‘GITA PRESS TEMPLE
OF LITERATURE’
For an ordinary person
like me, the percep-
tion was that this was
a press. But today, it is
seen that the Gita Press
is not only a press, it is
a temple of literature.
The contribution our
temples and pilgrimage
places have made in
saving the ‘Sanatan
Dharm’, a similar con-
tribution has been made
by literature which is
being published by Gita
Press, he said.

the joint efforts of Yogi
Adityanath and the
Central government,
the state of Uttar
Pradesh is soon on its
way to become a De-
fence production hub.
According to Atul D.
Rane, CEO and MD,
BrahMos Aerospace,
“Construction work is
in full swing in Luc-
know. Production of the
current version of
Brahmos can start once
the facility is set up. As-
suming all things are
smooth in the setup and
professional attestation
of the facility, the first
Brahmos of the current
version can be rolled
out by mid 2024.”
The BrahMos mis-
sile, whose manufactur-
ing is about to start in

tonomous launcher,
which was displayed at
one of the 110 stalls in
the exhibition at the
venue of Ground Break-
ing Ceremony 3 in the
state capital on June 3.
He further informed,
“Whereas the feasibili-
ty study of the missile
is nearing completion,
once these preliminary
studies are over, a de-
tailed design of the sys-
tem will start, if things
go smooth, the joint
venture of DRDO India
and NPOM of Russia
has planned to finish
detail designing within
two years followed by
system trials.”
The timeline to roll out
the future generation of
missiles (BRAHMOS-
NG) will be 5-7 years
from now. BrahMos
Aerospace has planned
to deliver 80-100 mis-
siles a year.
“Numbers are highly
dependent on the or-
ders we receive,” Rane
said.

Reaching out to the

Tiwari said.
Floods are one of the main consequences of climate change.

Lucknow: In a step to-
wards making Uttar
Pradesh the economic
power across the globe,
the Adani Group Chair-
man Gautam Adani
pledged to invest 64,000
crore more. This invest-
ment by his group is
over and above the GBC

The investment of

the establishment of

Lucknow: Minority Af-
fairs Minister Mukhtar
Abbas Naqvi’s fate
hangs in balance after
the BJP on Friday de-
cided to field Ghanshy-
am Lodhi for Parlia-
mentary by—poll in
Rampur.
Naqvi’s candidature
for Rampur Lok Sabha
seat had gained cur-
rency in party circles
after he was denied a
berth in the Rajya
Sabha.
But with that possi-
bility also coming to an
end, the only Muslim
Minister in the Modi
Government will now
have to resign from the
Union Cabinet.
In fact, the BJP which
has - MJ Akbar, Syed
Zafar Islam and
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi
- will not have any Mus-
lim representatives in
the Rajya Sabha as the
term of these three law-
makers --comes to an
end by July
.
Akbar, who was also
a junior minister of ex-
ternal affairs till Octo-
ber 2018 will retire on
June 29, and Islam and
Naqvi will retire on
July 4 and 7 respective-
ly.In the Lok Sabha,
Mehboob Ali Kaiser of
the Lok Jan Shakti
Party is the only Mus-
lim representative of
the NDA.
The BJP, which won
303 of the 543 seats in
the Lok Sabha in 2019
managed a win with
only Saumitra Khan in
WB.
In 2014 too, the party
gave tickets to 2 Mus-
lim candidates in West
Bengal, one each in
Lakshadweep and Bi-
har and three in Jam-
mu and Kashmir, but
none of these candi-
dates were elected.
As per constitutional
provisions, even with-
out being an MP,
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi
can still remain minis-
ter for the next six
months.
While a reshuffle in
the Union Cabinet now
appears imminent, the
buzz around Naqvi is
that he maybe in the
reckoning for the Vice
President or considered
for a gubernatorial
assignment or an
organisational post.
BJP insiders have al-
ready concluded that
the minister who will
be dropped might be se-
lected as a vice presi-
dential candidate.

‘RISING ABOVE RELIGION, CASTE’
Police investigation has
so far revealed that the
dispute between two
sections which came face
to face in protest against
closure of market on Nai
Sadak here on Friday
was well planned. “After
the indecent remarks on
Mohammad Saheb, the
silent appeal for market
closure on call of MMA
Jauhar Esso was just a
drama. The plan was made
just ten minutes before
Friday prayers, which was
executed by president of
organization, Zafar Hayat
Hashmi himself,” said
Police Commissioner Vijay
Singh Meena on Saturday.
CBI team has arrested
Zafar from Lucknow.
The illegal properties of the accused
involved in the violence that erupted in
Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district will be
demolished, said Prashant Kumar, ADG on
Saturday. “The situation has been brought
under control. Identification of the accused
is being done. Action will be taken against
them, and their illegal properties will also
be demolished,” Kumar said. A tense
situation prevailed in Kanpur after a clash
broke out between two groups belonging
to different communities allegedly over a
market shutdown on Friday.
Bahujan Samaj Party supremo
Mayawati Saturday attacked the
state govt over the violence and
stone-pelting in Kanpur, asking
the BJP dispensation to take
action against the culprits “by
rising above religion, caste and
party politics”. Her statement
came after violence broke out in
Kanpur on Friday, a day when President Ram Nath Kovind,
PM Modi, Up Governor Anandiben Patel and Yogi attended
a function at the president’s ancestral village in Kanpur De-
hat. In a tweet Saturday, Mayawati said, “Riots and violence
that erupted in Kanpur during the visit of the president and
Modi to UP is very sad, unfortunate and worrying and also
a sign of the failure of the police intelligence.

CM: ACTION AGAINST THOSE INVOLVED
Taking serious view of
Kanpur development Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath
has issued strict instruc-
tions to strictly deal with
the people involved in the
violence. He told the police
officers during the meet-
ing that peace would be
maintained at any cost in
the state. He said responsi-
bility of the officers at every
level would also be fixed.
The police vigil has been
mounted in entire state. In
view of local intelligence
lapse in Kanpur, instruc-
tions have been issued to
all district police officers
not to ignore even small
incident and take immedi-
ate preventive action.
Mahoba(PTI): A woman
was thrashed, brutalised
with a wooden stick and left
to die in a semi-conscious
state here by her husband
and in-laws for not bearing
a male child, police said on
Saturday. The woman, who
has two daughters aged
seven and two, has been
admitted to a hospital where
her condition remains critical,
they said. Superintendent of
Polie, Mahoba, Sudha Singh
said, “A 31-year-old woman
from the Ramnagar Jukha
area under Kotwali Police
station was attacked by her
husband and in-laws. The
incident took place on Thurs-
day night.” ”In her complaint,
the woman alleged that
she was assaulted by her
in-laws for not bearing a son.
Her husband also forced a
wooden stick into her private
parts,” she said. The woman
was later abandoned outside
the family’s house while her
husband and in-laws fled,
Singh said. Efforts are being
made to arrest the accused.

