. Rather than
teach and test everyone using
oneyardstick,IBeducatorsre-
joice in and encourage differ-
ences-designing customised
assessments that celebrate
process rather than products.

Raipur: Chhattisgarh

locked in a turf war with
CM Bhupesh Baghel, on
Saturday resigned from
Panchayat and Rural devel-
opment department, hinting
that he was sidelined in the
government though he will
continue to hold the other
four portfolios. The devel-

ahead of state polls in the
Congress-ruled state. Singh
Deo will, however, remain
the minister for Health
Family Welfare, Medical
Education, 20-Point Imple-

The development is seen as
the fallout of an old political
rivalry between Baghel and
Singh Deo, who had tried
to project him as CM in the
past.
Bengaluru: While Karnataka Police are probing the unnatu-
ral death case of civil contractor Santosh Patil, the victim’s
wife has shot off a letter to Karnataka Governor Thawar
Chand Gehlot alleging that the probe is heading in the direc-
tion ascertained by former BJP minister KS Eshwarappa.
In a letter, Santosh’s wife Jayashree Santosh Patil said that
she was taken aback by the statements of Eshwarappa who
said that he will come out clean in another 15 days. “When
the probe is still underway, how can the minister confident-
ly say that he will come out clean? Are the police investigat-

your intervention,” she said in the letter to Gehlot.
Singapore: Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu stormed into
the Singapore Open final with a straightforward win over
Japanese shuttler Saena Kawakami 21-15, 21-7. Sindhu
swept away the competition in a game that lasted just over
half an hour. Sindhu came into the match as India’s only
remaining contestant in the tournament and made quick
work of her Japanese opponent. The Indian picked up some
quick points to establish a lead, but the Japanese player
wasn’t ready to surrender yet as she remained on the tails
of Sindhu and even managed to peg the Hyderabadi girl
back a couple of times as she levelled at 12-all.

Naresh Sharma
Jaipur: CJI NV Ra-

there used to be mu-

New project investments jump nearly 24% to `3.64 lakh cr
Mumbai (PTI): Led by
private sector capital
expenditure, new pro-
ject investments rose
23.7% to `3.64 lakh
crore in the June quar-
ter compared to the
year-ago period, ac-
cording to a report.
However, the amount
is 38.5% lower com-
pared to the fourth
quarter of the last fi-
nancial year.
In the last quarter
of FY22, project in-
vestments soared
130.2% on an annual
basis to `5.91 lakh
crore, Brickwork Rat-
ings said in a report.
New project invest-
ments steadily declined
since the onset of the
pandemic and im-
proved only in the
fourth quarter of FY22.
However, the uncer-
tainties due to the pro-
longed Russia-Ukraine
war and the resultant
sanctions as well as
continued chip short-
ages and the rising in-
terest rate scenario
have dampened invest-
ment sentiment.
It is reflected in the
number of new pro-
jects announced in the
first quarter of this
fiscal which has more
than halved to 247
from 545 in the previ-
ous quarter, the re-
port said.
Similarly, the num-
ber of new projects
proposed by the gov-
ernment also dropped
to 59, amounting to
just `32,700 crore while
the number of new
projects announced by
the private sector rose
to 188, with a pro-
posed investments of
`3.3 lakh crore in the
June quarter.
In the fourth quar-
ter of FY22, the pri-
vate capital expendi-
ture was at `3.9 lakh
crore while that of
government stood at
`2.1 lakh crore.
The government has
budgeted `7.5 lakh
crore in capital expend-
iture for FY23, which is
24.5 per cent more
than the revised esti-
mates for FY22.

Mumbai: With the arrest of two men, Mumbai
Police have busted a gang that purchased and
sold stolen mobile phones, an official said. On
Friday, Unit 6 of the Mumbai crime branch raided
Maharashtra Nagar in suburban Mankhurd and
seized at least 480 mobile phones, including iP-
hones, he said. According to the official, the gang
purchased stolen high-end mobile phones at a
discount and sold them in various states. Police
also seized a laptop, 9.5 kg of ganja, 174 bottles
of foreign liquor, and two swords.
Pune: Scared over not getting campus place-
ment, a 21-year-old engineering student allegedly
committed suicide in Pune city on Friday, said
police. He jumped from the eighth floor of his
residence in the Susgaon area near Hinjawadi,
an IT hub in western Pune. The deceased was a
fourth-year computer science student at a well-
known engineering institute. “We have found a
suicide note in which he has stated that he was
scared he would not be getting placement after
finishing his course,” said an officer from the
Hinjawadi police station.
Jalna: The superintendent of police in Maha-
rashtra’s Jalna district has suspended 11 police
personnel and launched an inquiry against them
for not reporting to work, said an officer on
Friday. Superintendent of Police Akshay Shinde
said these cops remained absent from duty for
many days without prior permission or valid
reason. Those suspended included four police-
men working in district police headquarters and
three posted at the Bhokardan police station, the
officer said.
Mumbai: An auto driver was arrested in the
Santacruz area by Dindoshi police for stealing
a passport, iPad, visa and cash from a Brazilian
student. The police searched 40 CCTV cameras
for tracking the accused. “Marine Leo, a 23-year-

Gandhi Institute of Development Research in
Goregaon East. The driver of the auto in which
she was travelling, stole her iPad, passport and
Rs15000 cash,” said police. The Dindoshi Police

Kanhaiyalal Pal was traced to Kalina and was
arrested. FIR was registered against the driver at
Dindoshi police station. Police recovered iPad,

