Arivia-komResourceManager,December 2005 – March2010
Infrastructure Business Project Office
The Project Office at arivia-kom had undergone a transformation that geared it to
perform at and adhere to ‘best practice’ standards. Part of that transformation
encompassed the introduction of a Resource Management function. I established the
function and all the associated and ancillary processes requisite for the successful
executionofthe resourcemanagement function. As such,Iwas part ofthemanagement
team for the Projects Office.
I oversaw the activities of 22 resources, comprising both clerical staff and projects
managers.
After the restructure at Arivia in mid 2006, I was assigned to Business Solutions as that
division’s Resource Manager. Here the role evolved into a more strategic one, in that
we embarked upon projects to improve retention, to better understand our resources’
skills and to report more effectively on resource movements.
ResourceManager,December2003 – November 2005
Standard Bank
I joined the Standard Bank’s IT Division as a Resource Manager. Resource
Management was a new concept within the bank and I was attracted to the
management challenges that this role presented. The new department has 8
Resource Managers and each Resource Manager was responsible for a staff
complement of an average of 60 staff members. I was the RM for the Business
Support Specialists and they represented the largest Profession Area – 103 (later
reduced 45) staff members. For the first six months I managed the largest pool of
resources by myself.
I designed and developed a database to streamline and automate many of the
manual, paper-based process within this new department. Resource Management, by
its nature, has a high administrative overhead and the database significantly reduces
the labour-intensive, manual paper-based processes.

StrategicSourcingManager,August2001 – November 2003
I joined Mweb CommerceZone as a Supplier Relations Manager. I was promoted to
the position of Strategic Sourcing Manager within 6 months and I was a member of M-
Web CommerceZone’s Senior Management Team. I was responsible for overseeing
and managing strategic sourcing projects for over 19 separate service and commodity
groups, many of which ran con-currently. I had two departments to oversee, with a
staff complement of 10. The sourcing projects were group-wide and had active
participation of 120 people that were indirectly working on sourcing. The affected
services and commodities collectively had an annual spend that was in excess of
R300 million.
I designed the processes and functions for both departments in the Johannesburg
branch as the operation had been previously conducted and managed from the Cape
Town head office.
Management Consultant ,October 2000– July2001
Connection 42, Business Trust
I was a freelance contractor after leaving the JSE. I opted for freelance contracting as I
was desirous of broadening my management experience and enjoyed the diversity
that it brought. The contracts I had ran concurrently as their nature did not require
exclusivity nor full-time commitment.
Johannesburg Stock Exchange
JSEEEZBusinessDevelopmentManager,July1999 -September2000
I contracted to the JSE in the capacity of EEZ Business Development Manager. I was
responsible for implementing the EEZ business objectives and ensuring that the
strategic tasks were followed and executed. Major tasks and functions included
generating new customers, ensuring SLA’s observed with the existing customer base,
the day-to-day running of the EEZ operation and responsibility for staff members.
JSEEEZProject Manager,August 1998 – July1999
As a contractor, I was responsible for overseeing the development of the EEZ
Computer System. Major tasks were the development of the Request For Tender for
the EEZ system, the business analysis of the requirements of the EEZ system, the
ensuring of adherence by the developers to the requirements, development of system
testing, Y2 compliance and post-implementation acceptance.
JSEListingsBusinessAnalyst,January1998 – August 1998
I did the initial investigation of the processes that involved the release of sensitive
Stock Exchange news. This involved an thorough analysis of the origin and cause of
data, via various documents, through to final publication and recommending
enhancements, both automated and human, to expedite the process.
9. EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
7
I contracted to the Listings Division to do the Business Documentation and high-level
design of the Listings Information Database. I also specified the business
documentation for the Stock Exchange News Service.
JSEITBusinessAnalyst,June1993 – January1998
My first formal project as a Business Analyst was to document and understand the
flow of Dividend information (and other Corporate Structure events) that occurred
within the Listings Division. Dividend Announcements, though simple in nature, were
complex in structure and my task was to recommend clerical enhancements to speed
up the manual processes. The investigation and analysis revealed several processes
that were unnecessarily manual and paper-based. The net-effect of the project
reduced the process from 14 days to 3 and resulted in several major enhancements to
computer systems (that were created around inefficient and costly clerical processes)
and the reassignment of resource functions to make them efficient and productive.
At that time, this was a new role for the JSE’s IT Division. It had previously relied upon
user departments to provide business information for the development and
enhancement of JSE systems. In this role I participated in many of the JSE’s IT
projects, most notably the Segregation of Funds project, the Clearing House project
and I was solely responsible for the implementation of the Stock Exchange News
Service.
JSEITSystemsAnalyst,October 1989 – May1993
I joined the JSE as a senior member of the IT Division after being headhunted by the
Applications Senior Manager (I had worked for him before). My primary responsibilities
included the maintenance of the dividends system, the corporate database and the
design of the entitlements system. This last project included analysis, system
specification, project management and implementation. The system is still in use
today.