Bareilly(PTI): A
man and his lover
allegedly died by
suicide after con-
suming poison at
their respective
homes here after
they were forbid-
den from meeting
each other by their
family members,
police said.
The deceased
were identified as
Arjun (21) and
Kiran (20), both
residents of Bra-
himpur village un-
der Bhuta Police
station. The two
were neighbours,
they said. Arjun
and Kiran con-
sumed poison at
their homes on Fri-

Their family
members took
them to a hospital
where they died
during treatment,
the police said. Sta-
tion House Officer
of Bhuta police sta-
tion Arvind Kumar
said, “The bodies

tion.”
According to vil-
lagers, Arjun and
Kiran were roman-
tically involved for
the last two years
against the wishes
of their family
members.
A few days ago,
the two were for-
bidden from meet-
ing each other by
their parents.
Chitrakoot (PTI): A
13-year-old Dalit girl,
who was allegedly
gang-raped earlier, has
died during treatment,
police said on Satur-
day. Three men have
been arrested so far in
connection with the
rape, they said. Super-
intendent of Police
Atul Sharma told that
the girl, a resident of
Pahadi Police Station
area, was allegedly
gang-raped on Wed
night, when she was
sleeping with her fam-
ily outside her house.
The family members
did not inform the po-
lice about the incident
immediately, and took
her to Kaushambi dis-
trict for treatment.
The girl succumbed
to wounds Thursday
night, police said. The
SP said that the family
did not tell anyone
about the incident, and
brought her body on
Friday.
3 people, Nadeem,
Adarsh Pandey, and Vi-
pul Mishra have been
arrested in this con-
nection, Sharma said.
Police are waiting for
the report.
Meerut(PTI): Bharati-
ya Kisan Union (BKU)
national spokesperson
Rakesh Tikait on Fri-
day accused the BJP of
plotting to get him
killed. Tikait termed
the ink attack on him
in Karnataka recently,
a “well-planned con-
spiracy”.
“The govt wants to
get me killed to break
the Tikait family and
the sangathan (union).
But this will never hap-
pen,” he said. Tikait
was addressing a re-
view meeting of BKU at
Dharmeshwari Farm in
Jangethi village of
Meerut district. He said
that just as Mahatma
Gandhi was shot dead
by conspirators , people
who raise the voice for
the country and the
farmers of the country
are on the target of the
conspirators. “If some
harm comes to one Ti-
kait, then lakhs of Ti-
kaits are ready to raise
the Inquilabi flag in the
country,” he said.
Targeting the BJP-
run central govern-
ment, he said that the
government is trying
hard to disturb the uni-
ty of BKU, but it cannot
because of its unity
. Ti-
kait also hit out at the
BJP-ruled UP govt say-
ing it should talk to the
farmers and find a solu-
tion to their problems.
He said that the chief
minister is the chief
minister of the people
of the entire state and
not only of his own par-
ty
, and he should engage
with the farmers.

THAT PROMOTES
RAPE CULTURE
perfume ad has
raised a stink for us-
ing double entendre
dialogue and the gov-
ernment has ordered
the ad to be taken down as it pro-
motes rape culture. The risqué
ad has been given thumbs down
on social media. One Twitter
user said that the communica-
tions agency has “messed up big
time.” The questions being
asked are about who cleared the
ad and if there are any ethical
checks on ad agencies. The Ad-
vertising Standards Council of
India has described it as a “seri-
ous breach of the ASCI Code.”
This is not the first time that
an ad with sexual overtones has
stirred a controversy. Starting
with Pooja Bedi-Robinson’s ad
for a condom in 1991 and Milind
Soman-Madhu Sapre advert of
a shoe brand, ad agencies have
attempted to cross the line.
They stirred a debate on nudity
but never ventured near rape
promotion. Whatever action is
being planned in the present
case, it should serve as a deter-
rent for others.
A
nforcement Direc-
torate’s summons
to Congress Presi-
dent Sonia Gan-
dhi and her son
Rahul for money laundering
in the National Herald case is
not a good omen if one goes
by the fate of opposition lead-
ers who have so far faced the
ED. Heading the list is P. Chi-
dambaram, former Finance
Minister, who was first ar-
rested by the CBI in the INX
Media case in 2019. After he
had spent over 50 days in
Tihar jail, the ED got his cus-
tody in the same case. Chid-
ambaram’s son Karti is now
in ED’s cross-hairs.
Relief from courts is diffi-
cult to come by as was seen in
Chidambaram and other po-
litical leaders’ cases. The lat-
est victim of the ED has been
Aam Aadmi Party leader
Satyender Jain who was ar-
rested towards the end of
May after several appearanc-
es before the investigating
agency in connection with
alleged hawala transactions.
Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena
leader Anil Parab, National-
ist Congress Party’s Nawab
Malik and Anil Deshmukh,
all ministers in the Maha Vi-
kas Aghadi government are
in jail under the Prevention
of Money Laundering Act.
All of them have been denied
relief by courts. Waiting in
the queue are Karnataka’s
DK Shivakumar and TMC’s
Abhishek Banerjee.
The Gandhis who, like oth-
ers, are facing accusations of
money laundering are lead-
ers whom Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and Home
Minister Amit Shah may
want to see pinned to finish
off the Congress before 2024
Lok Sabha elections. The ED
is best equipped to do that. At
this point there must be ap-
prehension in the minds of
party leaders, and for good
reason too.

