Femke Ongenae from Ghent University is researching how to use personalized robotics to support the care of people with severe dementia. The proposed system uses sensors in the environment and on residents to detect behavioral disturbances or unsafe situations. It then uses this data along with resident profiles, floor plans, staff schedules and more to assign tasks to robots through services like path planning, task selection and execution. The goal is to help care for those with severe dementia through personalized assistive robots.
