LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 10- ENGLISH
I. Objectives:
At the end of the 60-minute period, the Grade 10 students must
have:
a. Identified the function and use of the demonstrative pronoun using
example sentences posted on the board;
b. Applied the function of the demonstrative pronoun using comic strips;
c. Selected the best possible demonstrative pronoun for the given sentences;
d. Supplied the correct demonstrative pronoun that is missing in thedialogues
of the comic strips.

IV. Procedure:
Teacher’s Activity
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
The teacher will ask the students to stand and request someone to lead the prayer.
After that, she will check the attendance of the students.
B. ACTIVITY
The teacher will post 3 sentences on the board. She will ask the students the function of
the underlined word in each sentence.
1. That gives me a headache.
2. These are hilarious cartoons.
3. Those were my weird experiences during the camp.
Start discussing that the examples are the ways how they can use a demonstrative
pronoun.

C. ABSTRACTION
Introduce to them formally what a demonstrative pronoun is.
Demonstrative pronoun points out a noun. (that, these and those.
Example: That is a good idea.
Those are my favorite flowers.
For more examples, the teacher will go back to the previous sentences she had in the
activity.
D. ANALYSIS
Let the students answer an activity presented in the PowerPoint.
Let them fill in the blanks with the correct demonstrative pronoun in the dialogues of
the comic strips. Ask them to answer this in a ½ crosswise.
E. APPLICATION
Board work:
Choose the appropriate demonstrative pronoun for the sentence.
1. (That, Those) apples are very tasty.
2. (These, This) school gave me so many responsibilities.
3. During (that, those) time, I was busy checking the papers.
4. (These, This) are the things we need to do before the class ends.
5. Despite the heavy storm, (this, that) tree along the road was
still strong.
F. Assessment
Give an activity sheet that contains comic strips. The students are task to supply the
correct demonstrative pronoun that functions appropriately in the sentences.
G. Assignment
Ask the students to make a short story by using a comic strip. They should use at least
5 demonstrative pronouns in the dialogues. Ask them to draw this in a short bond
paper.

Instruction: Underline the correct demonstrative pronoun that is appropriate for
the dialogue.
It’s time for little red riding hood to buy fruits for her grandmother. The
vendor is selling different kinds of fruits like oranges, lemons, and apples
which is near to red and strawberries, blueberries, and dragon fruits which is
far from red.
Now, let’s help red in determining what demonstrative pronoun will be used
in pointing out the fruits she wants inside her basket.

As the students understood, post another set of sentences on the board. This time,
they are tasked to connect the two sentences using which, that or who.

VII. ABSTRACTION
Introduce to them formally what a relative pronoun is.
Relative pronoun is a word that connects two statements and refers to a
noun/pronoun within the sentence. It is used to a clause or phrase to a noun or
pronoun.
For the example, the teacher will go back to the previous sentences she had in the activity.
She will explain how the relative pronoun was used in the sentences.
Then, discuss the different classifications under relative pronouns.

VIII. ANALYSIS
Let the students answer an activity presented in the PowerPoint.
Let them fill in the blanks with the correct relative pronoun in the dialogue of the comic
strips. Ask them to answer this in a ½ crosswise.
IX. APPLICATION

E. Engagement
The teacher asks them if they are familiar with the game PANTS.
Then the teacher will introduce to them the game Who, Where and What. This
game is a substitute to the mentioned game earlier.
The teacher gives a given letter, then she says if it is who (name), where
(place) and what (animal). Then she draws out of the papers rolled with the
students’ name. The game continues for 3-5 minutes.
F. Exploration
The teacher asks to when do we use the terms who, where and what.
The students may answer that it is commonly used in asking questions. They
may give examples in using them according to their own knowledge.
G. Explanation
The teacher will introduce interrogative pronouns which include the wh-
questions mentioned.
An interrogative pronoun is a pronoun which is used to make asking questions

easy. There are 5 interrogative pronouns that are used to ask specific
questions.
The 5 interrogative pronouns are what, which, who, whom, and whose.
 What- used to ask question about people or objects.
Example:
- What do you want for a gift?
- What is the name of your pet?
 Which- used to ask question about people or objects.
Example:
- Which dress do you prefer, the stripes or the checkered one?
- Which seat do you like?
- Which of those boys is your crush?
 Who- Used to ask question about people.
- Who is that lady in black?
- Who was driving the car lately?
- Who went to Anna’s party?
 Whom- This interrogative pronoun is rarely seen these days, but it also
refers to asking questions about a person.
Examples:
- To whom did you lend your eraser?
- Whom do you live with?
 Whose- Used to ask questions about people or object, always related to
possession.
Examples:
- Whose pen is this?
- Whose house is the blue one?
In some cases interrogative pronoun ends with –ever.
Like:
- Whatever
- Whichever
- Whoever
- Whatsoever
- Whomsoever
Sentences containing interrogative pronouns are always in question form,
therefore they end in question marks (?).
H. Elaboration
Choose a partner. For 5 minutes, create 5 questions to be asked to your partner
using interrogative pronouns in relation to his/her personality or hobbies. List
down these questions on a one whole piece of pad paper.
In the next 5 minutes, exchange your paper to your pair and answer these
questions.
I. Evaluation
Create your own comic strip!
Instruction: Based on the topic given, draw your own comic strips with a
message balloons. Inside the message, write your own conversation with the
use of interrogative pronouns.
(Topic: A child eating ice cream, a grumpy mother and a happy ice cream seller:
Each of them has a message balloon)

