  3. 3. Sentence • A group of words which makes complete sense, is called sentence. • OR • A sentence is a group of words that express a complete thought. For Example: 1. Tom is going to play. 2. She is sad.
  4. 4. Parts of a sentence THERE ARE TWO BASIC PARTS OF A SENTENCE. 1. SUBJECT 2. PREDICATE
  5. 5. Subject: A subject is the person or thing about which something is being stated. Example: 1. Tom is going to school. 2. John went home. 3. She is beautiful.
  6. 6. Predicate: The predicate is the part of a sentence that tells something about the subject. The predicate always includes a verb. Example: 1. Spain is in Europe. 2. Goat and cows can't fly. 3. He is a good boy.
  7. 7. Types of sentences THERE ARE FOUR TYPES OF SENTENCES. 1. DECLARATIVE SENTENCE 2. EXCLAMATORY SENTENCE 3. INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE 4. IMPERATIVE SENTENCE
  8. 8. Declarative sentence: A declarative sentence is a sentence that makes a statement. Example: 1. Jan is a student. 2. He is a social worker. 3. Tom is an outstanding student.
  9. 9. Exclamatory sentence: An exclamatory sentence is a sentence that is said with strong feeling or emotions. (always ends with an exclamation mark) Example: 1. Hurrah! We won the World Cup. 2. Oh! I have lost my pen. 3. Wow! It's a beautiful day.
  10. 10. Interrogative sentence: An interrogative sentence is a sentence that ask a question and always end with a question mark. Example: 1. What is your name? 2. Who is he? 3. What are you doing?
  11. 11. Imperative sentence: Imperative sentences expresses command, advice or request. Example: 1. Go ahead. (Command) 2. Speak the truth. (Advice) 3. Please give me your book. (Request)