Sena sacks Shivtare for
‘ANTI-PARTY ACTIVITIES’
First India Bureau
Mumbai: The Uddhav
Thackeray-led Shiv
Sena has sacked for-
mer minister Vijay
Shivtare for “anti-
party activities”.
The sacking of Shiv-
tare, who had repre-
sented the Purandar
constituency in the
Pune district, was an-
nounced in the Sena
mouthpiece ‘Saamana’.
Talking to reporters
in Pune after his expul-
sion, Shivtare said the
faction led by Maha-
rashtra Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde is the
“real” Shiv Sena.
“No one in Shiv Sena
was happy over the de-
cision to join hands
with Congress in 2019
(after polls when Maha
Vikas Aghadi was
formed). The party up-
holding Balasaheb
Thackeray’s Hindutva
agenda was the real
Shiv Sena,” said Shiv-
tare, who served as a
minister in the Deven-
dra Fadnavis-led gov-
ernment in 2014-19.
Shivtare said that he
holds Sena chief Ud-
dhav Thackeray in high
esteem but the “under-
current of resentment”
in the party over allying
with Congress cannot
be ignored.
He cited the example
of the Kolhapur north
Assembly bypoll held
earlier this year to
claim that Shiv Sena’s
voter base was affected
as the Congress candi-
date won by defeating
the Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) by a mar-
gin of over 18,000 votes.
The Congress candi-
date was fielded by the
Maha Vikas Aghadi
(MVA) of which the
Sena is the main con-
stituent.
In that bypoll, the
Congress candidate
bagged 96,000 votes,
around 5,000 more than
the votes polled in the
2019 Assembly polls.
No one in
Shiv Sena
was happy
over the decision to
join hands with Con-
gress in 2019 (after

kas Aghadi was
formed). The party

Mumbai: Chief Min-

Municipal corpora-

WHAT IS BJP’S
‘MASTER STROKE’
IN DELHI?
The question is
worth a million dol-
lars whether Kejriwal’s
Delhi is slipping out of
his hand like sand. The
glare of saffron political
pranks is dazzling the
eyes of AAP politicians
in Delhi. Recently, the
Union Home Ministry
has constituted a Delim-
itation Commission for
Delhi. In fact, for the de-
limitation of the wards
of the Municipal Corpo-
ration of Delhi, the Cen-
tre has constituted a
3-member committee,
this committee has to
submit its report within
four months, only after
that the Corporation
elections are possible.
But the problem in this
is that the formula for
delimitation of wards
hasn’t yet been decided.
If sources are to
be believed, the
BJP wants to
give a blow to
AAP govern-
ment of Delhi
slowly
. In
thisepi-
s o d e ,
t h e
‘Government of NCT of
Delhi Act’ was passed
last year and under this
act, the scope of the
powers of Delhi LG
were greatly increased.
If sources are to be be-
lieved, with this ambi-
tious step, the Centre
wants to rewind the sit-
uation that prevailed
before 1993. Now they
want to build a Delhi,
where it will have a
Mayor, but the LG will
have unlimited powers,
and will represent the
Centre. If the BJP suc-
ceeds in giving shape to
this vision, then there
may be a big question
mark on the future of
Delhi C M Arvind Kejri-
wal.
SINGAPORE
MINISTER
STUNNED BY PM’S
GESTURE
On July 8, the
‘Arun Jaitley
Memorial Lec-
ture’ was con-
vened at Vig-
yan Bhavan,
in which
Singapore’s senior min-
ister Tharman Shan-
mugaratnam was to
deliver his lecture as
the keynote speaker.
Jaitley’s entire family
was seated in the front
row below the stage and
senior Singaporean
minister was also seat-
ed there. PM Modi
reached the auditorium
at the appointed time,
and usually he would
have reached directly
on the stage, but break-
ing the standard tradi-
tion that day, the PM
first met the Jaitley
family, then headed to-
wards the stage. After
reaching the stage, he
found this Singapore
Minister sitting in the
audience gallery. At
that time only
F i n a n c e
Minister
Nirmala
Sithara-
man was
present to
receive
the PM on the stage and
the PM asked her to
bring Shanmugarat-
nam on stage. Immedi-
ately the authorities
swung into action and
the Singaporean Minis-
ter was brought on
stage. But after this the
expressions of the PM
were telling that he
isn’t happy with this
protocol. Among the
dignitaries who had
come specially to hear
this lecture, the pres-
ence of Anurag Thakur,
RS Prasad, PK Misra,
Rajeev Shukla and the
RBI Governor could be
seen, but the absence of
most of the Union Min-
isters was also surpris-
ing. There were also
many saffron faces
whose talent was recog-
nised by Jaitley, who
helped them move
ahead in their careers.
LOK SABHA
SPEAKER IS ALSO
A GOOD LEADER!
Lok Sabha Speaker
Om Birla often
rides on the waves of
excessive enthusiasm.
In the past, when his
three years as speaker
were completed, he
gave many interviews
to the media to make
the occasion special.
His interview series,
which lasted for a
week, not only dissatis-
fied the top leadership
of the party, but also
sent a message to the
masses about how ‘pro-
active’ a speaker he is.
To realise his wishes,
the LS Secretariat had
established not one but
three studios in the
Parliament Annex,
where its backdrop was
prepared with the Tri-
colour of India. The
Speaker also gave in-
terviews in turn in
each studio without
losing a minute, taking
special care that he
at least change s
his jackets dur-
ing every inter-
view. Every
journalist be-
came crazy
about his inno-
cent ges-
t u r e
when after finishing
the interview, he would
request the interview-
ing journo to click a
picture with him with
Tricolour as the back-
drop. Anyway, he is
very popular in his par-
liamentary constitu-
ency, Kota-Bundi,
where, by rule, he tours
every Saturday Sun-
day and mixes with the
people.
HOW DID
‘CHANAKYA’ PAWAR
MISS OUT IN
MAHARASHTRA?
This time, in saving
the Maha Aghadi
government of Maha-
rashtra, how did
Sharad Pawar, who is
considered to be the
‘Chanakya’ of politics,
fail to rescue it?
Where did he go
wrong? His par-
ty had the
Home Minis-
try in the
Maha Vikas
Aghadi gov-
e r n -
ment and though there
was intelligence about
the government col-
lapsing, but could he
not smell the inten-
tions of Eknath Shinde
and BJP in time? If re-
liable sources are to be
believed, Pawar had
met the PM in Delhi a
few days before the saf-
fron game began in Ma-
harashtra. Later, he
had serious consulta-
tions with some top
BJP leaders about the
formation of a new gov-
ernment with the BJP
in Maharashtra. But
only one hurdle came
to the fore in this entire
matter, that is that Pa-
war was adamant that
the CM of the new coa-
lition government
would be his daughter
Supriya Sule, while the
BJP agreed to make Pa-
war’s daughter as the
Deputy CM. When Pa-
war didn’t agree, BJP
went with Eknath
Shinde thinking at
least he would be under
Saffron Party’s control
and that is where the
game turned around.
...AND FINALLY
Afterall,Jharkhand
Mukti Morcha
(JMM) supremo and
CM Hemant Soren an-
nounced party’s sup-
port of NDA’s presiden-
tial candidate Draupa-
di Murmu. In fact,
when Murmu was the
Governor of
Jharkhand and Raghu-
bar Das the CM there,
in 2016, the Raghubar
Das government of
BJP brought two im-
portant bills ignoring
tribal interests. The
first was ‘Chhota Nag-
pur Tenancy Act’ the
other was ‘Santhal Par-
gana Tenancy Act’.
When the then Gover-
nor Draupadi Murmu
received them for sign-
ing, she refused to sign
the bills, stressing
upon taking care of
tribal interests, sent
them back to govern-
ment for reconsidera-
tion. It is said that
Jharkhand Mukti Mor-
cha benefited through-
this in polls Soren’s
party got the lump sum