E
Jawaharlal Nehru replied to
Gandhiji’s letter on October 9, 1945
My dear Bapu,
have received today, on my return from
Lucknow, your letter of 5th October. I
am glad you have written to me fully and
I shall try to reply at some length but I
hope you will forgive me if there is some
delay in this, as I am at present tied up
with close-fitting engagements. I am
only here now for a day and a half. It is
really better to have informal talks but just at present
I do not know when to fit this in. I shall try.
Briefly put, my view is that the question before us is
not one of truth versus untruth or non-violence versus
violence. One assumes as one must that true coopera-
tion and peaceful methods must be aimed at, and a
society which encourages these must be our objec-
tives. The whole question is how to achieve this society
and what its content should be. I do not understand
why village should necessarily embody truth and non-
violence. A village, normally speaking, is backward in-
tellectually and culturally and no progress can be made
from a backward environment. Narrow minded people
are much more likely to be untruthful and violent.
Then again we have to put down certain objectives
like a sufficiency of food, clothing, housing, education,
sanitation etc. which should be the minimum require-
ments for the country and for everyone. It is with
these objectives in view that we must find out specifi-
cally how to attain them speedily. Again it seems to
me inevitable that modern means of transport as well
as many other modern developments must continue
and be developed. There is no way out of it except to
have them. If that is so, inevitably a measure of heavy
industry exists. How far will that fit in with a purely
village society? Personally I hope that heavy or light
industries should all be decentralised as far as pos-
sible and this is feasible now because of the develop-
ment of electric power. If two types of economy exist
in the country there should be either conflict between
the two or one will overwhelm the other.
The question of independence and protection from
foreign aggression, both political and economic, has
also to be considered in this context. I do not think it is
possible for India to be really independent unless she is
a technically advanced country. I am not thinking for the
moment in terms of just armies but rather of scientific
growth. In the present context of the world we cannot
even advance culturally without a strong background of
scientific research in every department. There is today
in the world a tremendous acquisitive tendency both
in individual and groups and nations, which lead to
conflicts and wars. Our entire society is based on this
more or less. That basis must go and be transformed
into one of cooperation, which is cut off from the rest of
world, but rather one isolated India may well be a kind
of vacuum which increase the acquisitive tendencies of
others and thus creates conflicts.
There is no question of palaces for millions of
people. But there seems to be no reason why mil-
lions should not have comfortable up-to-date homes
where they can lead a cultured existence. Many of the
present overgrown cities have developed evils which
are deplorable. Probably we have to discourage this
overgrowth and at the same time encourage the vil-
lage to approximate more to the culture of the town.
It is many years ago since I read Hind Swaraj and
I have only a vague picture in my mind. But even
when I read it 20 or more years ago it seemed to
me completely unreal. In your writing and speeches
since then I have found much that seemed to me an
advance on that old position and an appreciation of
modern trends. I was therefore surprised when you
told us that the old picture still remains intact in your
mind. As you know, the Congress has never asked it
to adopt it except for certain relatively minor aspects
of it. How far it is desirable for the Congress to con-
sider these fundamental questions, involving varying
philosophies of life, it is for you to judge. I should
imagine that a body like the Congress should not lose
itself in arguments over such matters which can only
produce great confusion in people’s minds resulting in
inability to act in the present. This may also result in
creating barriers between the Congress and others in
the country. Ultimately of course this and other ques-
tions will have to be decided by representatives of free
India. I have a feeling that most of these questions are
thought of and discussed in terms of long ago, ignor-
ing the vast changes that have taken places all over
the world during the last generations or more. It is 38
years since Hind Swaraj was written. The world has
completely changed since then, possibly in a wrong
direction. In any event any consideration of these
questions must keep present facts, forces and the hu-
man material we have today in view, otherwise it will
be divorced from reality. You are right in saying that
the world, or a large part of it, appears to be bent on
committing suicide. That may be an inevitable devel-
opment of an evil seed in civilisation that has grown.
I think it is so. How to get rid of this evil, and yet how
to keep the good in the present as in the past is our
problem. Obviously there is good too in the present.
These are some random thoughts hurriedly written
down and I fear they do injustice to the grave import
of the questions raised. You will forgive me, I hope,
for this jumbled presentation. Later, I shall try to write
more clearly on the subject.
I hope you are keeping well and have completely
recovered from the attack of influenza.
Yours affectionately
Jawaharlal

Lucknow: Samajwadi
Party has 111 MLAs in
Uttar Pradesh and is
supported by eight
MLAs from Rashtriya
Lok Dal and six from
Suheldev Bharatiya Sa-
maj Party. Thus the to-
tal strength of the oppo-
sition is 125 MLAs.
Apart from this, Con-
gress has two MLAs and
Raghuraj Pratap’s
Jansatta Dal also has
two MLAs. SP will win
three Rajya Sabha seats
on its own and its allies,
but it is getting only one
seat. The national presi-
dent of SP has given two
seats to others due to
the compulsion of alli-
ance, legal force and the
compulsion of internal
politics of the party.
Think, Jharkhand Muk-
ti Morcha government
in Jharkhand is run-
ning with the support
of 17 Congress MLAs
and Sonia Gandhi her-
self called and talked to
Chief Minister Hemant
Soren, despite this He-
mant did not give one
seat to Congress, while
Akhilesh left two seats.
Three Samajwadi
Party MPs are retiring
as the tenure of Revati
Raman Singh, Vish-
wambhar Nishad and
Sukhram Singh Yadav
has come to an end. But
instead of these three,
SP
, of its own doing, has
got only one seat. Akh-
ilesh Yadav himself sat
down and nominated
Kapil Sibal and Jayant
Chaudhary
, but both are
not becoming MPs of
his party
. Sibal is an in-
dependent and Jayant
Choudhary will become
the RLD MP. Technical-
ly only one MP from SP
will be elected i.e. Javed
Ali. Therefore, SP is fac-
ing a direct loss of two
RS seats, even though
the number game is in
its favour.
If Akhilesh wanted,
he could have put pres-
sure on Sibal to go to
Rajya Sabha on SP tick-
et instead of as an inde-
pendent. But he didn’t.
One was the pressure of
Azam Khan and second-
ly he himself was feel-
ing the need of a big
lawyer in Delhi. The
compulsion to give tick-
et to Jayant Chaudhary
was because now he has
aligned with all the par-
ties in the state except
the BJP
.
He fought elections
with almost all parties
like Congress, SP, RLD,
Suheldev Bharatiya Sa-
maj Party
.
In politics, if one
keeps leaving every-
one’s side, then it will be
difficult to find a col-
league in the future. So
it was necessary for SP
to hold RLD’s side.
Why did Akhilesh settle for just one RS seat?

