Past perfecttense.
1. The past perfect refers to an event that was completed at some point in the
past before something else happened. It is formed by combining the auxiliary
verb had with the past participle of the main verb.
2. Use the past perfect tense to show an action that was completed prior to
another action that took place in the past.
Examples:
1. He had learned Spanish before he went to Spain.
2. President zia ul haq had attended the meeting before his assassination in
1970.
3. They have had lunch when I arrived.
4. She passed the exam because she had worked very hard.
Structures.
1. Positive structure.
Subject+ Had+ Main verb(3rdform)+object+.
Example.
1. He had passed the CSS exam before his marriage.
2. Negative structure.
Subject+Had+not+ Main verb(3rd form)+Object+.
Example.
1. She had not visited to her mother home before she
got ill.
3.Interrogative structure.
Had+Subject+Main verb(3rd form)+Object+?
Example.
2. Had she visited her school before her teachers called?
4.Negative interrogative /Combine structure.
Had+subject+not+Main verb (3rd form)+object+?
Example.
1. Had she not attended the meeting because I was
absent?
5. Question word structure.