an online clothing brand
‘Phool Booti Apparels’. The
USP was clear: clothes that
not only look stylish but are
also hassle-free for kids to
wear during festivals and
for a longer duration daily.
She introduced apparel like
lehengas, suits, crop tops
and pant sets in light and
breathable fabrics like cot-
ton and chanderi.
Looking at the demand
for such clothes, she also
soon expanded to include
apparel for women as well
as men in her collection.
From easy-breezy summer
dresses and chic co-ord sets
to traditional attire like el-
egant suits and lehengas,
there is a lot for women to
choose from without really
burning a hole in their
pockets. For men, there are
shirts, kurtas as well as
jackets to amp up their
wardrobes. The apparel
for men and women too
is made using cotton

Telling more about the
venture, Saurabh Jain says:
“When it comes to textiles,
there is no denying that
Jaipur is a manufacturing
hub and known across the
globe for it. In our designs,
we make it a point to create
something different from
the ubiquitous Sanganeri
and Bagru style prints. We
use playful prints in sooth-
ing colours like greys,
greens and gold to cater to
the audience who is on the
lookout for some unique de-
signs and prints”. Another
point which sets Phoo Booti
Fabrics apart is their in-
depth understanding of the
chemistry and technicali-
ties of textiles and colours.
This ensures that
the colours do
not bleed and
remain fast,
unlike the
Sang aneri
and Bagru
print fabrics
which usu-
ally face this
complaint.

