A Publicist’s Advice to Authors:
    Don’t Hire a Publicist
Until you are ready!
How do you know if you
     are ready?
Here’s a Checklist...
1. Web Site

      Make sure your web site is
       current and functional.

   No point driving people to your
       site, if the content is old
  and there is no clear call-to-action.
2. Mailing List

    Every author needs a way to
       contact their readers.

   Make sure there is an email sign
  up on your site and that you have
   a way to send out a newsletter.
3. Facebook Fan Page

  You need a fan page on Facebook.

  If you only have a personal page,
  please create a fan page and start
  building a community with your
               readers.
4. Twitter

   Please set up a Twitter handle so
    you can join the conversation.

   It’s not fair to ask others to talk
  about your book, when you don’t
       make the effort yourself.
5. Blog

   I know you’d rather be writing
   your book and I feel your pain.

  But there is no better way to build
    traffic or attract readers than
               blogging.
So before you hire
    a publicist
Get your digital house
      in order.
As book publishing professionals, we’re living
through confusing and complex times. If you
