of Gujarat from Mon-
day onwards. Gehlot,
who has addressed and
attended several rallies
in Gujarat, will cam-
paign for Congress can-
didates in Rajkot and its
adjoining areas.
Gehlot had an elec-
tion tour scheduled on
Saturday itself, but due
to his ill health, the tour
was postponed. The CM
has even gone to SMS
hospital for checkup
and after recuperating,
he is ready to spread his
‘magic’ in the neigh-
bouring State again.
CM Gehlot is one of

elections. The Congress
high command has also
made Gehlot a senior

police said. Police in-

curred on November 5

FIVE MEN GET 20-YEAR JAIL FOR RAPE
Jaipur: A 20-year-old girl
was allegedly black-
mailed and gang-raped
by three men in Jaipur,
police said. Police
informed the accused
had been identified, and
they were known to the
victim. “The incident
occurred on October 25,
2021 when the accused
entered the house of the
victim. The three men
gang-raped the victim
in an unconscious state
and filmed her obscene
videos. Later, she was
blackmailed and repeat-
edly gang-raped by the
accused. The victim filed
an FIR in Police Station
after getting blackmailed
for a year. An FIR has
been filed and investiga-
tion is on,” police said.
Dausa: A POSCO Court in Dausa has sentenced five men
guilty of raping a specially-abled girl to 20 years of rigor-
ous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.
50,000 on each of accused. Sources informed victim’s
mother had filed an FIR in Mandawli Police Station in
2022 stating that her daughter was taken to a temple
raped by five accused. “Incident occurred on August 9,
2020 at Kali Mata Temple,” added Sunil Kumar Saini.

unstoppable. It has won

Uttar Pradesh, Haryana’s Ad-

the Gopalganj seat. The Con-
gress, on the other hand, has
come a cropper, which is bad

Samithi denied victory to BJP in

eight cheetahs brought
from Namibia, shifted
to a larger enclosure of
Kuno National Park,
Madhya Pradesh’s
Sheopur district on Sat-
urday, an official said.

Verma said, “After the
completion of the quar-
antine period of the
cheetahs brought from
Namibia, two male
Cheetahs have been re-
leasedinabigenclosure.
The rest of the cheetahs
will also be released in a
phase-wise manner
soon”. The cheetahs are
shifted in a different en-
closure where the leop-
ards are not being
traced, he added.
The eight cheetahs
brought from Namibia
were released by PM
Narendra Modi at Kuno
National Park on the oc-
casion of his birthday
on September 17.
Initially, the cheetahs
were kept in a separate
small enclosure. Now,
two of them have been
shifted into the big en-
closure and they will
hunt themselves.
On the occasion of
his birthday, PM Modi
reintroduced cheetahs

high density of leopards in the
sanctuary, but said the two

van der Merwe, who manages
the cheetah metapopulation in
South Africa, the high density
of leopards in KNP is a matter
of concern for the new guests
at the Kuno National Park.

New Delhi: A Delhi court has upheld the order of a
magisterial court to charge a man with sexual harassment
for using a commonly used English expletive to threaten
a woman. The court observed that there was a prima
facie case of the petitioner using the word with the intent
to insult the modesty of the complainant. The court was
hearing a criminal revision case filed by the petitioner,
against whom a Mahila Court in August 2022 had ordered
framing charges According to the complainant, the accused
used the expletive and threatened her on May 9, 2019.

parts of the state.
Shah claimed that the
saffron party will
trounce the Congress in
its bastion.
Alleging that the
Congress was involved
in corruption during its
tenure,Shahsaid,“Who
will believe in their
guarantees? They ruled
for 10 years but only in-
dulged in big scams.
Now they are making
guarantees to befool the
innocent people of
Himachal Pradesh.”
Hailing Prime Minis-
ter Narendra Modi,
Shah said his stature
had grown globally

He claimed when In-
dian students were
strandedinUkrainedur-
ing its war with Russia,
Modi had called up pres-
idents of the two coun-
tries and asked them to
stop the war for a couple
of days so that Indians
could be evacuated.
“This is unprecedent-
ed for the world. Our
students were evacuat-
ed safely,” Shah said.
The home minister
also made a mention of
the development work
and government initia-
tives like Himcare
health scheme and Jal
Jeevan Mission to en-
suresafedrinkingwater.