Teacher’s Activity
a. Engagement
The teacher will group the class to 5 for a game. Each group will be provided set
of indefinite pronouns written in strips of paper. Their answers are limited only to
“everybody, somebody, nobody, none, everyone, everything, something, several
times, sometimes and every time”
This energizer aimed to see how much do they know about their class. Their
classmates are the ones to decide whether their answers are correct or not.
Questions:
1. Who of you here has tried to cut class?
2. How often see each other when summer comes?
3. When there’s a gathering, who of you are always present?

4. Is there someone who is not in a relationship in this class?
5. Do you think how many of your classmates are thinking of dropping out?
The teacher gives them appreciation for the number of correct answers they got.
b. Exploration
Show to students the sets of answers they gave in the game earlier. Let everyone read
it.
Ask if someone knows what they are called.
Ask them why they are called indefinite pronouns.
c. Explanation
Introduce to them formally what an Indefinite Pronoun is.
Indefinite pronouns are words used to refer to people, animals or things that are not
specified to what exactly they are.
Indefinite pronouns are formed with a quantifier or distributive such as any, some,
every and no.
Discuss the different classifications under indefinite pronouns.
Comic strip will be used to show the number of count of the pronouns used.

that follows them.
Note: Although *any is used to denote a negative sentence it can also be used in writing
affirmative sentences or questions.
When an Indefinite pronoun is used as the subject, the verb must agree with it in
number.
Example:
Everyone loves to see the new movie of the actor Night Cervantes and Mikaela Ramos.

Board work:
Ask for volunteers to write factual statements about their families and friends for each
indefinite pronoun. Then check their sentences afterwards if pronouns are used
correctly.
Get them ready for a short quiz.

They will play a game called “Tell me”. They will pass a box with topics inside
of it. The students will sing a song and when the song stops, the last one to
touch the box will pick a topic that he/she has to answer.

The game will go on for 5-10 minutes.

Write a short essay (3-5 sentences only) dedicated to your friend, family or
pet using at least 5 Personal Pronouns in three different cases.

Strip It: Comics Pronouns Teachers Tool Kit- lesson plan

  • 1. West Visayas State University COLLEGE OF EDUCATION Department of Professional Education La Paz, Iloilo City, Philippines LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 10- ENGLISH I. Objectives: At the end of the 60-minute period, the Grade 10 students must have: a. Identified the function and use of the demonstrative pronoun using example sentences posted on the board; b. Applied the function of the demonstrative pronoun using comic strips; c. Selected the best possible demonstrative pronoun for the given sentences; d. Supplied the correct demonstrative pronoun that is missing in thedialogues of the comic strips. II. Subject Matter a. Topic: “Demonstrative Pronoun” b. References: Celebrating Multiculturalism Through World Literature, English Learner’s Manual page 307. c. Value Focus: Responding to natural phenomena d. Language Focus: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening III. Materials: Activity Cartolina strips Abstraction Cartolina paper and marker Analysis Powerpoint Presentation that contains comic strips Application Marker and cartolina/ White board Assessment Activity sheet that contains comic strips IV. Procedure: Teacher’s Activity A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES The teacher will ask the students to stand and request someone to lead the prayer. After that, she will check the attendance of the students. B. ACTIVITY The teacher will post 3 sentences on the board. She will ask the students the function of the underlined word in each sentence. 1. That gives me a headache. 2. These are hilarious cartoons. 3. Those were my weird experiences during the camp. Start discussing that the examples are the ways how they can use a demonstrative pronoun.

ABSTRACTION Introduce to them formally what a demonstrative pronoun is. Demonstrative pronoun points out a noun. (that, these and those. Example: That is a good idea. Those are my favorite flowers. For more examples, the teacher will go back to the previous sentences she had in the activity. D. ANALYSIS Let the students answer an activity presented in the PowerPoint. Let them fill in the blanks with the correct demonstrative pronoun in the dialogues of the comic strips. Ask them to answer this in a ½ crosswise. E. APPLICATION Board work: Choose the appropriate demonstrative pronoun for the sentence. 1. (That, Those) apples are very tasty. 2. (These, This) school gave me so many responsibilities. 3. During (that, those) time, I was busy checking the papers. 4. (These, This) are the things we need to do before the class ends. 5. Despite the heavy storm, (this, that) tree along the road was still strong. F. Assessment Give an activity sheet that contains comic strips. The students are task to supply the correct demonstrative pronoun that functions appropriately in the sentences. G. Assignment Ask the students to make a short story by using a comic strip. They should use at least 5 demonstrative pronouns in the dialogues. Ask them to draw this in a short bond paper.