MAHENG/2022/14652 l Vol 1 l Issue No. 72 PM MODI’S MURMU PLAY upsets NCP-Sena applecart Renni Abraham Mumbai: Prime Minis- ter Narendra Modi’s nomination of former Governor of Jharkhand, Droupadi Murmu, to the post of India’s next president has compelled for- mer ally- tur ned-foe Shiv Sena ( U d d h av Thacker- ay’s fac- tion) to go along with the Bharatiya Janata Party . This has upset the political applecart of Nation- alist Con- gress Par- ty (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar in Maharashtra. While the united op- position comprising 17 political parties had backed the candidature of former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha as their nominee for the presidential elections slated for July 18, Mur- mu’s candidature took the wind out of their sails. Even Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Bannerjee was forced to backtrack, was the first to state that she would have positively consid- ered the BJP nominee, had the party an- nounced Murmu’s can- didature earlier. According to a BJP source, “Modi was al- ways considering a woman to head the In- dian Republic and final- ized the nomination of Murmu. Turn to P5 PM Narendra Modi Renni Abraham Mumbai: The secular political coalition comprising Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress is over. This development has risen amid Congress’ claims of contesting civic body polls in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur alone. A senior Congress leader said, “The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was specifically created to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power in Maharashtra. It was not a ‘forever’ alliance. In fact, during the Democratic Front (DF) alliance with NCP (1999 to 2014), the Congress fought local body elections separately.” According to sources, the Congress party’s view on the forthcoming civic elections to 23 major municipal corporations in Maha does not reconcile an MVA alliance. NCP chief Sharad Pawar Shiv Sena chief UddhavThackeray Thackeray pressured by party MPs, even as Pawar suffers political onslaught over an ill-timed taunt Badlapur councillors switch camps, Uddhav faction wiped out First India Bureau Mumbai: In yet anoth- er blow to the Shiv Sena, the vertical split in the party has further spread to Kulgaon-Bad- lapur municipal coun- cil in Thane district. Party councillors in three municipalities of Ratnagiri district have switched loyalties to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s camp. In Kulgaon-Badlapur municipal council, all 23 councillors led by Shiv Sena city chief Waman Mhatre, and Thane zilla parishad President Pushpa P a t i l called o n Shinde and de- clared their support on Saturday . The Sena had 25 councillors in the mu- nicipal council, but one of them passed away and another joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), thereby reducing their strength to 23. Now, all council- lors have pledged their support to the Shinde faction. This is the first municipal body where all Sena corpora- tors have pledged their support to the CM camp, en masse. As the Shinde group MLAs are returning to their constituencies, Sena units in those dis- tricts are being forced to take a decision. As former Minister for Higher and Technical Education in the MVA government, Uday Sa- mant, reached his con- stituency of Ratnagiri, councillors from Ratna- giri municipal council met him at the govern- ment guest house. Out of 23 councillors, 20 pledged their support to Samant at a meeting, substantially reducing the strength of the Ud- dhav camp. Similarly, eight councillors from Mandangad municipal council, and three from Dapoli municipal coun- cil pledged Turn to P5 Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is losing support of party councillors as CM Shinde’s govt settles in. All 23 councillors declare support for CM Shinde; 20 of 23 councillors of Ratnagiri municipal council side with rebel Samant CONGRESS GOING SOLO MAY PUT OUT MVA LIGHT MAHARASHTRA CITIES RENAMING GETS SHINDE NOD Mumbai: The Eknath Shinde-led govern- ment in Maharashtra on Saturday granted cabinet approval to re- name Aurangabad and Osmanabad cities as Chhatrapati Sambhaji- nagar and Dharashiv respectively. P2 VILLAGES NEAR BHATSA RIVER PUT ON ALERT Thane: The administra- tion in Thane has alerted people living on the banks to Bhatsa river, as the water level is rising in the dam due to heavy rainfall. The gates of the reservoir are likely to be opened anytime, which is likely to cause flooding in the nearby villages. P3
  • 2. First India Bureau Nagpur: National- ist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday al- leged that demo- cratically elected governments in the states are brought down if they do not adhere to the ideol- ogy of the Bharati- ya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking to a gath- eringof NCPworkers here, he accused the BJP's central leader- ship of imposing their ideology on state governments run by non-BJP par- ties. If these govern- ments do not toe the line, they are toppled, Pawar said. Last month, the Shiv Sena-NCP-Con- gress coalition gov- ernment in Maha- rashtra collapsed af- ter the Shiv Sena leaderEknathShinde rebelled along with a majority of his par- ty's MLAs. Pawar said, earlier in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, non- BJP governments were brought down by engineering defec- tions, and the BJP cametopowerinboth the states. In the same way, “Those in power in Delhi decided to take away power from a government that was running well in Ma- harashtra,” the NCP supremo said. The message was “Do as we tell you and accept our ideology or we would not let a democratic govern- ment function. But such things do not last....wherever au- tocracy took over in the world, it did not last long,” the senior politician added. Pawar also stated that in neighbouring SriLanka, wejustsaw how power was mis- used by one family (the Rajapaksas) and how its rule was over- thrown by people. Party workers should remainunitedandad- here to the Constitu- tion framed by Dr Ba- basaheb Ambedkar. First India Bureau Mumbai: Bolstering his efforts towards for- mation of a separate Vidarbha state, Con- gress leader and for- mer Katol MLA Ash- ish Deshmukh, on Fri- day wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to form as many as 75 smaller states, as a gift to the nation on its 75th Independence Day . Deshmukh, who has been voicing for crea- tion of a separate Vid- harbha state, said that each should have aver- age of 4.90 crore people. Many states formed next to Maharashtra are progressing rapidly, while a prosperous re- gion like Vidharbha struggles for basic amenities. The neigh- bouring states are wit- nessing all around pro- gress such as doubling per capita income, in- creased irrigation, bet- ter health facilities, edu- cation, law and order, roads, living standards, abundant electricity , al- ternative employment, he said. Talking of pro-small statepolicyof BJPDesh- mukh said, “Since BJP hassupportedformation of smaller states, it is a humble