Mandya: Security has been beefed up around the
perimeter of Jamia Masjid in Karnataka’s Mandya
district after right-wing Hindu outfits expressed their
intent to chant the Hanuman Chalisa and protest out-
side the mosque, on Saturday. Functionaries from
the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal
said they would recite the Hanuman Chalisa within
a one kilometre radius of the disputed mosque.
Police have been deployed to arrest demonstrators

New Delhi: Congress
MP Karti Chidambaram
on Saturday moved the
Delhi high court seeking
anticipatory bail in the
case registered by the
Enforcement Directorate
in connection with the
alleged Chinese visa
scam, PTI reported. The
bail application comes
day after the trial court
dismissed his anticipa-
tory bail plea. On Friday,
the trial court had
rejected the bail plea of
Karti Chidambaram and
two others saying that
the offence was very
serious in nature. The
court had also vacated
the interim protection
from arrest granted to
the accused during the
pendency of the bail
plea. The ED hadbooked
Karti Chidambaram and
others in connection for
money laundering in
the case pertaining to
the issuance of visas to
263 Chinese nationals
to work on a project in
Punjab in 2011. The
probe agency had al-
leged that Karti took ₹50
lakh bribes in exchange
for the visas which were
granted when his father
P Chidambaram was the
union home minister in
the Congress-led UPA
government.
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department
(IMD) on Saturday predicted heatwave conditions

an intense spell of rainfall over northeast India for the
next five days. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature
in Delhi on Saturday settled at 28.7 degrees Celsius,
a notch above normal, the India Meteorological
Department (IMD) said. The maximum temperature
is expected to touch 44 degrees Celsius, it said. The
southwest monsoon Friday advanced into West Ben-

a strong reaction to her

Shukla said that if
Bindu was planning on
getting married in a

Shukla also called
Bindu “mentally ill.”
Citing the Hindu cul-

She said that she was

“If anything goes

no law will prevail,”
Shukla asserted.

New Delhi: Senior ad-

now become available
for many more parties.
Earlier he used to fight
the cases of Congress
leaders. Only when he
got angry with the Con-
gress and left the party,
the Congress leaders
were left, for a moment,
to fend for themselves.
Several leaders began
to inquire whether
Sibal would contest
their case or not. Later,
everyone was assured
by Sibal that he would
continue to fight the
cases of Congress lead-
ers. The first trial in
which Sibal appeared in
court on his return to
Delhi after filing his
nomination with the
support of the Sama-
jwadi Party in Lucknow
was that of Congress
leader P Chidambaram.
After this the confi-
dence of the Congress
leaders returned.
Meanwhile, there is
news that now Sibal can
also fight the case of
Aam Aadmi Party lead-
ers. Keep in mind that
Congress and AAP are
on opposite ends of the
spectrum, but there has
been a lot of ‘friendship’
between AAP and SP.
SP’s Sanjay Singh had
also talked about an alli-
ance in the assembly
elections. Recently,
when AAP leader and

would fight his case.
Shortly after his arrest,

MOSQUE
COMMITTEE

BOOKED FOR
ALLEGEDLY
THREATENING
LAWYER: POLICE
The Agra police have booked
the chairman of Shahi Jama
Masjid’s management committee
here over a purported audio clip
in which he allegedly threatens a
lawyer who claimed that
expensive idols taken from a
temple were buried under the
mosque premises. Mathura-
based lawyer Mahendra Pratap
Singh had recently sent notices
to the Archaeological Survey of
India and the Centre claiming that
the idols of Keshav Dev temple in
his district were buried under the
staircase of Sahiba Begum
Masjid in Agra’s Shahi Jama
Masjid complex by Mughal
emperor Aurangzeb when he
allegedly destroyed the temple in
1670, and sought their recovery.
Agra Senior Superintendent of

enmity between different
groups), 506 (criminal

BJP WORKING
TO UNDERMINE
CONSTITUTIONAL
BODIES:
AKHILESH YADAV
Samajwadi Party President
Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday
attacked the BJP saying the party
is working to weaken the
constitutional institutions,
including the Election
Commission. Addressing a
meeting of party candidates in
2022 UP Assembly election and
other office bearers, Yadav said,
“The BJP does not believe in
socialism, democracy, and
secularism mentioned in the
Preamble of the Constitution. The
BJP is working to weaken
constitutional institutions.” The
meeting was held apparently to
rouse SP workers’ spirits for the
Azamgarh and Rampur bypoll to
be held on June 23. In a statement
issued by the party, Yadav said
while the SP increased its vote
percentage in the 2022 assembly
elections, the result of many
assembly constituencies was
affected because of misuse of the
official machinery. He also alleged
that the Election Commission did
not take proper cognisance of the
party’s grievances during the
latest elections. There were too
many discrepancies in the voter
list, and names of voters were
missing, he said. The SP chief
entrusted the responsibility of
increasing the voting percentage
to the party officials and told them
to gear up for the 2024 Lok Sabha
elections and 2027 UP Legislative
Assembly election. Yadav also
alleged that the villages and poor
are not the priority of the BJP and
it is only ruling the public by
spreading hatred and tension..

Lucknow: The Yadav-
Muslim factor has domi-
nated the Lok Sabha
seat of this city, which
has been the birthplace
of many eminent per-
sonalities of the literary
world. It is worth men-
tioning that the bye-elec-
tion was necessitated af-
ter Akhilesh Yadav, who
wasMPfromAzamgarh,
resignedafterhewonthe
recent assembly elec-
tions from the Karhal
seatof Mainpuridistrict.
According to the data
released by the Election
Commission for the
year 2019, the Azam-
garh Lok Sabha constit-
uency had around 17
lakh registered voters.
In terms of population,
out of these, the upper
castes constitute 17 per
cent, Dalits 25 percent
and OBCs are close to 40
percent. Among the
OBCs, around 21% are
estimated to be non-Ya-
davs. Of these, 19 per
cent Yadav and 18 per
cent Muslim voters to-
gether form the win-
ning combination,
which has been in the
role of kingmaker for
many decades.
As a result of these
casteequations,thewin-
ner or runner-up in this
seat for six consecutive
decades has been a can-
didate belonging to the
Yadav community
. In
the 15 general elections
and two by-elections
held since 1962, thirteen
times the candidates of
the Yadav community
won the elections. Mus-
lim candidates have suc-
ceeded thrice, including
veteran leaders like
Mohsina Kidwai and
Akbar Ahmed Dumpy
.
In 1962, Ram Harakh Ya-
dav of Congress was
elected MP. In 1967 and
again in 1971, Chandra-
jit Yadav of Congress
won the elections. In
1977, Ram Naresh Yadav
of the Janata Party got
success. Congress’s
Mohsina Kidwai won
the 1978 by-election. In
1980, Chandrajit Yadav
became an MP from the
Janata Party (Secular).
In 1984, Santosh Singh
of Congress won the
elections. In 1989, Ram
Krishna Yadav became
the first BSP MP from
here. In 1991, Chandrajit
Yadav of Janata Dal got
a chance to become an
MP again. But in 1996,
Ramakant Yadav was
elected MP as a SP can-
didate. In 1998, Akbar
Ahmed became an MP
as a candidate of BSP
. In
1999, Ramakant Yadav
of SP got success. In
2004, Ramakant Yadav
joined the BSP and won.
In the 2008 by-elections,
Akbar Ahmed won as a
BSP candidate.
In 2014,SP founder
Mulayam Singh Yadav
won the seat with a 35.4
percent vote share by
defeating Ramakant Ya-
dav, who secured 28.9
percent votes and in the
year 2019, SP chief Akh-
ilesh Yadav won the seat
with a 60.4 percent vote
share while BJP’s
Dinesh Lal aka Nirahua
was the runner-up with
35.1 percent votes.