Shah said the state at-
tracted an investment
of Rs 44,000 crore under
his leadership.

for the youth, Rs 1,500
per month to the wom-
en, and free electricity
up to 300 units of con-
sumption.

TEEN KILLS 4 OF HIS FAMILY IN TRIPURA
Agartala: A teenaged boy killed four members of his fam-
ily, including mother and sister, in Tripura’s Dhalai district,
police said on Sunday. The police arrested the 15-year-old
accused boy on Sunday when he went to the market to
sell a duck. A police official said that the boy killed his
grandfather Badal Debnath (70), mother Samita Debnath
(32), 10-year old sister, aunt Rekha Deb (42), with an axe
when the victims were sleeping, late on Saturday night.
The horrific incident occurred at Durai Shib Bari village
under Kamalpur police station in Tripura’s Dhalai district.

ers died after being elec-
trocuted in Neelasoge
village in Mysuru on
Sunday. The deceased
include Rache Gowda
(60), Harish (33) and Ma-
hadevaswamy (38). Ra-
che Gowda got electro-
cuted when he stepped
on the electric wire that
had fallen on the farm-
land. Seeing Rache be-
ing electrocuted and
struggling, his son Ma-
hadevaswamy rushed
to his rescue, but he
also got electrocuted.

enhanced
pension
coverage prior
to 2014 can
jointly do so
with their employers within
the next four months after
the Supreme Court upheld
the Employees’ Pension
(Amendment) Scheme, 2014.
Employees who were existing
EPS members as on Septem-
ber 1, 2014 can contribute
up to 8.33% of their ‘actual’
salaries -- as against 8.33% of
the pensionable salary capped
at `15,000/month -- towards
pension. This will facilitate
the subscribers to contribute
higher to the scheme and get
enhanced benefits. —PTI
LESS THAN 50 PER CENT CAPEX PLANNED FOR
FINANCIAL YEAR 23 UTILISED: TATA STEEL CEO
New Delhi: Tata Steel has spent less than half of the capex
planned for ongoing 2022-23 fiscal year, its CEO T V Narendran
said. The company had planned
`12,000 crore of capex for the year,
of which about `8,500 crore was for
India and the balance for Europe.
“We have spent a little less of the 50
per cent (of the planned capex) till
now,” Narendran said. For Sep-
tember quarter, Tata Steel reported
90% drop in consolidated net profit to `1,297 crore as against
`12,547.70 crore in the year-ago period. —PTI
SEBI SETTLES 107 CASES UNDER SETTLEMENT
MECHANISM IN FY22; COLLECTS `59 CRORE
New Delhi: As many as 107 applications pertaining to flouting
of securities law were settled with capital markets regulator Sebi
fetching `59 crore through settlement
charges in 2021-22. This was way
lower than 216 applications disposed
of by passing appropriate settlement
orders and the regulator collected
`68.23 crore in 2020-21, according
to the latest disclosure made by Sebi
in its annual report. The settlement
orders were passed in cases related to alleged violations of AIF (Al-
ternative Investment Funds) as well as mutual fund norms, insider
trading rules, PFUTP and LODR rules, among others. —PTI

Chandrasekhar said that
India has covered a great
distance in the electronics
and digital space. “In 2014,
92% of all mobile phones
that we used in India were
imported. In 2014, we ex-
ported zero electronics,
and now in 2022, 97% of the
mobile phones consumed
in India are manufactured
at home,” he said.
According to him, the to-
tal exports of mobile
phones alone as a category
was `70,000 crores. He also
said that for the first time
in independent India’s his-
tory, actual tax collection
exceeded the targets by
over 10% last year.