request that the concept of 75@75 should be started with the for- mation of Vidarbha as the 30th state and you (the PM), should an- nounce it in his speech/ address to the nation on this 15th August.” Mumbai (PTI): The Eknath Shinde-led government in Maha- rashtra on Saturday granted cabinet ap- proval to rename Au- rangabad and Os- manabad cities as Chhatrapati Samb- hajinagar and Dhar- ashiv respectively. The decision to re- name these cities was taken in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government’s last cabinet meeting chaired by then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on June 29, just before he resigned. However, incumbent CM Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Deven- dra Fadnavis, who were sworn in on June 30, had said the Thackeray- led dispensation’s deci- sion to rename these places was illegal. They had reasoned that it was taken after the gov- ernor had asked it to prove majority in the state Legislative As- sembly . During the cabinet meeting chaired by Thackeray last month, Aurangabad was re- named as Sambhajina- gar, but the Shinde gov- ernment on Saturday added the ‘Chhatrapati’ prefix to it. Currently, Shinde and Fadnavis are the only two members in the cabinet as its expan- sion is still pending. A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said, “The fresh proposal approved by the cabi- net will be sent to the Centre, after which the renaming of both the cities will be done at the divisional, district, taluka, municipal cor- poration as well as council levels.” Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena held a protest in Aurangabad saying that the Shinde gov- ernment’s move of giv- ing a cabinet approval to the decision that was already taken by the Thackeray-led dis- pensation was only meant for taking the credit. Further, Maharash- tra Legislative Council member Ambadas Danve, part of the Thackeray group in the Sena, said that the Eknath Shinde govern- ment in Maharashtra wanted to lengthen the process of renaming Aurangabad. “The addition to the name would require more and fresh nods from the Centre and these would take time,” he stated. Narwekar was in Del- hi on Friday to attend a meeting of state assem- bly presiding officers convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. When asked if the Shiv Sena rebellion would have any impact on the assembly session beginning July 25, Nar- wekar, a first-term BJP MLA from Colaba in south Mumbai, said, I don't think so. Narwekar expressed confidence in the state assembly's smooth func- tioning despite a bitter split in the Shiv Sena ranks, claiming that the disruptions in the Ma- harashtra House were minor in comparison to other states. Accord- ing to sources, a cos- mopolitan mix of politicians may bag cabinet berths, with an eye on the forth- coming Mumbai, Thane and Pune civic body elections. “Young fresh faces are likely to be includ- ed in the state cabinet, which will have a Ma- harashtrian, Gujarati and North Indian mix, keeping in mind the elections to three important urban civic elections in the MMR (Mumbai Metropoli- tan Region) jurisdic- tion. Amit Thackeray, son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, and other young leaders such as Ashish Shelar, Ram Kadam, Yogesh Sagar, Vidya Thakur and Sunil Rane are being considered from the Bharatiya Janata Par- ty’s (BJP) side,” said a source. Over the next few days, Thackeray will tour several districts to rebuild the party from the ground up after the recent split within its ranks. “The exact dates and his itinerary are still being worked out at the moment but, he will hit the streets as he showed on Friday (re- ferring to Thackeray’s visit to Sena’s Byculla branch),” said a Sena leader. Uddhav’s son and for- mer state Environment Minister, Aaditya Thackeray, is also ex- pected to travel with him. The former CM—who was repeatedly accused of running the govern- ment without visiting the Mantralaya (state secretariat)—attempted to seemingly overturn that assessment by pay- ing a visit to the Sena’s shakha number 208 in Byculla on Friday, after two party activists were attacked by unidenti- fied people. Thackeray not only mingled with party workers, but also slammed local police for not being able to protect Sena workers. “If you are not able to protect our workers, then tell us. Shiv sainiks willprotectthem.Youdo not meddle in politics, we will handle that,” he told local police officials sternly . He also asked them to record the state- ments of suspects point- ed out by the workers who were attacked. The vertical split in the Shiv Sena has left the Uddhav camp with just 15 MLAs while 41 MLAs have joined the Eknath Shinde’s group of rebels. The split has also substantially cost the faction its strength of elected councillors in most of the municipal corporations in Mum- bai Metropolitan Re- gion (MMR). It is also playing out in rural regions of Ma- harashtra and will have an impact on the rural and semi-urban local bodies which are sched- uled to go to polls later this month. With Eknath Shinde positioning himself as the ‘real’ Sena by owing allegiance to party founder Balasaheb Thackeray and Thane leader Anand Dighe’s brand of strident Hin- dutva, Uddhav Thack- eray has a tough few months ahead to keep his flock together and win elections. • 3. First India Bureau Mumbai: Despite a dry spell in June, heavy rains during the last fortnight have more than dou- bled the quantity of water in the dams across Maharashtra. This comes after heavy showers were witnessed in Konkan, parts of western Maha- rashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha and other re- gions of the state. While the bigger reservoirs registered an increase in water stock, many smaller water reser- voirs were even report- ed to be overflowing. July witnessed heavy rain showers across the state leading to increase in the water supply in the dams, the data pointed out, because of which, the water stock jumped as high as 16% during the fortnight. “A comparison be- tween the current and previous year's data shows that the water stored in the dams was not only much more than the figures regis- tered last year, but also recorded a higher in- tensity of filling reser- voirs. Heavy rainfalls witnessed during the last week are the rea- son behind it,” said an official. On July 01, the reser- voirs had 24.07% stock as compared to 32.62% in the previous year (2021). Within a fort- night, the stock climbed up to 53.73% (by Friday). The water storage was 35.53% dur- ing corresponding pe- riod last year. First India Bureau Thane: The adminis- tration in Thane dis- trict has alerted peo- ple living on the banks to Bhatsa river, as the water level is rising in the dam due to heavy rainfall. As per an official re- lease, the water level in Bhatsa dam was at 134.08 m at 5.30 pm, and the gates of the reservoir are likely to be opened anytime, which is likely to cause flooding in the nearby villages. The local administra- tion has alerted the villages located on the banks of the river and Sapgaon on the Sha- hapur-Murbad road and