lated to the project is
that the Kalypso Court

almost five years and
its registration with
the U.P. RERA had
lapsed. As a result, the
chances of the allottees
getting possession of
their allotted units in 4

WHY IS
‘SAFFRONISING’ OF
GANGULY NOT A
TRIVIAL MATTER?
Since it is vital for the
BJP to maintain its
presence in Bengal, the
party felt the need to
paint a living Bengali
icon like Sourav Gan-
guly in the ‘deep saf-
fron’ colours. Interest-
ingly, the ‘open chal-
lenge’ thrown by Mama-
ta Banerjee that ‘now
there is ‘no entry’ for
BJP in Bengal is being
taken a bit seriously by
the BJP
. So Ganguly can
prove to be a trump card
for the BJP and word is
that ‘development’ is
afoot. This can be said
from the recent tweet of
the cricketer
in which
h e
has said in gestures, ‘He
is planning to do some-
thing new’. Few days
back when Home Minis-
ter Amit Shah visited
Bengal, Ganguly invited
him over for a meal at
his house. In fact, the
BJP was running be-
hind Ganguly for many
years to join the party,
but Ganguly did not
seem interested then.
However, this time, be-
hind Ganguly’s changed
expressions, his com-
pulsions are more visi-
ble. Ganguly’s tenure as
the President of BCCI
ends on July 27. Before
becoming the President
of BCCI, he was the
President of ‘CAB’ i.e.
Cricket Association of
Bengal, then he
took over the
charge of
BCCI in
2019. Ac-
c o r d -
ing to
the rec-
ommen-
dations
of
the Lodha Committee, a
person will have to take
a mandatory break of
three years after being
president for six con-
secutive years. Ganguly
hasservedasBCCIPres-
identfor3years,butthis
time the BCCI has gone
to court to ‘wave off’ the
‘cooling period’ of 3
years for Ganguly
. The
BCCI says that Ganguly
is such a big name that
he should be seen as an
exception to this rule
and now the matter is
pending in the court. Bi-
har Cricket Association
secretary Aditya Ver-
ma, who took this whole
matter to court,
has also
changed his colours in
support of Ganguly
. He
has also argued in the
court to compromise on
some names. Given his
uncertain future, Gan-
guly has also agreed to
go saffron. And perhaps
Ganguly’s inclusion
will solve the real prob-
lem before BJP, i.e. to
retain its current 18
seats in the 2024 general
elections.
WHY DID NAQVI
HAVE TO LEAVE?
No one can deny the
important role of
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi
in giving a headline to
the journey of BJP’s
wishes. His media
friendly person-
ality has come
in handy for
BJP many
times, so when
he was not giv-
en the Rajya
Sabha ticket
this time, it be-
came the
m o s t
surprising development
in the party
. 22 seats
were vacant, many such
individualsalsowonthe
RS ‘lottery’ who had no
hope of reaching the
hallowed upper house,
however, Naqvi’s name
was not one of the lucky
leaders, even though he
also ran the minority
ministry in such a way
that the ministry’s spir-
its rose high. Naqvi’s
ambitious project ‘Hu-
nar Haat’ added to the
popularity of the gov-
ernment. Ever since the
Gyanvapi controversy
took hold, the Sangh
and the BJP have tried
to formu-
late a
new
‘Hindu Narrative’ i.e.
Muslim Mukt Party,
Parliament and Govern-
ment. But there is also a
section in the party that
wanted to field Naqvi in
the Rampur by-election.
Rampur has 47 percent
Hindu, 4 percent Sikh
and 49 percent Muslim
voters. Owaisi is also
thinking of fielding his
party’s candidate from
there. If any of Azam
Khan’s wife or son does
not enter the fray, then
they too will knowingly
or unknowingly help
the BJP
. And it will also
be a question of Modi
government’s honour,
so the entire adminis-
tration including CM
Yogi will also be ‘ac-
tive’ there. But even
after this Naqvi
was not fielded
from Rampur,
rather BJP has
fielded Ghanshy-
am Lodhi in his
place. Is this a fare-
well time for the
graceful and
media
friendly Naqvi?
WHERE IS RAHUL?

London, he met Tejash-

Tejashwi was

Look at my mother, even
before marriage her

now she is Sonia.” Un-
comfortable with this
openness of Rahul,
Tejashwi thought it ap-
propriate to move away
from there immediately
with his wife. After this,
Rahul entered the con-
ference hall with Sitar-
am Yechury, and sat be-
hind Yechury
. After
some time, Rahul said to
Yechury, “I know what
you are thinking right
now?” Yechury wanted
to know what was on Ra-

“What?” To this Rahul
quipped, “You are think-

of this hall and light a
cigarette.” Hearing this
Yechury couldn’t stop
laughing.

M
ajor is a film based on Major Sandeep
Unnikrishnan, who was martyred dur-
ing the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai
in 2008. To play the role of Major’s wife
comes with great responsibility
. The role is es-
sayed by the young actor, Saiee Manjrekar and
she has made a credible mark. She is fearless
and she is subtle, she emotes with her eyes and
holds herself throughout the narrative. She
supports and she leads and she does it all with
the grace and panache of a seasoned actor.
Therefore, when Sandeep
Unnikrishnan’s moth-
er heaped praises on
Saiee, it is a mat-
ter of great
honour for the
latter.

