4. Meet the new animal families
• The killer whale family
• The Penguin family
• The zebra family
• Humpback whale family
• Puma family
• The dolphin family
• The koala family

5. Killer whale Family
• After the gestation period which is in 15 or in 18 months. A killer
whale will only have just one calf. The mating season for a killer
whale is at any time of the year but it normally happens in the
winter. The size for a baby killer whale is 180 kgs (400lbs) and the
length of these animals is 2.4m (8ft). The calf will be feed on its
mothers milk in about 2 years and they will start to adult food when
the baby is 12 months old. They can also breed in the spring season
and they will also breed in warm waters as well and the calf is born
with its tail out first (normally all cetaceans are usually born this
way) and they will be born near the surface so that the baby can
breathe. They usually give birth in the months of October and in
March. The first time that the baby is out than it will only take 10
seconds for them to take its very first breathe and it is often helped
by the mother by her using the flippers. The baby will stay with its
++ mother for only about a year and they will also stay with their
mother even longer than a year as well.
Mating season: throughout the whole year
Number of babies: only one calf
Gestation period: 15 to 18 months
Maturity: Females is 6 to 10 years and the males are 12 to 16 years.

6. Penguin family
• The best time for a mating season for the emperor penguin is in the winter season and they
will have to travel n where they have their babies and they will have to travel about 90 km
(56 miles) on land. In the months of May or June that will be the time when the female is
ready to have her egg and these penguins only have one egg and that means that they only
have one chick. The newborn chick will weight about 450g (1 lb) and than she will start to
so that she can look for food and to also build her nutritional reserves. and now it is the
males turn to watch the baby chick. The male will carry the egg right between his feet and
then it will be protected in the males pouch which is covered with feathery skin. The male
will incubates it for about 65 days and when the male is doing this then he will not be able
to eat he will survive on the all the fat that is male has build up. Than the male will start to
huddle together so that they can keep the egg warm so that they can wait for the egg to
hatch and when the egg does hatch then it will be spring and then the female comes back
from the sea. If the baby hatches before the female comes back then the female has got
food with her. To feed the baby with the food that the mother has found the male will feed
the baby by producing milk substance that is from the gland that is located in the digestive
system that is have penguin parents feed their baby. When the female comes back then the
male will go out into the ocean so that he can get food for himself then when he returns
then he will help to take care of the baby. When the chick is 2 months old than the it will
join another baby penguins in a crèche but their parents will still be able to feed them.
After the chick is about 5 months old than the young chicks and their parents will start to
go back to the sea so that their parents can feed them during all summer long. The
Emperor penguin will reach multiply when they are about 5 months old.

Mating season: Most penguins breed in the spring and In the summer and It depends on the species to.
Incubation:1 month-66 days depends on the species
Number of babies the king penguin and the emperor only have one egg but all of the other species of penguin only
have two eggs.
7. Zebra family
• Zebra babies are usually born with brown and white
stripes when they are born and they will change into black
and white when they get older. The female will stay away
from the other zebras for 2 or 3 days or until the baby can
see has a voice and that it can smell. The gestation period
for a zebra is 370 days, The zebra will only give birth to
only just one foal. In about an hour that will be the time
when the foal will start to stand and suckle in about a few
weeks than it will start to graze. The baby will continue to
drink its mothers milk when the foal is about 8 or in 13
months old. They will reach maturity when they are about
3 years old. The young males will not be ready to protect
their herd until they are about 6 years old.
Mating season: all year long it depends on the species
Gestation period: 12 to 13 months
Number of babies: only one baby http://youtu.be/YD3ZX8PdlUo

8. Humpback whale family
• The mating season for a humpback whale is during the winter months that is in tropical waters.
The gestation period for an humpback whale is 11.5 months. A female humpback whale will only
give to only one calf. The size of the humpback is 4 – 5 m (13 – 16 ft) that is the length of these
animals when they just been born. The weight of the baby is about 1,350 kgs (2,976 lbs). The first
food that the baby will eat will be its mothers nutrient rich milk. They will stop drinking its
mothers milk until the calf is about 5 months old. The humpback will reach maturity when they
are 4 or 5 years old and they have birthing interval in about 2 years. The mating season of the
humpback whale will also be in the early spring as well. The female will give birth near the
surface in the warm tropical waters. The gestation period for a humpback whale is 11 to 12
months. A calf will be born with its tail out first before its head ( this is normally have all
cetaceans give birth) and the calf will come out near the surface in the warm shallow waters, The
calf will have to swim very fast so that it can take a 10 second for it to make is first breath. They
can help to get to the surface by the help from their mother and she can help her baby by using
her flippers. In about 30 minutes the baby will have the ability to swim. The size of an newborn
calf is about 14 feet long (4.3 m) and they can weight about 2.5 tons (2.3 tonnes). Humpbacks do
not have twins. The baby will continue to drink from its mother milk in about 11 months. The
baby will stay with its mother for a whole year or even longer than that . A baby humpback whale
will drink up about 100 pounds of milk in every day. These whales will start to reach puberty
when they are 4 or 6 years old and they will reach maturity in about 15 years. A female will give
birth to a calf in every 1 or in 3 years.
Time mother is pregnant: 330-365 days
Number of babies: 1 or 2 ( but they most
often just have one calf)
First food: their mothers milk