near the Sapgaon bridge, said an official. According to district authorities, 13 people have died in rain-relat- ed incidents in the dis- trict since June 01. T ndia’s strategic importance for the United States and its allies was never rated as high as it is now. Earlier, the US was busy strengthening Pakistan with financial and military aid until 9/11 hap- pened. The collapse of the twin towers jolted White House of its reverie to realise that Pakistan was, and is, a cradle of terrorists who were not averse to striking at the heart of America. Once this realization dawned and the China-Pakistan axis came into focus, the US turned its attention towards India which was emerging as an economic power in the sub- continent. India’s huge un- tapped market, relatively high ease of doing business and receding threat of terror- ism became New Delhi’s USP . China also played a role in this change of attitude. Bei- jing’s expansionist designs in the South China Sea, on Taiwan, its encircling of Australia and the threat posed to Japan, eventually led to the formation of QUAD which would have remained incomplete without India. In- dia’s compulsion to maintain healthy ties with the West were also driven by China’s greedy eyes on its territory . The stumbling block in In- dia’stieswiththeWestwasits dependence on Russia for its weapons supply, although it did not restrict its purchases from Moscow as it has been buying weapons from France, UK and US as well. After the Ukraine war when Washing- tonimposedsanctionsonRus- sia, doubts arose over India’s deal for the S-400 Russian mis- sile system. However, the US House of Representatives cit- ed the “China threat” to allow sanctions waiver. The legisla- tion now goes to the Senate. INDIA’S IMPORTANCE GETS IT A WAIVER India’s strategic importance for the United States and its allies was never rated as high as it is now. Earlier, the US was busy strengthening Pakistan with financial and military aid until 9/11 happened. The collapse of the twin towers jolted White House of its reverie to realise that Pakistan was, and is, a cradle of terrorists who were not averse to striking at the heart of America I hoosing an education system is a very important decision for a parent and a decision should be made considering individual’s preferences, a child’s strengths, a parents constraints and a school’s ecosystem. The national board of CBSE teaches one of the larg- est cohorts of students in the world and provides compre- hensive education that is af- fordable. It prepares children for most competitive exami- nations that are conducted in the country and the syllabus of the national level entrance examinations are in sync with CBSE to a great extent. Students aiming at pursuing a career in Engineering or Medicine in India should pre- fer this board, as the syllabi and pattern of Indian en- trance examinations in these two domains are aligned to the CBSE curriculum. With the New National Education Policy, various options in subjects combinations, vari- ety of assessments and a more hands on approach to learning have become a part of the CBSE. With project based learning and learning through the arts, the curric- ula has become quite dynam- ic and well rounded. Anothergreatadvantageof the CBSE is that schools offer- ing this board are spread across the breath and length of the country making it ac- cessible for one and all. IB Diploma programme is a bril- liant combination of breadth, depth, and flexibility . It is a comprehensive and balanced curriculum which allows stu- dents to choose subjects from several different streams-sci- ence, humanities, commerce, and fine arts. Students study six eclectic subjects which opens more college and ca- reer choices for them as com- pared to what they are com- pelled to choose after having studied only one stream. But despite the structured frame- work of picking subjects from 6 groups, the DP provides a great deal of flexibility, ac- commodating and enhancing student interests and abili- ties. It allows students to cus- tomise their subjects as per their college majors. The pedagogy and assess- ment styles are very different in IB as it assesses more than just academic skills. While other curricula focus on facts and information IB focuses on knowledge; while in most exams test technical memory wherein students regurgitate crammed facts, IB students analyse, evaluate and apply concepts. I have no doubt that almost all pre-university courses available to students in India purvey similar facts, but while all other curricula focus on what to learn only IB teaches how to apply learning which goes far be- yond exams and classrooms and holds students in good stead not just in colleges and careers but in lives as well. The world is changing at an unbelievablespeedandeduca- tion needs to revamp itself to churn out not academicians but innovators, risk-takers and problem solvers whose EQ is as much, if not more, developed than IQ. That is, in essence, whattheIBDPdoesto students. I have always been usingandhearingthephrases such as higher order thinking skills or holistic education, but I have truly seen them manifested in IB curriculum. Along with the academic subjects, the students study the IBDP core which for me is the heart and soul of the pro- gramme and the biggest fac- tor that distinguishes IBDP from other curricula. The core builds immensely essen- tial skill and traits in the stu- dents because through the Extended Essay they under- take independent research in asubjectof theirchoicewhich gives IB student an edge over the others when they have to do college projects and write research papers in college. Creativity Activity Service programme (CAS) gives stu- dents opportunities to be- come sensitive and to lean out of comfort zones as they dis- cern global problems and pos- sible solution. These quali- ties shape students into glob- ally aware young adults who have learned to balance aca- demic, personal and social responsibilities, who have the skills to transcend teach- er-dependent learning which is common in other curricula and become independent and lifelong learners. Having pursued IBDP teaches students time man- agement, teamwork and tech- nological proficiency all of which make the transition to collegemuchsmootherandef- ficient. Besides these intangi- ble benefits, IBDP also allows students to earn college cred- its or semester hours which cansavethemtimeandmoney . With an ocean of informa- tion just a mouse click away, educators have to redefine pedagogy or become redun- dant; therefore, dynamism is the defining trait of not just IB students but also IB educa- tors. The quality assurance and high standards main- tained by IB ensures that teachers keep themselves up- dated through various kinds of professional development opportunities so that they are fully equipped to engage, enable, and empower the in- quisitive minds. One can of- ten see IB educators initiate discussions and then let the students take control. A typical IBDP classroom has students huddled in groups instead of the usual linear seating arrangements. Collaborative