  • 1. Prez harps on India’s religious ethos First India Bureau Gorakhpur: From east to west and north to south, India’s cultural ethos have a common religious and spiritual foundation, President Ram Nath Kovind said on Saturday . He also said that ‘Dharm’ and govern- ance move along togeth- erandcomplementeach other. Kovind was ad- dressing the centenary celebrations of Gita Press the world’s largest publisher of Hindu reli- gious texts. “From east to west and north to south, India’s cultural ethos have a common religious and spiritual foundation. Ramayan is popular not only in Hin- di but also in Tamil and Gujarati,” he said. “Dharm and govern- ance move along togeth- er and they complement each other. And today, this is visible here. Yogi (Adityanath) ji is the chief minister of this state and also the Gorakshpeeth Peetha- dhiswar (chief seer). Two things imbibed in one person is a big thing,” Kovind added. ThePresidenttermed theGitaPress, launched in 1923 by Jaya Dayal Goyanka and Ghanshy- am Das Jalan for pro- moting the principles of Sanatan Dharm, a “temple of literature”. CM Yogi, PM condole Hapur deaths Lucknow: UP chief minister Yogi Adity- anath conveyed his con- dolencestothebereaved families of the victims who lost their lives in the chemical factory blast in Hapur on Satur- day, his office stated in a tweet in Hindi. “The chief minister has directed district ad- ministration officers to go to the spot and over- see rescue and relief measures and extend all possible help to the victims and their fami- lies,” the tweet read. Adityanath has asked the Divisional Commis- sioner and IG Zone of Meerut to immediately go to the spot, investi- gate and submit the re- port to the government. Prime Minister Nar- endra Modi also con- doled the death tragic deaths and said that the state government was promptly engaged in treatment of those injured. “The incident at a chemical factory in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh is heartbreaking. I con- vey my condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in this. The state government is prompt- ly engaged in the treat- ment of the injured and all other possible assistance,” read a tweet by the Prime Minister’s office. “Total 15 injured, 8 dead in the explosion that took place at an electronic equipment manufacturing unit in Hapur. Injured being treated. We are probing the matter. Action will be taken against those responsible,” said Hapur inspector-gener- al Praveen Kumar. Police at the blast site on Saturday. —PHOTO BY ANI President Ram Nath Kovind being greeted by Governor Anandiben Patel and CM Yogi Adityanath on his arrival at Gorakhpur on Saturday. BEAUTY OF DIVERSITY ‘GITA PRESS TEMPLE OF LITERATURE’ For an ordinary person like me, the percep- tion was that this was a press. But today, it is seen that the Gita Press is not only a press, it is a temple of literature. Relief from courts is diffi- cult to come by as was seen in Chidambaram and other po- litical leaders’ cases. The lat- est victim of the ED has been Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyender Jain who was ar- rested towards the end of May after several appearanc- es before the investigating agency in connection with alleged hawala transactions. Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena leader Anil Parab, National- ist Congress Party’s Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh, all ministers in the Maha Vi- kas Aghadi government are in jail under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. All of them have been denied relief by courts. Waiting in the queue are Karnataka’s DK Shivakumar and TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee. The Gandhis who, like oth- ers, are facing accusations of money laundering are lead- ers whom Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah may want to see pinned to finish off the Congress before 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The ED is best equipped to do that. At this point there must be ap- prehension in the minds of party leaders, and for good reason too. NOT A GOOD OMEN FOR CONGRESS The Gandhis who, like others, are facing accusations of money laundering are leaders whom Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah may want to see pinned to finish off the Congress before 2024 LS polls E Jawaharlal Nehru replied to Gandhiji’s letter on October 9, 1945 My dear Bapu, have received today, on my return from Lucknow, your letter of 5th October. I am glad you have written to me fully and I shall try to reply at some length but I hope you will forgive me if there is some delay in this, as I am at present tied up with close-fitting engagements. I am only here now for a day and a half. It is really better to have informal talks but just at present I do not know when to fit this in. I shall try. Briefly put, my view is that the question before us is not one of truth versus untruth or non-violence versus violence. One assumes as one must that true coopera- tion and peaceful methods must be aimed at, and a society which encourages these must be our objec- tives. The whole question is how to achieve this society and what its content should be. I do not understand why village should necessarily embody truth and non- violence. A village, normally speaking, is backward in- tellectually and culturally and no progress can be made from a backward environment. Narrow minded people are much more likely to be untruthful and violent. Then again we have to put down certain objectives like a sufficiency of food, clothing, housing, education, sanitation etc. which should be the minimum require- ments for the country and for everyone. It is with these objectives in view that we must find out specifi- cally how to attain them speedily. Again it seems to me inevitable that modern means of transport as well as many other modern developments must continue and be developed. There is no way out of it except to have them. If that is so, inevitably a measure of heavy industry exists. How far will that fit in with a purely village society? Personally I hope that heavy or light industries should all be decentralised as far as pos- sible and this is feasible now because of the develop- ment of electric power. If two types of economy exist in the country there should be either conflict between the two or one will overwhelm the other. The question of independence and protection from foreign aggression, both political and economic, has also to be considered in this context. I do not think it is possible for India to be really independent unless she is a technically advanced country. I am not thinking for the moment in terms of just armies but rather of scientific growth. In the present context of the world we cannot even advance culturally without a strong background of scientific research in every department. There is today in the world a tremendous acquisitive tendency both in individual and groups and nations, which lead to conflicts and wars. Our entire society is based on this more or less. That basis must go and be transformed into one of cooperation, which is cut off from the rest of world, but rather one isolated India may well be a kind of vacuum which increase the acquisitive tendencies of others and thus creates conflicts. There is no question of palaces for millions of people. But there seems to be no reason why mil- lions should not have comfortable up-to-date homes where they can lead a cultured existence. Many of the present overgrown cities have developed evils which