9. Puma family
• A female puma will normally have just have two or four kittens and that is called a litter for
a puma. The mother raises her kittens on her own. The mother will feed her babies milk
until for two months and then after that is done than the kittens will start to travel so that
the mother will tech them on how to hunt. The kittens will stay with their mother for about
1 1/2 – 2 years. When the males are old each to take care of themselves than the males will
start to enter into another males territory. Males have been known to kill kittens the
reason why they do this is because the male wants to mate with the kittens mother. The
puma will mate at any time in the year. When the female is ready to have baby than the
she will make a distinctive call so that she will let the a male know that she is ready to have
a baby. After the couple is done mating than the two will start to go on their separate ways
and the male will not help to take care of the cubs, The gestation period for a puma is 84 to
106 days. The number of cubs that these cats will have is about one or three that is how
many babies that a puma mother can have. The cubs will be born in a special place that is
called a den this where the mother will protected her babies. The moment that they are
born they will be blind and their coats or a bit wooly and they also have dark spotted
markings that is located on their body and on their tail there will be dark rings on them.
These markings will start to go away in about 6 months. These markings will be completely
gone when the young cub is about 1 year old. The cubs will leave their mother when they
are about 20 or 24 months or when they have found a territory of their own.

Mating season: they will usually mate in
December to all the way to March but it
can also happen at any time of the year to
Gestation period: 82-96 days
Number of babies: 2 or 4 kittens
10. Dolphin family
• The moment that the dolphins are born they will grow at less about 35 to 50 inches long and they
can weight about 30 to 50 pounds that is how tall a baby dolphin is. The mother is known to be
very protective when it comes to her babies and she can also be devoted as well. That is because
baby dolphins is an easy target for predators like sharks or they can easily get lost or they can
swim away. A mother dolphins most always keep an eye out for the young dolphins so that
sharks do not attack them or they can get lost. But if the baby does stray a lot then the mother
will trap her baby that is right between her flippers or she will hold the baby underwater in only
in for a few seconds. The other females in the pod will serve the family as aunties and their job is
to help to take care of the baby dolphin or help the babies to stay out of trouble. These dolphins
will from a group that is called a playpen so that the baby dolphins can swim around in it. This
will also allow the babies to play together in a very safe place without getting themselves hurt in
anyway. When the female is about to give birth than the female will stay away from the pod she
will normally stay close to the surface of the ocean. A mother calf will only give birth to only one
calf. Dolphins do not usually have twins. The moment that the calf is born then the mother will
take the baby up to the surface very fast so that the baby can have its first breath. The baby will
continue to drink its mothers milk in 11 months or in 2 years. After the baby is done with the
nursing process but the baby will stay with its mother until the baby is 3 or 6 years old. Then the
baby dolphin will be old enough to take care of it self.
http://youtu.be/Nsk4u0IMmTE
Mating season: The whole year or
in the spring or in the fall
Gestation Period: 9-17 months it
really depends on the species.
Number of babies: Only one calf
11. Koala family
• Every single marsupial in the world and that also means koalas all
began life very differently than other mammals do. The way that
koalas give birth is one of the reasons why marsupials are a lot
different than any other mammals in the world. A very baby
koala will start their life's as an unfinished offspring. The babies
will only be inside of their mother in only about 30 days the
moment that they are born the babies will be a blind and deaf
baby the moment that they come out of their mothers stomach. A
baby koala will only be an three quarter of an inch long that is
how long a baby koala is and it will only make five minute climb
into its mothers pouch, When the baby finally reaches the inside
of the pouch then the baby will find its self in a milk source. The
baby koala will sepnd six months inside of the pouch. Baby koalas
grow and change just like other mammals do right before they are
born

12. The Cat family
• A female cat will not be ready to have babies until she is about 6 or 9
months old. They will also will be ready to be pregnant when they are 4
months old to. The male cats will mature a few months later than the
female cats will. Both male and female will all be ready to mate babies by
the time that they reach their birthday/ A female cat will be pregnant at
any time of the year. The mating process will start With the females
oestrus cycle this will only last to four or seven days. If the mother is not
ready to mate then it will take even longer for the cycle to work. A female
cat will be in labor in about five times in a year and a cat can have about
three kittens in a litter in a year. There are about two signs that show that
cats are pregnant. After the male and the female are done mating which
will take about three weeks than after those weeks are over than the
nipples of the female will start to become a lot more pink. When a female
is pregnant it is more quiet and it will start to gain weight.