learning, peer- mentoring, flippedclassrooms and student-led classes are some of the invigoratingly dif- ferent classroom scenarios. Besides this IB educators rec- ognise that students have di- verse learning styles and dif- ferent strengths. Jalna: The superintendent of police in Maha- rashtra’s Jalna district has suspended 11 police personnel and launched an inquiry against them for not reporting to work, said an officer on Friday. Superintendent of Police Akshay Shinde said these cops remained absent from duty for many days without prior permission or valid reason. Those suspended included four police- men working in district police headquarters and three posted at the Bhokardan police station, the officer said. Mumbai: An auto driver was arrested in the Santacruz area by Dindoshi police for stealing a passport, iPad, visa and cash from a Brazilian student. The police searched 40 CCTV cameras for tracking the accused. “Marine Leo, a 23-year- old Brazilian student, was on her way to Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research in Goregaon East. The driver of the auto in which she was travelling, stole her iPad, passport and Rs15000 cash,” said police. The Dindoshi Police saw CCTV footage between Kurla and Goregaon to search the autorickshaw. Finally, auto driver Kanhaiyalal Pal was traced to Kalina and was arrested. FIR was registered against the driver at Dindoshi police station. Police recovered iPad, visa passport and Rs15,000 cash from accused Sena sacks Shivtare for ‘ANTI-PARTY ACTIVITIES’ First India Bureau Mumbai: The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has sacked for- mer minister Vijay Shivtare for “anti- party activities”. The sacking of Shiv- tare, who had repre- sented the Purandar constituency in the Pune district, was an- nounced in the Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’. Talking to reporters in Pune after his expul- sion, Shivtare said the faction led by Maha- rashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is the “real” Shiv Sena. “No one in Shiv Sena was happy over the de- cision to join hands with Congress in 2019 (after polls when Maha Vikas Aghadi was formed). The party up- holding Balasaheb Thackeray’s Hindutva agenda was the real Shiv Sena,” said Shiv- tare, who served as a minister in the Deven- dra Fadnavis-led gov- ernment in 2014-19. Shivtare said that he holds Sena chief Ud- dhav Thackeray in high esteem but the “under- current of resentment” in the party over allying with Congress cannot be ignored. He cited the example of the Kolhapur north Assembly bypoll held earlier this year to claim that Shiv Sena’s voter base was affected as the Congress candi- date won by defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a mar- gin of over 18,000 votes. The Congress candi- date was fielded by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) of which the Sena is the main con- stituent. In that bypoll, the Congress candidate bagged 96,000 votes, around 5,000 more than the votes polled in the 2019 Assembly polls. No one in Shiv Sena was happy over the decision to join hands with Con- gress in 2019 (after polls when Maha Vi- kas Aghadi was formed). The party upholding Balasaheb Thackeray’s Hindut- va was the real Shiv Sena. —Vijay Shivtare, former Maha minister Former Maha minister hails Eknath Shinde led faction for being the ‘real’ Shiv Sena Initiate long-term plan for easing traffic congestion in Mumbai: Shinde First India Bureau Mumbai: Chief Min- ister Eknath Shinde on Saturday asked the city administra- tion to initiate long- term planning for a road development project to ease traffic congestion in the Mumbai Metropoli- tan Region (MMR), of- ficials said. Shinde asked the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to take the lead in initiat- ing such a project, which will include the construction of by- passes, flyovers, service roads and underpasses. District collectors and municipal commis- sioners within the MMR--which includes satellite towns in the neighbouring Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts--should extend cooperation over land acquisition and other issues, the Chief Minis- ter said, adding that traffic on highways, es- pecially that coming from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Ahmedabad, should be regulated. Municipal corpora- tions in the MMR should ensure that roads under their juris- diction are pothole-free, Shinde told the offi- cials. The MMRDA and the Maharashtra State Road Development Cor- poration (MSRDC) should appoint special officers to deal with pot- holes, the chief minis- ter directed. The state govern- ment on Saturday gave permission to the MMRDA to raise loans up to Rs60,000 crore for infrastructure projects, an official said. MMRDA allowed to raise loans up to Rs60,000 cr for infrastructure projects CM Shinde ordered that MMRDA and MSRDC should appoint special officers to deal with potholes in the city Mother-son killed for opposing defecation First India Bureau Mumbai: As many as ten people were held in a murder case, where a mother and her son was killed for objecting to def- ecating in their fields in Jalna dis- trict. The incident took place in Erandwad- gaon village on Satur- day . The deceased were identified as Suman- bai Devilal Sillode (55) and her son Mangesh Sillode (25). Accused Sudhakar Shinde, Sheetal Shinde and others used to defecate on the victim’s fields, leading to quarrels. On Saturday morn- ing, the accused at- tacked on members of Sillode family, killing Sumanbai and Man- gesh and injuring Dev- ilal and Yogesh. While the injured are being treated at the district hospital, the police have arrested all ten accused in- volved in the incident. District Superinten- dent of Police Akshay Shinde, sub-divisional police officer Raju also visited the spot. The accused used to defecate inside the victims’fields, resulting in frequent quarrels between the two families CM Eknath Shinde Vijay Shivtare WHAT IS BJP’S ‘MASTER STROKE’ IN DELHI? The question is worth a million dol- lars whether Kejriwal’s Delhi is slipping out of his hand like sand. The glare of saffron political pranks is dazzling the eyes of AAP politicians in Delhi. Recently, the Union Home Ministry has constituted a Delim- itation Commission for Delhi. In fact, for the de- limitation of the wards of the Municipal Corpo- ration of Delhi, the Cen- tre has constituted a 3-member committee, this committee has to submit its report within four months, only after that the Corporation elections are possible. But the problem in this is that the formula for delimitation of wards hasn’t yet been decided. If sources are to be believed, the BJP wants to give a blow to AAP govern- ment of Delhi slowly . In thisepi- s o d e , t h e ‘Government of NCT of Delhi Act’ was passed last year and under this act, the scope of the powers of Delhi LG were greatly increased. If sources are to be be- lieved, with this ambi- tious step, the Centre wants to rewind the sit- uation that prevailed before 1993. Now they want to build a Delhi, where it will have a Mayor, but the LG will