are deplorable. Probably we have to discourage this overgrowth and at the same time encourage the vil- lage to approximate more to the culture of the town. It is many years ago since I read Hind Swaraj and I have only a vague picture in my mind. But even when I read it 20 or more years ago it seemed to me completely unreal. In your writing and speeches since then I have found much that seemed to me an advance on that old position and an appreciation of modern trends. I was therefore surprised when you told us that the old picture still remains intact in your mind. As you know, the Congress has never asked it to adopt it except for certain relatively minor aspects of it. How far it is desirable for the Congress to con- sider these fundamental questions, involving varying philosophies of life, it is for you to judge. I should imagine that a body like the Congress should not lose itself in arguments over such matters which can only produce great confusion in people’s minds resulting in inability to act in the present. This may also result in creating barriers between the Congress and others in the country. Ultimately of course this and other ques- tions will have to be decided by representatives of free India. I have a feeling that most of these questions are thought of and discussed in terms of long ago, ignor- ing the vast changes that have taken places all over the world during the last generations or more. It is 38 years since Hind Swaraj was written. The world has completely changed since then, possibly in a wrong direction. In any event any consideration of these questions must keep present facts, forces and the hu- man material we have today in view, otherwise it will be divorced from reality. You are right in saying that the world, or a large part of it, appears to be bent on committing suicide. That may be an inevitable devel- opment of an evil seed in civilisation that has grown. I think it is so. How to get rid of this evil, and yet how to keep the good in the present as in the past is our problem. Obviously there is good too in the present. These are some random thoughts hurriedly written down and I fear they do injustice to the grave import of the questions raised. You will forgive me, I hope, for this jumbled presentation. Later, I shall try to write more clearly on the subject. I hope you are keeping well and have completely recovered from the attack of influenza. Yours affectionately Jawaharlal K NATWAR SINGH The author is Former Minister of External Affairs of India Pandit Nehru replied to Bapu’s letter on his return from Lucknow on October 9, 1945 wherein, he hopes to engage in an informal talk revolving around myriad issues including to build up a society that encourages cooperation peaceful existence much more... Thus the to- tal strength of the oppo- sition is 125 MLAs. Apart from this, Con- gress has two MLAs and Raghuraj Pratap’s Jansatta Dal also has two MLAs. SP will win three Rajya Sabha seats on its own and its allies, but it is getting only one seat. The national presi- dent of SP has given two seats to others due to the compulsion of alli- ance, legal force and the compulsion of internal politics of the party. Think, Jharkhand Muk- ti Morcha government in Jharkhand is run- ning with the support of 17 Congress MLAs and Sonia Gandhi her- self called and talked to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, despite this He- mant did not give one seat to Congress, while Akhilesh left two seats. Three Samajwadi Party MPs are retiring as the tenure of Revati Raman Singh, Vish- wambhar Nishad and Sukhram Singh Yadav has come to an end. But instead of these three, SP , of its own doing, has got only one seat. Akh- ilesh Yadav himself sat down and nominated Kapil Sibal and Jayant Chaudhary , but both are not becoming MPs of his party . Sibal is an in- dependent and Jayant Choudhary will become the RLD MP. Technical- ly only one MP from SP will be elected i.e. Javed Ali. Therefore, SP is fac- ing a direct loss of two RS seats, even though the number game is in its favour. If Akhilesh wanted, he could have put pres- sure on Sibal to go to Rajya Sabha on SP tick- et instead of as an inde- pendent. But he didn’t. One was the pressure of Azam Khan and second- ly he himself was feel- ing the need of a big lawyer in Delhi. The compulsion to give tick- et to Jayant Chaudhary was because now he has aligned with all the par- ties in the state except the BJP . He fought elections with almost all parties like Congress, SP, RLD, Suheldev Bharatiya Sa- maj Party . In politics, if one keeps leaving every- one’s side, then it will be difficult to find a col- league in the future. So it was necessary for SP to hold RLD’s side. Why did Akhilesh settle for just one RS seat? DESPITE STRENGTH IN ASSEMBLY... Police have been deployed to arrest demonstrators on the spot. New Delhi: Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Saturday moved the Delhi high court seeking anticipatory bail in the case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged Chinese visa scam, PTI reported. The bail application comes day after the trial court dismissed his anticipa- tory bail plea. On Friday, the trial court had rejected the bail plea of Karti Chidambaram and two others saying that the offence was very serious in nature. The court had also vacated the interim protection from arrest granted to the accused during the pendency of the bail plea. The ED hadbooked Karti Chidambaram and others in connection for money laundering in the case pertaining to the issuance of visas to 263 Chinese nationals to work on a project in Punjab in 2011. We will not allow anybody to make provocative statements and post them on social media,” he added. —PTI BJP WORKING TO UNDERMINE CONSTITUTIONAL BODIES: AKHILESH YADAV Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday attacked the BJP saying the party is working to weaken the constitutional institutions, including the Election Commission. Addressing a meeting of party candidates in 2022 UP Assembly election and other office bearers, Yadav said, “The BJP does not believe in socialism, democracy, and secularism mentioned in the Preamble of the Constitution. The BJP is working to weaken constitutional institutions.” The meeting was held apparently to rouse SP workers’ spirits for the Azamgarh and Rampur bypoll to be held on June 23. In a statement issued by the party, Yadav said while the SP increased its vote percentage in the 2022 assembly elections, the result of many assembly constituencies was affected because of misuse of the official machinery. He also alleged that the Election Commission did not take proper cognisance of the party’s grievances during the latest elections. It is worth men- tioning that the bye-elec- tion was necessitated af- ter Akhilesh Yadav, who wasMPfromAzamgarh, resignedafterhewonthe recent assembly elec- tions from the Karhal seatof Mainpuridistrict. According to the data released by the Election Commission for the year 2019, the Azam- garh Lok Sabha constit- uency had around 17 lakh registered voters. In terms of population, out of these, the upper castes constitute 17 per cent, Dalits 25 percent and OBCs are close to 40 percent. Among the OBCs, around 21% are estimated to be non-Ya- davs. Of these, 19 per cent Yadav and 18 per cent Muslim voters to- gether form the win- ning combination, which has been in the role of kingmaker for many decades. As a result of these casteequations,thewin- ner or runner-up in this seat for six consecutive decades has been