I finally found my bag. I lost it during the program. VII. ABSTRACTION Introduce to them formally what a relative pronoun is. Relative pronoun is a word that connects two statements and refers to a noun/pronoun within the sentence. It is used to a clause or phrase to a noun or pronoun. For the example, the teacher will go back to the previous sentences she had in the activity. She will explain how the relative pronoun was used in the sentences. Then, discuss the different classifications under relative pronouns. Relative pronoun Function Example Who is used for living things Zenny is the one who gifted me a red bag during my birthday. Which Is used for animal & things. The horse which Jane was riding is very cute. That is used for people, animal and things in defining relative clause He always talks about the things that impress other people. Whom is used for the people in non- defining relative clauses She is the doctor whom I’m talking about. Whose is used in possession for people Have you seen the child whose mother won the lotto prize? Where Is used for places This is the house where I spent my childhood. Let the students share their own example sentences using each relative pronoun. VIII. ANALYSIS Let the students answer an activity presented in the PowerPoint. Let them fill in the blanks with the correct relative pronoun in the dialogue of the comic strips. Ask them to answer this in a ½ crosswise. IX. APPLICATION Board work: Join the following pair of sentences with suitable relative pronouns: who, which, that.

Subject Matter A. Topic: Interrogative Pronoun B. References: Celebrating Multiculturalism Through World Literature, English Learner’s Manual page 307. III. Materials: Engagement “Who, where, what” game- rolled out name of students. Exploration Board work Explanation PPT presentation Elaboration Paper and Pencil Evaluation Activity Sheet IV. Procedure: Teacher’s Activity E. Engagement The teacher asks them if they are familiar with the game PANTS. Then the teacher will introduce to them the game Who, Where and What. This game is a substitute to the mentioned game earlier. The teacher gives a given letter, then she says if it is who (name), where (place) and what (animal). Then she draws out of the papers rolled with the students’ name. The game continues for 3-5 minutes. F. Exploration The teacher asks to when do we use the terms who, where and what. The students may answer that it is commonly used in asking questions. They may give examples in using them according to their own knowledge. G. Explanation The teacher will introduce interrogative pronouns which include the wh- questions mentioned. An interrogative pronoun is a pronoun which is used to make asking questions

There are 5 interrogative pronouns that are used to ask specific questions. The 5 interrogative pronouns are what, which, who, whom, and whose.  What- used to ask question about people or objects. Example: - What do you want for a gift? - What is the name of your pet?  Which- used to ask question about people or objects. Example: - Which dress do you prefer, the stripes or the checkered one? - Which seat do you like? - Which of those boys is your crush?  Who- Used to ask question about people. - Who is that lady in black? - Who was driving the car lately? - Who went to Anna’s party?  Whom- This interrogative pronoun is rarely seen these days, but it also refers to asking questions about a person. Examples: - To whom did you lend your eraser? - Whom do you live with?  Whose- Used to ask questions about people or object, always related to possession. Examples: - Whose pen is this? - Whose house is the blue one? In some cases interrogative pronoun ends with –ever. Like: - Whatever - Whichever - Whoever - Whatsoever - Whomsoever Sentences containing interrogative pronouns are always in question form, therefore they end in question marks (?). H. Elaboration Choose a partner. For 5 minutes, create 5 questions to be asked to your partner using interrogative pronouns in relation to his/her personality or hobbies. List down these questions on a one whole piece of pad paper. In the next 5 minutes, exchange your paper to your pair and answer these questions. I. Evaluation Create your own comic strip! Instruction: Based on the topic given, draw your own comic strips with a message balloons. Inside the message, write your own conversation with the use of interrogative pronouns. (Topic: A child eating ice cream, a grumpy mother and a happy ice cream seller: Each of them has a message balloon)

Procedure: Teacher’s Activity a. Engagement The teacher will group the class to 5 for a game. Each group will be provided set of indefinite pronouns written in strips of paper. Their answers are limited only to “everybody, somebody, nobody, none, everyone, everything, something, several times, sometimes and every time” This energizer aimed to see how much do they know about their class. Their classmates are the ones to decide whether their answers are correct or not. Questions: 1. Who of you here has tried to cut class? 2. How often see each other when summer comes? 3. When there’s a gathering, who of you are always present?

Exploration Show to students the sets of answers they gave in the game earlier. Let everyone read it. Ask if someone knows what they are called. Ask them why they are called indefinite pronouns. c. Explanation Introduce to them formally what an Indefinite Pronoun is. Indefinite pronouns are words used to refer to people, animals or things that are not specified to what exactly they are. Indefinite pronouns are formed with a quantifier or distributive such as any, some, every and no. Discuss the different classifications under indefinite pronouns. Comic strip will be used to show the number of count of the pronouns used. Note: Although *any is used to denote a negative sentence it can also be used in writing affirmative sentences or questions. When an Indefinite pronoun is used as the subject, the verb must agree with it in number. Example: Everyone loves to see the new movie of the actor Night Cervantes and Mikaela Ramos.

VII. Explanation Discuss the Pronoun Cases. RULE: Use a subjective case pronoun When the pronoun functions as the sentence’s: Note: Example sentences may or may not be presented in a comic strip. 1.