INDIA ACT FRAMEWORK BY EARLY 2023’
New Delhi (PTI): A significant amount of work has been done
on proposed Digital India Act, and the draft legislative frame-
work to support ‘India’s techade’ is expected by early 2023,
MoS for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar has said. The comments
assume significance as India is moving swiftly towards a strong
framework to catalyse its digital ambitions and govern online
ecosystem, with openness, user safety and trust. At the same
time, the govt has asserted that extensive consultation will go
into framing key legislations which are going to be essential
building blocks for ‘new India’ and its digital architecture.

leased by the RBI on Friday

lic increased to `30.88 lakh
crore as on October 21. The
central bank data for Re-
serve Money had put the
currency in circulation at
`17.7 lakh crore on Novem-
ber 4, 2016. Currency with
public refers to notes and
coins used by people to
transact, settle trades, and
for buying goods and ser-
vices. The figure is arrived
at after deducting cash
with banks from the cur-
rency in circulation.

New Delhi: In the second
quarter of Financial Year
2023, State Bank of India
has become the country’s
most profitable corporate
with `14,752 crore of con-
solidated net income, beat-
ing Reliance Industries
having net earnings of
`13,656 crore.
On a standalone basis
too, with `13,256 crore of
net profit, it has beaten RIL
which remained the most
profitable corporate for
decades, by a wider margin
as Reliance took a hit of
`4,039 crore in windfall tax
on its exports during the
quarter. The net income of
Reliance includes `4,729 cr
from Jio Platforms and
`4,404 cr from the retail
business, both pre-tax
earnings, which was mar-
ginally down from `13,680
cr in the year-ago period.
On the other hand, SBI’s
standalone net soared 74%
to `13,256 crore in the July-
September quarter, mak-
ing this the best-ever quar-
terly numbers for the bank
and beating all other usu-
ally more profitable compa-
nies by a wider margin.

New Delhi (ANI): The gov-
ernment, which has al-
lowed export of 6 million
tonne of sugar till May 31
of the ongoing 2022-23 sea-
son, on Sunday said it
could consider allowing
more export after periodic
assessment of the domestic
production.
“The sugarcane produc-
tion in the country will be
reviewed periodically and
based on the latest availa-
ble estimates, the quantity
of sugar exports to be al-
lowed could be reconsid-
ered,” the ministry said.

Jaipur: Three IAS of
state cadre are giving
their services in other
states and among these,
the case of 2005 batch
IAS Punam, is unique.
According to the rules,
any IAS can go on depu-
tation in their home
state, only for a maxi-
mum of five years. How-
ever,ithasbeensixyears
since Punam went to Bi-
har and even now there
seems no possibility of
her early return. And it
is said that she doesn’t
want to return also.
In October 2016, Pu-
nam went to her Home
state on deputation and
later she took a three
year extension as well.
When the five year term
ended, she excused her-
self on the pretext of
Covid crisis and extend-
ed her ‘stay’ for one
more year. While the
Bihar Government
agreed, the Rajasthan
Government did not
give its approval.
She then headed to
CAT and got a stay on
her return. Originally
this stay was temporary
and for few weeks only,
but even this stay has
continued to get extend-
ed again and again as
Punam is running from
pillar to post to get the
extension done, every
time. Interestingly, the
extension period too
ended on October 30,
2022, but because of
CAT, she has continued
to stay put in Bihar.
Notably, Punam has
her own family in Patna
and thus the current
‘placement’, as Com-
missioner of Saharan,
suits her. Interestingly,
it is the Central DoPT
that is fighting the legal
battle against Punam in
CAT and why the law-
yers of DoPT have so
far been unable to get
CAT’s stay vacated, is a
mystery. But what is
even more bizarre is the
approach of Rajasthan
DoP, which is more or
less a muted spectator
in the CAT’s legal bat-
tle. Rajasthan already
has a dearth of senior
IAS and on the other
hand PUnam has chal-
lenged the very rules
and principles on which
the bureaucracy has to
work; a move which is
wrong. Rajasthan DoP
should bring back Pu-
nam in any way it can.