a can- didate belonging to the Yadav community . In the 15 general elections and two by-elections held since 1962, thirteen times the candidates of the Yadav community won the elections. Mus- lim candidates have suc- ceeded thrice, including veteran leaders like Mohsina Kidwai and Akbar Ahmed Dumpy . In 1962, Ram Harakh Ya- dav of Congress was elected MP. In 1967 and again in 1971, Chandra- jit Yadav of Congress won the elections. In 1977, Ram Naresh Yadav of the Janata Party got success. Congress’s Mohsina Kidwai won the 1978 by-election. In 1980, Chandrajit Yadav became an MP from the Janata Party (Secular). In 1984, Santosh Singh of Congress won the elections. In 1989, Ram Krishna Yadav became the first BSP MP from here. In 1991, Chandrajit Yadav of Janata Dal got a chance to become an MP again. But in 1996, Ramakant Yadav was elected MP as a SP can- didate. In 1998, Akbar Ahmed became an MP as a candidate of BSP . In 1999, Ramakant Yadav of SP got success. In 2004, Ramakant Yadav joined the BSP and won. In the 2008 by-elections, Akbar Ahmed won as a BSP candidate. In 2014,SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav won the seat with a 35.4 percent vote share by defeating Ramakant Ya- dav, who secured 28.9 percent votes and in the year 2019, SP chief Akh- ilesh Yadav won the seat with a 60.4 percent vote share while BJP’s Dinesh Lal aka Nirahua was the runner-up with 35.1 percent votes. Locat- ed in sector 128, Noida, the promoter is all set to offer possession of 156 units of tower no. 11 and 12 of Kalypso Court to its allottees and future home buy- ers in the unsold units. During the construc- tion progress review meeting of the project, the promoter informed the “Project Advisory and Monitoring Com- mittee” (PAMC) of U.P. RERA. The project is being developed under provisions of section-8 of the RERA Act and the rehabilitation is be- ing monitored under the supervision of U.P. RERA. A brief fact re- lated to the project is that the Kalypso Court project was stalled for almost five years and its registration with the U.P. RERA had lapsed. As a result, the chances of the allottees getting possession of their allotted units in 4 towers of the project, Tower No. 7, 8, 11, and 12, were in jeopardy. Kalypso Court project back on track, OC sought for 156 units WHY IS ‘SAFFRONISING’ OF GANGULY NOT A TRIVIAL MATTER? Since it is vital for the BJP to maintain its presence in Bengal, the party felt the need to paint a living Bengali icon like Sourav Gan- guly in the ‘deep saf- fron’ colours. Interest- ingly, the ‘open chal- lenge’ thrown by Mama- ta Banerjee that ‘now there is ‘no entry’ for BJP in Bengal is being taken a bit seriously by the BJP . So Ganguly can prove to be a trump card for the BJP and word is that ‘development’ is afoot. This can be said from the recent tweet of the cricketer in which h e has said in gestures, ‘He is planning to do some- thing new’. Few days back when Home Minis- ter Amit Shah visited Bengal, Ganguly invited him over for a meal at his house. In fact, the BJP was running be- hind Ganguly for many years to join the party, but Ganguly did not seem interested then. However, this time, be- hind Ganguly’s changed expressions, his com- pulsions are more visi- ble. Ganguly’s tenure as the President of BCCI ends on July 27. Before becoming the President of BCCI, he was the President of ‘CAB’ i.e. Cricket Association of Bengal, then he took over the charge of BCCI in 2019. Ac- c o r d - ing to the rec- ommen- dations of the Lodha Committee, a person will have to take a mandatory break of three years after being president for six con- secutive years. Ganguly hasservedasBCCIPres- identfor3years,butthis time the BCCI has gone to court to ‘wave off’ the ‘cooling period’ of 3 years for Ganguly . The BCCI says that Ganguly is such a big name that he should be seen as an exception to this rule and now the matter is pending in the court. Bi- har Cricket Association secretary Aditya Ver- ma, who took this whole matter to court, has also changed his colours in support of Ganguly . He has also argued in the court to compromise on some names. Given his uncertain future, Gan- guly has also agreed to go saffron. And perhaps Ganguly’s inclusion will solve the real prob- lem before BJP, i.e. to retain its current 18 seats in the 2024 general elections. WHY DID NAQVI HAVE TO LEAVE? No one can deny the important role of Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in giving a headline to the journey of BJP’s wishes. His media friendly person- ality has come in handy for BJP many times, so when he was not giv- en the Rajya Sabha ticket this time, it be- came the m o s t surprising development in the party . 22 seats were vacant, many such individualsalsowonthe RS ‘lottery’ who had no hope of reaching the hallowed upper house, however, Naqvi’s name was not one of the lucky leaders, even though he also ran the minority ministry in such a way that the ministry’s spir- its rose high. Naqvi’s ambitious project ‘Hu- nar Haat’ added to the popularity of the gov- ernment. Ever since the Gyanvapi controversy took hold, the Sangh and the BJP have tried to formu- late a new ‘Hindu Narrative’ i.e. Muslim Mukt Party, Parliament and Govern- ment. But there is also a section in the party that wanted to field Naqvi in the Rampur by-election. Rampur has 47 percent Hindu, 4 percent Sikh and 49 percent Muslim voters. Owaisi is also thinking of fielding his party’s candidate from there. If any of Azam Khan’s wife or son does not enter the fray, then they too will knowingly or unknowingly help the BJP . And it will also be a question of Modi government’s honour, so the entire adminis- tration including CM Yogi will also be ‘ac- tive’ there. But even after this Naqvi was not fielded from Rampur, rather BJP has fielded Ghanshy- am Lodhi in his place. Is this a fare- well time for the graceful and media friendly Naqvi? WHERE IS RAHUL? Away from the scorching heat of India, Rahul Gandhi is abroad, but his wherea- bouts are unknown. Yes, he was to appear before theEDonJune2,buthis lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi has sought time of June 13, citing his be- ing abroad. Here in In- dia, Rahul’s mother So- nia and sister Priyanka have contracted corona, while party MLAs are being taken to Chhattis- garh to avoid cross-vot- ing in Rajya Sabha elec- tions, but Rahul Gandhi is unconcerned about these things. He is in his own world and is dedi- cated to the cause too. In London, he met Tejash- wi Yadav and his newly wed Rajshree. Tejashwi had also reached Cam- bridgetospeakonIndia. As soon as Rahul met Rajshree, he first asked her name and got the answer - ‘Rajshree’. To this Rahulquippedsoft- ly , “But before mar- riage, your name was Rachel?” Ra- jshree remained silent while Tejashwi was also getting un- comfortable. Then Ra- hul said, “There was no need for you to change thenameaftermarriage ortokeepaHinduname. Look at my mother, even before marriage her name was Sonia, even now she is Sonia.” Un- comfortable with this openness of Rahul, Tejashwi thought it ap- propriate to move away from there immediately with his wife. After this, Rahul entered the con- ference hall with Sitar- am Yechury, and sat be- hind Yechury . After some time, Rahul said to Yechury, “I know what you are thinking right now?” Yechury wanted to know what was on Ra- hul’s mind and asked, “What?” To this Rahul quipped, “You are think- ing that you will go out of this hall and light a cigarette.” Hearing this Yechury couldn’t stop laughing.
