Learning is a process by which individuals acquire knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to meet the demands of life. It is influenced by individual, task, and method variables. Individual variables that affect learning include maturation, age, sex, previous experience, capacity, family background, and mental fatigue. Task variables include the length, meaningfulness, difficulty level, and organization of material. Method variables that impact learning are spaced vs. massed learning, whole vs. part learning, practice and recitation, and extent of learning.

2. A process by which
an individual
acquires
knowledge,

that are necessary
to meet the
demands of life
What do you mean
by learning??
3. General characteristics of learning
It is a process as well as product
It continues through out life
Development of individuals
Process of adjustment
Influence all aspects of life
13. TASK VARIABLE
Length of the
learning material.
Meaningfulness
Difficulty level of
the task.
Organization
14. Length of the
learning material
The time taken to learn will depend
on the length of the learner.
Length of the material should be
within the span of learners.
15. Difficulty level of
the task
Difficult material decreases
the rate of learning and
chance of forgetting
becomes greater.
16. Meaningfulness of
material
The material which are meaningful
seems to be learned easily than
the other.
Those which are understood can
be associated with previous
experience and can be easily
recalled.
17. Organization
A well organized learning
materials helps an individual to
learn more effectively than
poorly organized material.
19. Spaced vs.
Massed learning
Spaced learning
implies learning in
short durations
scattered and spread
over a time.
Massed learning
implies learning a
material wholly in a
long duration time.
20. Whole vs. Part
learning
Whole learning
means learning a
material as a whole,
by repeated
attempts.
Part method implies
learning a material
part by part.
22. Extent of
learning
To ensure better
retention and recall,
practice must be
continued beyond the
point which he is able to
reproduce it without any
mistake.
Over learning helps in
better retention.