have unlimited powers, and will represent the Centre. If the BJP suc- ceeds in giving shape to this vision, then there may be a big question mark on the future of Delhi C M Arvind Kejri- wal. SINGAPORE MINISTER STUNNED BY PM’S GESTURE On July 8, the ‘Arun Jaitley Memorial Lec- ture’ was con- vened at Vig- yan Bhavan, in which Singapore’s senior min- ister Tharman Shan- mugaratnam was to deliver his lecture as the keynote speaker. Jaitley’s entire family was seated in the front row below the stage and senior Singaporean minister was also seat- ed there. PM Modi reached the auditorium at the appointed time, and usually he would have reached directly on the stage, but break- ing the standard tradi- tion that day, the PM first met the Jaitley family, then headed to- wards the stage. After reaching the stage, he found this Singapore Minister sitting in the audience gallery. At that time only F i n a n c e Minister Nirmala Sithara- man was present to receive the PM on the stage and the PM asked her to bring Shanmugarat- nam on stage. Immedi- ately the authorities swung into action and the Singaporean Minis- ter was brought on stage. But after this the expressions of the PM were telling that he isn’t happy with this protocol. Among the dignitaries who had come specially to hear this lecture, the pres- ence of Anurag Thakur, RS Prasad, PK Misra, Rajeev Shukla and the RBI Governor could be seen, but the absence of most of the Union Min- isters was also surpris- ing. There were also many saffron faces whose talent was recog- nised by Jaitley, who helped them move ahead in their careers. LOK SABHA SPEAKER IS ALSO A GOOD LEADER! Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla often rides on the waves of excessive enthusiasm. In the past, when his three years as speaker were completed, he gave many interviews to the media to make the occasion special. His interview series, which lasted for a week, not only dissatis- fied the top leadership of the party, but also sent a message to the masses about how ‘pro- active’ a speaker he is. To realise his wishes, the LS Secretariat had established not one but three studios in the Parliament Annex, where its backdrop was prepared with the Tri- colour of India. The Speaker also gave in- terviews in turn in each studio without losing a minute, taking special care that he at least change s his jackets dur- ing every inter- view. Every journalist be- came crazy about his inno- cent ges- t u r e when after finishing the interview, he would request the interview- ing journo to click a picture with him with Tricolour as the back- drop. Anyway, he is very popular in his par- liamentary constitu- ency, Kota-Bundi, where, by rule, he tours every Saturday Sun- day and mixes with the people. HOW DID ‘CHANAKYA’ PAWAR MISS OUT IN MAHARASHTRA? This time, in saving the Maha Aghadi government of Maha- rashtra, how did Sharad Pawar, who is considered to be the ‘Chanakya’ of politics, fail to rescue it? Where did he go wrong? His par- ty had the Home Minis- try in the Maha Vikas Aghadi gov- e r n - ment and though there was intelligence about the government col- lapsing, but could he not smell the inten- tions of Eknath Shinde and BJP in time? If re- liable sources are to be believed, Pawar had met the PM in Delhi a few days before the saf- fron game began in Ma- harashtra. Later, he had serious consulta- tions with some top BJP leaders about the formation of a new gov- ernment with the BJP in Maharashtra. But only one hurdle came to the fore in this entire matter, that is that Pa- war was adamant that the CM of the new coa- lition government would be his daughter Supriya Sule, while the BJP agreed to make Pa- war’s daughter as the Deputy CM. When Pa- war didn’t agree, BJP went with Eknath Shinde thinking at least he would be under Saffron Party’s control and that is where the game turned around. ...AND FINALLY Afterall,Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supremo and CM Hemant Soren an- nounced party’s sup- port of NDA’s presiden- tial candidate Draupa- di Murmu. In fact, when Murmu was the Governor of Jharkhand and Raghu- bar Das the CM there, in 2016, the Raghubar Das government of BJP brought two im- portant bills ignoring tribal interests. The first was ‘Chhota Nag- pur Tenancy Act’ the other was ‘Santhal Par- gana Tenancy Act’. When the then Gover- nor Draupadi Murmu received them for sign- ing, she refused to sign the bills, stressing upon taking care of tribal interests, sent them back to govern- ment for reconsidera- tion. It is said that Jharkhand Mukti Mor- cha benefited through- this in polls Soren’s party got the lump sum tribal votes. So, it, in a way, also be- came Sor- en’s com- pulsion to s u p p o r t Murmu’s c a n d i - d a - ture. • 11. hen Jaipur’s popular mom blogger, Priyan- ka Jain could not find fashion- able yet com- fortable eth- nic wear for her d a u g h - ters, the entre- p r e - neurial spirit ignited in her and she decided to put her fashion design expertise to use. This led to the birth of an online clothing brand ‘Phool Booti Apparels’. The USP was clear: clothes that not only look stylish but are also hassle-free for kids to wear during festivals and for a longer duration daily. She introduced apparel like lehengas, suits, crop tops and pant sets in light and breathable fabrics like cot- ton and chanderi. Looking at the demand for such clothes, she also soon expanded to include apparel for women as well as men in her collection. From easy-breezy summer dresses and chic co-ord sets to traditional attire like el- egant suits and lehengas, there is a lot for women to choose from without really burning a hole in their pockets. For men, there are shirts, kurtas as well as jackets to amp up their wardrobes. The apparel for men and women too is made using cotton and chanderi fab- rics. “Theideaisto make cotton an intrinsic part of Haute fashion”, sharesPriyanka while talking about the vision behind Phool Booti. Along with her husband, Sau- rabh Jain, who is alsoafashiondesigner, she also revived their 45-year-old family- owned enterprise ‘Digambar Fabrics’. Now re-branded as ‘Phool Booti Fabrics’, the brand caters to both whole- salers as well as retailers. With an in-house dyeing and print-makinginfrastructure in place, the brand’s special- ityliesincreatingcontempo- rary and modern designs using traditional motifs. Telling more about the venture, Saurabh Jain says: “When it comes to textiles, there is no denying that Jaipur is a manufacturing hub and known across the globe for it. In our designs, we make it a point to create something different from the ubiquitous Sanganeri and Bagru style prints. We use playful prints in sooth- ing colours like greys, greens and gold to cater to the audience who is on the lookout for some unique de- signs and prints”. Another point which sets Phoo Booti Fabrics apart is their in- depth understanding of the chemistry and technicali- ties of textiles and colours. This ensures that the colours do not bleed and remain fast, unlike the Sang aneri and Bagru print fabrics which usu- ally face this complaint.
